A clash broke out in Dindigul district after officials, assisted by local residents, retrieved an alleged encroachment on temple land in Sirunayakkanpatti village pursuant to a court order.
According to Hindu Munnani, the land had been under the occupation of a Christian individual and was reclaimed with the assistance of government authorities.
The organisation alleged that following the land retrieval, a group of individuals associated with the Christian Makkal Munnani allegedly attempted to attack members of the Scheduled Caste Hindu community. Hindu Munnani claimed that the accused, including individuals identified as Vincent, who was described as a sand mafia operator, and Mari Arokiyam, along with several others, attempted to pour petrol on and set fire to around 15 Dalit Hindus.
The organisation further alleged that the incident took place in the presence of Revenue Department officials and police personnel.
Several injured persons were admitted to the Dindigul Government Hospital for treatment.
Hindu Munnani district functionaries later visited the injured victims at the hospital, expressed their support, and submitted a demand to the police seeking the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the attack.
