“Delivering on legitimate aspirations of Tamil community is in the best interests of Sri Lanka”, MEA responds to Vaiko’s question

The Parliament’s Winter session is currently happening and updates keep coming in from time to time. Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP Vaiyapuri Gopalsamy, commonly known Vaiko, had some questions regarding Human Right’s Violation against Tamils in Sri Lanka. He had addressed a set of questions to the Ministry of External Affairs, which has been answered yesterday.

He had asked a total of 5 questions such as, “Whether government has taken due notice of gross human rights violation against Tamils in Sri Lanka,” “Whether government is considering changing its foreign policy towards Sri Lanka in view of the issue of Human rights abuse and their facing trial in the Human Rights Council,” etc.

Answering all questions at one go, the Ministry of External Affairs mentioned all that they and the Central Government on the whole have been doing to ensure the well being of the Tamils in Sri Lanka. “The Government of India has consistently called upon Sri Lanka during bilateral discussions at all levels to fulfill its commitments on addressing the issues related to protecting the interests on Tamils in Sri Lanka,” the MEA had answered to Vaiko’s questions.

The answer given was concluded with, “India believes that delivering on the legitimate aspirations of the Tamil community is in the best interests of Sri Lanka.” Read the full statement here:
