In an apparent effort to obstruct the Murugan Devotees Conference scheduled for 22 June 2025 in Madurai, organized by the Hindu Munnani, the ruling DMK government, unable to halt the event through legal means, is now allegedly using state machinery to interfere with its promotion. Shockingly, devotees and volunteers distributing invitation pamphlets to fellow worshippers at temples have been denied permission to do so.
What has further outraged the Hindu community is that officials from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) Department, whose duty is to protect and promote Hindu culture, reportedly stopped volunteers and questioned them with, “Are you engaging in religious propaganda?” this, within Hindu temples themselves.
A viral video has surfaced showing a female devotee and volunteer being stopped by HRCE officials while distributing invitations. The situation escalated to the point where the police were called, sparking widespread outrage.
In the video, the woman slammed the DMK government’s actions, stating, “To demonstrate Hindu communities unity, a Murugan Devotees Conference is scheduled to take place in Madurai on 22nd June. We came here to this temple to give an invitation to the Hindu people here for that conference. Having a gang of thugs in the name of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in this temple they are asking in a Hindu temple, which is my temple that, ‘are you doing this religious propaganda?’ Is the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department running (the temples) in Tamil Nadu or temples becoming the den of thugs? I don’t have a clear explanation for this. We came to give an invitation to the Hindu people, saying that the Murugan Devotees Conference is happening on 22nd June, asking them to come. If a BJP district leader like me doesn’t have safety here, what safety do ordinary people have? How can women walk safely here wearing Thiruneer or Kungumam? Our Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, in a school for orphaned girls, in that shelter, a girl was sexually assaulted, and her leg was broken. That girl has no security. No women in Tamil Nadu have security. People at home are being killed, there are murders, robberies, rapes. In this period where such an anarchic government is in power, we are not allowed and do not have the authority to invite our own people in our Hindu temple to the Madurai Murugan Devotees conference on the 22nd. This is very much an act of hooliganism, destroying Hindu culture beautifully in the name of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Does this government think that Hindus should not exist? We, the Hindu people, are going to give a fitting reply to this government in this Murugan Devotees conference. Hindus everywhere have begun to realize that they are Hindus with awakening and bravery. We will see how they (the government) come to ask for votes, how they come to our streets. I request all Hindu people not to allow this Dravidian government inside (their areas). All Hindu associations must prove our unity at the Murugan devotees conference.”
