TN Govt School Textbooks Features Glorification Of Ravana, Lord Rama A Villain?

xr:d:DAF4npdv1Dg:1498,j:6932589968758672195,t:24040816

The paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. – Karl Popper.

Poisonous Creepers In School Curriculum

When one looks into the contents of the textbooks of the schools in Tamil Nadu, one will be shocked, to say the least. Here are two examples from the ninth standard Tamil book:

Lesson titled Ravana Kaviyam. Yes, you read it right. Still, if you have any doubt, the footnote at the end describes it distinctly that it is an antithesis of the original Ramayanam. It is a panegyric on Ravana, as the hero. In that book, all the nefarious characters in the original Valmiki Ramayana are portrayed as noble models while Rama and his companions are depicted as scurrilous specimens.

A small citation in the course of the lesson is by no less a person than the former Chief Minister C N Annadurai asserting that this work, Ravana Kaviyam is a necessity of the current age, a result of research, a spark of revolt, a glorious literature revealing the truth! The author is a follower of EVR, the Dravidian icon. This C N Annadurai had himself written a few controversial books on Kamba Ramayanam, viz., ‘Kamba Rasam’, ‘Thee Paravattum’. Their filthy contents, bordering on obscenity will be extremely revolting and repulsive to any ordinary reader.

People have the freedom to write anything in a free society as long as it does not hurt others. If one chooses to even cross that Lakshman Rekha, others can either care to counter it with their own point of view or better still, just ignore it. For instance, a few years ago, a depraved director took a despicable film distorting the characters from Ramayana and it flopped at the box office since the audience did not relish it. But, can portions from a conspicuously controversial book be included in a school textbook? Worshipping Sri Rama is not only confined to Hindus or India. He is a venerated figure all over the world, transcending borders, religions, cults, etc. He is the human form of Dharma itself and this certificate is given not by any devotee of Sri Rama but by one from his enemy camp Mareecha:

रामो विग्रहवान् धर्मः साधुः सत्य पराक्रमः।

 राजा सर्वस्य लोकस्य देवानाम् इव वासवः॥ [Aranya Kandam 37-13]

This beautiful shloka by Mareecha gives a one shloka definition for Sri Rama: “Rama is the embodiment of Dharma. He is a noble person. bestowing welfare to every creature. His valour never goes in vain. Just as Indra is the king of the Gods, Rama is the king of this entire universe.”

A lesson in a school textbook must be studied, and neither the teacher nor the students have the liberty to contradict its contents while doing so. One may individually hold a differing opinion in private, but expressing such diametrically opposite views in the classroom or writing them during examinations is not permissible. This practice plants pernicious postulates in the impressionable minds of the young. The inclusion of such material in textbooks, and its continuation for years, is beyond comprehension. Will anybody bell the cat?

Another lesson is ‘Periyarin Sindanaikal’. Almost all the statements not only adhere to ‘Purusha Thantram,’ as elucidated below, but they also abound with numerous incorrect and disputable falsehoods masquerading as facts.

In Tharka Sastram, the equivalent of Logic, there are two terms, ‘Vasthu Thantram’ and ‘Purusha Thantram’. The former refers to statements of universal truths independent of the person who expresses it while the latter is a statement of individual opinion. Consequently, the latter is subject to deliberations, debates, and corrections. When one goes through the book, one can see that a major part of the book contains the second variety also with a blatant leaning towards the Dravidian doctrine.

Persons like Dr. U V Swaminatha Iyer, Thiru Vi Ka, just to mention a few, who contributed significantly to Tamil literature are conspicuously absent while characters like Caldwell, Max Mueller, and William Jones, evangelists who studied our language with a hidden agenda, are excessively eulogised. None of the lessons contains promotion of a nationalistic spirit; patriotism is scrupulously confined only to the mandatory first page of the national anthem and integration pledge. Why can’t it include lessons on freedom fighters like Neelakanta Brahmachari, V O C, Satyamurthy or prominent public figures like Abdul Kalam, C V Raman, etc., or heroes in Indian history like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Krishna Deva Rayar, etc.?

