A 56-year-old man, identified as Mohamed Yusuf, a resident of the Aadhi Nagar area near Tambaram, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. The accused operates a biryani shop and a related storage facility (godown) used for biryani preparation in the locality, as reported in Malai Murasu.
According to police sources, the victim is the daughter of a worker employed at the facility. The girl would occasionally accompany her father to the premises during school holidays.
On the day of the incident, the girl was at the facility with her father. When the father stepped out briefly, stating he was visiting a nearby hospital, the accused allegedly took the opportunity to act inappropriately toward the child.
Police reports indicate that the father returned unexpectedly during this time and found his daughter in distress. The girl then tearfully disclosed to her father that she had been subjected to continuous sexual harassment by Mohamed Yusuf over the past four months. She further alleged that the accused had threatened to kill her if she revealed the abuse to anyone, particularly her father.
Following this revelation, the father immediately lodged a formal complaint at the Chitlapakkam All-Women Police Station. Based on the complaint, police arrested Mohamed Yusuf and registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was subsequently produced before a court, and authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway.
