Border issue with China will be solved bilaterally— Defense Minister Rajnath Singh says that Trump needn’t arbitrate

For the past two days, an undated video of Indian troops challenging the Chinese in Ladakh has made its rounds in social media. Meanwhile, both countries have deployed more troops in the borders. Experts claim that this isn’t a sign of an impending war; instead, both countries are “testing each other’s boundaries”.

Regardless, the White House noticed this escalation, for Trump offered to mediate the standoff between India and China.

These are successions to the Indian-Chinese clash on May 5 at Ladakh in which several soldiers were injured as well as a similar incident near the Naku La Pass in North Sikkim on May 9.

The root of the clash is the much-debated LAC between India and China.

In light of these, the Defense Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, recently affirmed that such an intervention is unnecessary as both countries are willing to resolve this bilaterally.

“As of now, dialogue is on with China both at the military and diplomatic level,” Singh told Aaj Tak in an interview. “India is also trying that tensions should not rise in any situation. India has been following a clear policy of maintaining good relationship with neighbouring countries and it is not a new approach. We have been following it for long.”

Rajnath Singh made it clear that India wants to have good relations with its neighbour but can assert itself if required, thanks to a capable leadership.