Incidentally, we do not object to alternative views on anything, per se. In fact, our Sanathana Dharma, wrongly christened as Hinduism is the most equitable and egalitarian in its approach. It is never dogmatic or peremptory. It encourages deep inquiry by the student. Our Upanishads are mostly in the form of questions and answers between the teacher and the taught (student). In Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the most popular work where Arjuna prostrates before Lord Krishna pleading, ‘I am confused. I consider you as my Guru. Kindly guide me.’ Lord provides him with an elaborate set of teachings extending to all aspects of life. But, it is significant to note that at the end, in the eighteenth chapter, he says,

इति ते ज्ञानमाख्यातं गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं मया |

विमृश्यैतदशेषेण यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु ||18-63||

[“Thus, I have explained to you this knowledge that is more secret than all secrets. Ponder over it deeply, and then do as you wish. The Lord gives Arjuna the freedom to contemplate all his words and then decide for himself a further course of action. Can such a statement be found in any texts of any other religion?”]

Just to illustrate the scope for arguments in our Sanathana Dharma. let us take the history of Sankaracharya. By an impeccable knowledge of all our scriptures, intellectual acumen, and consummate logical skills, he was able to convince and win over as many as 72 other religious doctrines and establish the preeminence of his postulate, Advaitam.

Sanathana Dharma is all inclusive. As for the so-called atheism that the Dravidians proudly profess from the pulpit, it is already present in Sanathana Dharma. It is called, Charvakam. As such, we are not objecting to their doctrine. But, including it with ulterior motives while simultaneously excluding the basic tenets that are being followed by the majority of society scrupulously in school textbooks smacks of sinister motives. The mischievous intention is to poison the tender minds of the young and nurture them into a negative individual, a burden to society. Moral lessons, virtuous conduct, and faith in a higher power that guides one in the righteous path are the initial motivating factors that shape the personality of the youth. The pathetic fact is that other avenues of information have already been polluted beyond repair. The TV serials with plenty of hateful and hideous content contaminate the minds of the housewives. The less said the better on the present-day films. If the schools too fail to shape the character of the children at their formative age and thus turn them into irresponsible citizens, what will happen to the health of the society?

Not only the contents of this particular Tamil book, but the entire set of books, especially history should be thoroughly rewritten. The defeatist descriptive narration in detail under the Mughals and the British thrust on us by the anti-national scripters should be drastically reduced and instead, triumphant details of Lachit Borphukhan, Rana Pratap Singh, Bappa Rawal, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Rajaraja Cholan to mention a few should be included on an all India level, promoting the nationalistic spirit and an attitude to serve the society. Even after independence, for several decades the rectification task has been inexplicably delayed. Let us start now.

Those who freely include this in the book citing freedom of opinion, have the guts and gumption to attempt such opprobrious stuff from the literature of other religions? We do not, even for a moment suggest that step. Our question is ‘Why such freedom is exercised only in the case of the Hindu religion?

When Druglord Jaffer Sadiq’s Bestie & Kollywood Director Ameer Campaigned For MMK To Establish Islamic Rule Which Is Now A DMK Ally

Once again, the social media has brought to light old videos featuring Director Ameer Sultan, where he appears to endorse the establishment of Islamic rule through political avenues in a promotional video for the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), supporting its political front Manithaneya Makkal Katchi party. This video is rapidly spreading, coinciding with Ameer being investigated by the NCB into his alleged connections with international drug lord Jaffer Sadiq’s Delhi Drug Scandal case.

Director Ameer Sultan was advocating that, “Proclaiming religion by calling for establishing an Islamic regime without politics is pure nonsense because our country is a democratic country. In this country, how can one be a ruler, how can one come and sit in the ruling class, whatever methods are there to reach that point, the right solution is to go through it.

In that sense, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, which is going to commence their political journey today will surely be an example. Some may ask whether there were no Islamic parties in India before, what Manithaneya Makkal Katchi is going to do new. Islamic parties have existed before but they have been as parties only as namesakes. They have been as parties that mortgage themselves for mere one or two seats, and there is no doubt that the situation will change and this Manithaneya Makkal Katchi will be a great example of that. I have that hope, Inshallah.”

However, the revelations didn’t stop there. It was startling to witness additional videos surfacing featuring leaders and the chief of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) advocating for Islamic rule in India based on religious texts and doctrines. They propagated narratives, drew parallels of everything to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and openly declared jihad against foreign nations. It’s noteworthy that the MMK is presently aligned with the DMK for the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The MH Jawahirullah MMK chief’s press conference condemning the Sri Lankan church bomb blast took an unexpected turn when he denounced ISIS. Instead of solely condemning the group, he accused the USA of orchestrating ISIS’s creation to marginalize Muslims and denigrate their faith. Instead of saying ISIS, a terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the incident, he claimed it was formed by the USA, was behind the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka. He likened ISIS to the RSS, stating both are extremist groups opposed to Muslims.

