Temple land encroached in Kumarapalayam due to negligence by HR&CE department

A temple dedicated to Goddess Mariamman is located on Arundathiar Street in Aruvankadu, Kumarapalayam, Namakkal District. Devotees from the area regularly visit this temple on a daily basis. The temple owns a small amount of land in the area.

Locals have complained that the temple land is being encroached by an individual. He has allegedly occupied 120 feet of temple land and even extended the roof of his house into the temple land. The people of the area have demanded that he immediately remove the encroaching structure. Refusing to accept this, he had continued to engage in aggression. The public has demanded that the temple land in Kumarapalayam be handed over to the temple administration immediately.

The people of the area lodged a complaint with the police. The two parties held negotiations after police investigation in this regard. The police have recommended the RDO to investigate as no decision has been reached.

It is a well-known fact that the Government of Tamil Nadu has been reclaiming such occupied temple lands for the last 10 years. Similarly, it is the temple activists have urged the HR&CE to examine all the documents related to the temple lands and collect all the details so that the encroached lands belonging to the temple are recovered.
