Mohanlal’s Cameo Cut Short In ‘Jailer 2’: Stylist Blasts Makers, Says He Won’t Return For Sequels

Fashion designer Jishad Shamsudeen, who styles Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, has criticised the makers of Jailer 2 after three looks created for the actor’s cameo were reportedly removed from the film’s final theatrical cut. He has also vowed not to work on any future instalments of the franchise, as reported in Deccan Chronicle.

In a statement shared on Instagram following the film’s release on October 15, Shamsudeen expressed disappointment over the removal of Mohanlal’s scenes, including a brief sequence that had appeared in the promotional trailer.

“Based on what was shot, I was completely confident in our work—even when reduced to a 2-second glimpse in the trailer. But with the film’s release, three of Mohanlal Sir’s distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out,” he wrote.

Criticising the decision, Shamsudeen said, “From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal Sir is simply unnecessary.”

He further declared that he would not be associated with any future sequel if the actor’s screen presence continued to be reduced in this manner.

“Seeing our superstar reduced like this, if there is a Sequel, I will not be a part of it. I am truly sorry to everyone who trusted me,” he said.

Shamsudeen also asserted that his position was not motivated by commercial considerations or the pursuit of stardom.

“I don’t stand for favors, profits, crore clubs, or stardom. I stand solely for the fans, lovers of the craft, and Mohanlal Sir,” he added.

Mohanlal had appeared in the first instalment of Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, released in 2023, in a cameo as Mathew, an underworld figure. His appearance, complemented by the character’s distinctive retro styling designed by Shamsudeen, became one of the film’s memorable highlights.

The sequel had generated anticipation among fans who expected a more prominent appearance by Mohanlal. However, the reported removal of the three looks and the trimming of the trailer sequence have disappointed some viewers, prompting reactions on social media.

Neither director Nelson Dilipkumar nor production house Sun Pictures had issued an official statement addressing Shamsudeen’s allegations or the reported editing decisions at the time of publication.