On another instance, MH Jawahirullah, the leader of the MMK was observed advocating for the establishment of Islamic rule in India during his lifetime. MH Jawahirullah said, “In our time, in a clear manner, according to the guidance of Qur’an and the Hadith that can provide… we who are gathered here, even the people who have not come to this conference, come together with a clear vision in all fields, be it worship, be it social life, be it our business, be it our politics, in all fields. If we follow Quran and Hadith and make a plan for others to follow. Surely, the chant of  La Ilaha Illallah Muhammad Rasulullah will be heard in the four corners of this country”

During another incident, it was deeply unsettling to witness a speaker at MMK advocating for Jihad against the USA. On stage, he vehemently proclaimed that the Muslim world would wage a holy war against the USA, expressing a desire for a death where their hands and bodies would be torn apart. He expressed anticipation for a holy war of such magnitude, even if it meant enduring the destruction of families, witnessing the killing of children before their eyes, or the brutal murder of spouses and parents. He emphasized that no legal system, court, or punishment in the country could compare to the severity of retribution he sought for those who insulted Prophet Mohammed.

It is clear that individuals who engage in promoting violence, hate speech, and discrimination against communities and faiths, including racists, blasphemers, hate mongers, and casteists, often conceal their actions under the guise of social justice, benefiting from the strong support of the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

A few months ago in July, the MMK led by Jawahirullah had made obscene posters of insulting Hindu Gods Ram, Lakshman and Goddess Sita.

The banner had caricatured images of Narendra Modi as Lord Ram and Amit Shah as Lord Lakshman holding bow and arrows standing on either sides of a naked woman (Goddess Sita), hinting at the horrific incident in Manipur in which a woman was paraded naked and sexually assaulted. The Indian tricolour can be seen covering the female genitals and the breasts of the caricatured woman.

After much outrage, Jawahirullah took to social media and apologized for the derogatory board placed by members of his party.

In the DMK’s recent announcement of candidates in Tamil Nadu for 2024 also has sparked surprise and criticism. Notably, Selvaganapathy, allegedly resembling the casteist character Rathinavelu in the movie ‘Maamannan’, was nominated for the Salem Parliamentary constituency. Selvaganapathy, previously embroiled in a scandal involving a cremation shed and ousted from his position as a Rajya Sabha MP, saw his conviction temporarily halted by the Madras High Court under Justice Jeyachandran.

Additionally, another DMK candidate, Suriamoorthi, has come under fire on social media due to an old video showing him verbally abusing and threatening violence against Dalits.

The derogatory remarks made by DMK Alliance MPs such as VCK’s Thirumavalavan and DMK A Raja regarding Hindu beliefs and faith are well-documented and do not require further mention.

“What Did You Do For The People Of This Constituency?” DMK MLA Prabhakaran Faces Ire In Muslim Area As He Campaigns For DMK Candidate Arun Nehru In Perambalur

arun-nehru-kn-nehru-v-kalathur-perambalur-dmk-elections.jpg

As the polling date for the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu approaches, political parties in the state are intensifying their campaigns. In the Perambalur constituency, the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) has fielded Arun Nehru, son of Minister KN Nehru, as their candidate. However, recent events during Arun Nehru’s campaign have highlighted challenges for the DMK in the region.

During a campaign event in V Kalathur, an area with a Muslim majority, Arun Nehru was accompanied by Perambalur DMK MLA Prabhakaran. However, instead of receiving a warm welcome, they faced a barrage of questions from the gathered crowd. Residents voiced their frustration, questioning why they only show up during elections and not after winning MLA seats. They questioned, “Why are you coming here only for asking votes, did you even come here to thank us after winning MLA elections?”. They even questioned, “What did you do for the people of the constituency?”

The MP candidate, Arun Nehru, seemingly disheartened by the reception, abruptly ended his campaign and left the area. Reports suggest he expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support from the local populace for his DMK colleagues.

