Karunanidhi Centenary Day public meeting was held on 17 June 2023 at Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district.
DMK State Highways Minister AV Velu participated in the programme and addressed the meeting.
Speaking about the Dravidian Model, EV Velu said “The DMK is running a Dravidian model government. If you ask a DMK man if he ministership or social justice is important, they would choose the latter. Tamil Nadu is one of the fastest-growing states in India. No one from here goes to Bihar in search of work. On the contrary, many people from Bihar come here for work. Governor (RN Ravi) has also come here from Bihar.”
In March 2023, there was a furore over the safety of north Indian migrant labourers in Tamil Nadu. Misreporting by a few Hindi media outlets and subsequent amplification of these reports by BJP Bihar had unleashed a political slugfest with migrant workers in Tamil Nadu facing the brunt.
However, BJP Tamil Nadu President highlighted how the political rhetoric of the DMK has always been about inciting anti-Hindi and anti-north Indian sentiments.
