Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who served as the Chief Minister during the previous term will now be donning the role of Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The AIADMK had convened a meeting of its newly elected MLAs at the party headquarters in Chennai. At the meeting, it was unanimously decided that Edappadi K. Palaniswami would be the leader of opposition.
The AIADMK has emerged as the principal opposition party in the 16th Assembly with 66 MLAs. The PMK and the BJP with 5 and 4 seats will also be part of the opposition.
Palaniswami won from his constituency Edappadi in Salem district with a margin of 93802 votes. This is the fifth time he has been elected MLA from this constituency.