Meanwhile, BJP candidate Parivendhan is gaining traction in the region with promises of tangible benefits for the constituency. Parivendhan has pledged free medical care for 1500 families and the initiation of a railway project for Perambalur. His promises have resonated with the people, who have shown a welcoming attitude towards his campaign.

This follows the pattern of the public openly showing their emotions over their increasing dissatisfaction with the ruling DMK. In the past week, several such incidents occurred in Tamil Nadu:

  • South Chennai DMK MP Tamizhachi Thangapandian was turned away by the residents of Mylapore over unfulfilled promises and her long absence.
  • Central Chennai DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran faced hard questions from his constituents over unfulfilled promises.
  • North Chennai DMK MP Kalanidhi Veerasamy also faced similar treatment by the public especially over his absence after the devastating floods following Cyclone Michaung.
  • DMK MLA VG Rajendran, an assembly member, who was campaigning for Congress candidate Sasikanth Senthil in Tiruvallur faced a barrage of questions and opposition from the people.
  • DMK candidate Thanga Tamil Selvan‘s campaign in Theni was interrupted by a youth to voice concerns about the lack of road facilities in his area for over two decades.
  • Karur Congress MP Jothimani also faced tough questions from constituents during her campaign in Kodankipatti Adi Dravidar residential area.
  • DMK erode candidate Prakash was given cold welcome by public by displaying black flags on houses, gardens, and commercial establishments in over 10 villages.
  •  A group of women campaigning for their DMK candidate Ganapathy P Rajkumar faced intense questioning from local residents, resulting in their dismissal in Coimbatore.

“Need A Strong Centre And Determined PM”: VK Sasikala Drops Her Anchor On Katchatheevu Issue To Slam DMK

xr:d:DAF4npdv1Dg:1460,j:1297460399539578378,t:24040311

In a recent letter dated 2 April 2024, VK Sasikala, the General Secretary of the AIADMK, expressed strong support for the Kachchathivu issue. Highlighting the significance of the matter, Sasikala emphasized the need to safeguard the rights of Sri Lankan Tamils and ensure the retrieval of Kachchathivu, which she asserts belongs to Indian soil.

Sasikala pointedly criticized the DMK and Congress parties, holding them accountable for neglecting the interests of Tamil Nadu fishermen and failing to address the ongoing confrontations with the Sri Lankan Navy. She asserted that the revolutionary leader, the late Jayalalithaa, ardently advocated for the recovery of Kachchathivu, filing a case in the Supreme Court and spearheading resolutions in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

In her missive, Sasikala recounted historical events surrounding Kachchathivu, tracing its ownership back to the Sethupathi kings of Ramanathapuram and condemning its cession to Sri Lanka in 1974 by the Indian government. She reiterated the necessity of restoring Kachchathivu to Indian territory to ensure the livelihood and security of Tamil Nadu fishermen.

Furthermore, Sasikala disclosed efforts made towards resolving the issue, including obtaining permission for Tamil devotees to participate in the festival of St. Anthony’s Church on Kachchathivu Island in 2016. She lamented the unfulfilled implementation of a comprehensive action plan devised during Jayalalithaa’s tenure, citing her demise as a setback.

Asserting the need for a robust central government and a determined Prime Minister, Sasikala assured that under their leadership, efforts to retrieve Kachchathivu and protect the rights of Sri Lankan Tamils would be prioritized.

“Shall We Call Him ‘Drug Udhayanidhi Stalin’ From Now On?”, Annamalai In Response To Udhayanidhi’s ’29 Paisa Modi’ Remark

Since being chosen as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Lok Sabha candidate for the Coimbatore constituency, Annamalai, the President of the Tamil Nadu BJP, has embarked on a whirlwind tour. He consistently engages with the media, providing periodic responses to their inquiries.

Similarly, during one such press meeting, he responded to a question on Udhayanidhi Stalin calling Prime Minister Modi “29 Paisa Modi”, Annamalai said, “So Udhayanidhi Stalin’s name must be Beer, TASMAC, Liquor. This is Udhayanidhi Stalin’s name. Shall we call him Drug Udhayanidhi Stalin? Or should we call him Beer Udhayanidhi Stalin or Beer Udhayanidhi Stalin? If I say all this, people will mistake us. Cadre is calling him by different names. So we will call Udhayanidhi Stalin “Drug Udhayanidhi Stalin” from tomorrow. If he is ok, ask him to come to the battlefield, we are ready. We are being silent to maintain decency and respect. If he says 29 Paisa Modi once more tomorrow, our cadre will start calling him Drug Udhayanidhi Stalin. He has several names, surely we will use one of them. He should give respect to get respect.”

Udhayanidhi Stalin while campaigning in Ponneri for Congress candidate Sashikanth Senthil, who is contesting from the Tiruvallur constituency, alleged that Edappadi Palaniswami, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and current AIADMK General Secretary, made derogatory remarks against him. He went on to say Edappadi Palanisami had no spine when it came to countering Modi or Sasikala. He stated that EPS would fall flat at Modi’s feet. Udhayanidhi also alleged that, “The convergence of IPL interests and the AIADMK is evident, with various teams represented within the party. In light of this, I’ve symbolically renamed Prime Minister Modi as “29 Paisa Modi,” signifying his perceived inability to provide full value for taxpayers’ money. With just 29 paise returned for every rupee taxed, it’s apt to discard his former title.”

Interestingly, the social media platform X started seeing the hashtag #Drugnidhi trending after Annamalai’s press meet.

“BJP Is My B-Team, Annamalai Is My Brother” Says Seeman, Annamalai Says Seeman Is Now Trying To Hitchhike On Him Since He Has No Symbol And Vote

In Tamil Nadu, there’s a noticeable trend where individuals seeking fame strategically use Annamalai as a means to gain publicity. Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP president, is known for his articulate criticisms. In line with this, recently it appears that the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader Seeman has attempted to stir controversy by insinuating that Annamalai was a “sleeper cell” operating on his behalf. This move seems designed to divert attention towards Seeman and keep him in the spotlight, leveraging Annamalai’s reputation for publicity.

During a recent gathering in Madurai introducing NTK Candidate Sathya Devi on 31 March 2024, Seeman, the Chief Coordinator of NTK, engaged in a heated exchange with Annamalai, a leader of the BJP, following the BJP’s revival of the Katchatheevu island dispute. Seeman criticized the BJP for resurrecting the issue, which dates back to its cession to Sri Lanka under the Indira Gandhi-led government. He accused the BJP of suddenly awakening to the matter just before the Lok Sabha election, portraying it as a calculated political maneuver.

Seeman said, “Those who said that I am the B-team of BJP, pay attention to the fact that my B-team is the BJP. They speak about Eelam, you too go and talk, isn’t there a big gap between truth and lies? This didn’t work. So what do we do now, they talk about ‘En Mann En Makkal’ and Tamil nationalism. Annamalai is my brother, I sent him in as a sleeper cell. Lakhs of brothers work from here, only one brother who works from within and makes me world famous because both of us have the same blood, Tamil mother blood, hence we both travel with the same thought.

If you say from there ‘En Mann En Makkal’, what politics is this? If En Mann En Makkal happens in Karnataka it refers to India, if it happens in Bihar it refers to India, if it happens in Gujarat it refers India, if it happens in Tamil Nadu it means the Tamil nation I have created, for whom he is working now? Now he is also asking for votes for me.

During Annamalai’s campaign in Coimbatore, reporters questioned whether Seeman’s assertion that “Annamalai is now Seeman’s sleeper cell” holds any truth. Annamalai casually with a smiling face mocked, “Seeman has no vote and symbol, now he is using Annamalai. Now what Annamalai is Seeman’s sleeper cell, is it? Or is Seeman is Annamalai’s sleeper cell?”

“As far as Seeman is concerned, he knows, whose side the youth is, whose side the women are, knows whose side the mothers are. Today BJP stands out, our National Democratic Alliance stands out, people also know that Modi is returning to power, all the support is coming for the National Democratic Alliance. So I have already said, Seeman will talk about all this, don’t take it too seriously.”

POCSO Case Looms Over Rahul Gandhi As Election Campaign Heats Up

As the election campaign intensifies, an unexpected development has emerged. A POCSO case that was filed against Congress scion Rahul Gandhi has again made headlines.

Netizens wondered if this was just speculation or actual news. Upon digging a bit, it was found to be indeed true. A POCSO case was filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The case stems from an incident in 2021 when Rahul Gandhi allegedly disclosed the identity of a victim protected under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and her family members on Twitter. NCPCR Chief Priyank Kanoongo stated that a case was registered against Gandhi under Section 23 of the POCSO Act, Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, and Section 128 A of the Indian Penal Code.

He had visited the family of the nine-year-old Dalit girl who was raped, murdered, and hastily cremated by the perpetrators. Gandhi tweeted a picture with the girl’s parents. Following this, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice to Twitter India regarding a photo shared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, which allegedly revealed the identity of the family members of a rape victim, violating the POCSO Act and Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act. The NCPCR requested Twitter (now X) to remove the post and asked the Delhi Police to take action against Gandhi.

A complaint was also filed against Rahul Gandhi by a Delhi-based lawyer, resulting in an FIR against him. The photo in question showed Gandhi with the parents of a Dalit minor who was allegedly raped and killed. In his post, with the image, he wrote, “The parents’ tears are saying only one thing – their daughter, the daughter of this country, deserves justice. And I am with them on this path of justice.”

Despite Twitter’s claim of taking down the tweet, NCPCR argued that the offense of disclosing sensitive information still stands.

This POCSO case that was filed in 2021 looms over Rahul Gandhi’s head.

“We Won’t Cast Our Votes, Don’t Come Here Seeking Votes”, DMK Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan Turned Away From Tirunelveli LS Constituency While Campaigning For Congress

The Tirunelveli Lok Sabha Constituency encompasses nine coastal villages, boasting a combined voting population exceeding 30,000 individuals. Notable among these villages are Panchal, Perumanal, Idindakarai, Kududathali, Uvari, Kuthankuzhi, and Koopapani.

In the current electoral landscape, with Congress nominee C Robert Bruce vying for the seat, it appears that the DMK has shown limited interest in the constituency. To safeguard against potential vote loss, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan has been delegated responsibility by DMK party leader MK Stalin as the overseer of fishing communities within the Tirunelveli district.

Anitha Radhakrishnan embarked on the customary campaign trail within these villages, advocating for their alliance candidate Robert. However, tensions arose when Radhakrishnan sought votes in the Kudankulam area, where villagers expressed discontent.

Following recent floods in December that ravaged Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts, fishermen from Tirunelveli promptly mobilized their boats for rescue efforts. In recognition of their valor, the government pledged financial aid of ₹22,500 per individual. Regrettably, this assistance has yet to materialize, prompting frustration among the affected communities.

Moreover, in Mukkudal, fishermen confronted Anitha Radhakrishnan, alleging discrepancies in the distribution of ₹1,000 entitled under the “Mahalir Urimai Thogai” scheme meant for women. This discontent underscores broader grievances within the fishing community, highlighting the need for prompt and equitable redressal of their concerns.

Amid the crowd, an angry woman exclaimed, “Hear this! What did you say when you came to seek votes? You said this is for all women. Now half of us didn’t receive it. Tell us when we will get it.” Unexpectedly put in the spot by the village women, Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan responded, “Everyone will receive it after the election” Another woman from the crowd remarked, “It’s like that until you get votes” Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan retorted, “I’m saying that you will receive it after the elections, what shall I do if you don’t have the trust?”

Another individual emerged from the back of the crowd to complain to the minister about the reduced water supply in Mukkudal town panchayat; previously two hours, now only one. Overwhelmed by the barrage of questioning from the locals, the minister swiftly retreated, fleeing the scene in his car. As the minister hastily departed, the angered women declared, “We won’t cast our votes. We’re asking so much, see, is he giving an answer? No one should come seeking votes here in the town; they only win because of us. I’m telling you, we won’t cast our votes.”

Coastal communities have borne the brunt of significant sea erosion, resulting in damage to residential structures. A plea has been put forth for the installation of curved section nets to mitigate these effects. Notably, fishing communities in Tuticorin district have been exerting pressure on Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan, urging for the construction of ramps.

Tamil Nadu encompasses 13 coastal districts housing 561 fishing villages. Criticism has long been directed towards the DMK for neglecting the political representation of fishermen. Jennifer Chandran was the solitary fisherman from Tuticorin to secure a position in the cabinet under DMK’s tenure from 1996 to 2001. However, following this period, the significance accorded to fishermen diminished. There is a particular outcry for the Fisheries Minister to be appointed from the fishing community. It is alleged this time around that major political parties, including the DMK, have neglected to nominate fishermen.

This follows the pattern of the public openly showing their emotions over their increasing dissatisfaction with the ruling DMK. In the past week, several such incidents occurred in Chennai:
