“Vairamuthu Neither A Good Man Nor A Good Intellect”, Gangai Amaran Slams Vairamuthu Over Remarks Against Ilaiyaraaja

Veteran music composer and younger brother of maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Gangai Amaran, has stepped into the ongoing conflict between Ilaiyaraaja and Vairamuthu, adding fuel to the fire in the Kollywood scene. Vairamuthu made his cinema debut with the song “Idhu Oru Ponmalai Pozhudhu” in the movie Nizhalgal, composed by Ilaiyaraaja. While their collaboration began successfully, their partnership soured due to personal egos, leading to indirect attacks on each other ever since.

At a recent music launch event for the film “Padikkadha Pakkangal” on 27 April 2024, Vairamuthu indirectly criticized Ilaiyaraaja, sparking further tension. Responding to Vairamuthu’s perceived retaliation against Ilaiyaraaja’s copyright claims, Gangai Amaran, issued a stern public warning to Vairamuthu.

Vairamuthu had earlier remarked, “There is a complex (debate) is being talked about, Whether the music is great in songs? Or the lyrical language? No doubt about it, music is as important as the lyrics and language is as important as the music. If both come together, it is called a song. Sometimes the language seems bigger than the music and on the other, music seems bigger than the language. He who understands this is wise, and he who does not understand is ignorant.

Gangai Amaran expressed disappointment in Vairamuthu’s actions, highlighting the betrayal felt by someone who rose alongside them but later turned against them. He emphasized that Vairamuthu’s pride, born from the success of his songs, contrasts sharply with the humility that would have preserved their friendship had it continued. Gangai Amaran cautioned Vairamuthu against further criticism of Ilayaraja, warning of repercussions if he persists.

Gangai Amaran retaliated, “He (Vairamuthu) has been raised by us, the one who was lifted up by us, the one who got on the lift to write a song; Ponmalai Pozhudhu was written by him. He gave an interview as if he has trampled on the place he came from and had thrown up the seat and broken it. If Bharathiraja had not requested, Ilaiyaraaja would not have accepted. If he had thought about all that, he would not have given such an interview now. Once his songs gained popularity, Vairamuthu became arrogant. This arrogance would not have come if he had continued to write songs with Ilaiyaraaja. Because both of them would have talked and behaved as good friends, we would have enjoyed seeing all that. We didn’t expect him to spoil the friendship like this. It is not necessary that lyrics remain in people’s memory, it is the tune/the music, as far as I am concerned. As far as the songs are concerned, Vairamuthu is a good poet, but not a good man, nor a good intellect.”

He further said, “Vairamuthu should pray to Ilaiyaraaja’s photo, had it not been for Ilaiyaraaja, Vairamuthu would have been a nobody.”

Additionally, Gangai Amaran cautioned Vairamuthu that any future grievances or criticisms directed towards Ilaiyaraaja will result in alternative repercussions. He strongly advised Vairamuthu to cease discussing Ilaiyaraaja entirely, urging him to focus solely on his own endeavors, much like Ilayaraja diligently attends to his own work. Lastly, Gangai Amaran criticized Vairamuthu’s practice of demanding bulk purchases of his books as a condition for participating in interviews, suggesting a facetiousness in Vairamuthu’s demeanor.

This public confrontation between Gangai Amaran and Vairamuthu has stirred up significant attention in Kollywood, reigniting the cold war between Ilaiyaraaja and Vairamuthu. Fans are now anticipating whether Vairamuthu will retaliate against Gangai Amaran, heightening the drama surrounding this unexpected turn of events.

“Stomach Hurts, Intestines Burn; Is Kodaikanal Necessary?” Netizens Troll MK Stalin Along The Lines Of His Father Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accompanied by his familyembarked on a six-day summer vacation to Kodaikanal on 29 April 2024.

Since it was a private visit, no visitors or party members were permitted to meet him. More than 200 police officers were stationed at Madurai airport in anticipation of the CM’s arrival. Stalin and his family then traveled to Kodaikanal via the Batlagundu road and are staying at The Tamara Resort on St. Mary’s Road. Approximately 1500 police personnel have been deployed to ensure their security. Additionally, the flying of drones and balloons has been prohibited in the district until 4 May 2024. The Chief Minister is scheduled to remain in Kodaikanal until 4 May 2024.

Critique Surrounding Stalin’s Trip To Kodaikanal

Since the arrest of former DMK functionary and alleged international drug trafficker Jaffer Sadiq, Tamil Nadu has witnessed a noticeable uptick in drug seizures and the prevalence of drug abuse among its youth, including substances like ganja, drug pills, etc. Concurrently, instances of intoxicated individuals committing acts of violence against both the public and government officials have also been on the rise. Amidst this, netizens directed their criticism towards Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. This criticism intensified when, as the CM was departing from Madurai Airport, BJP member Shankar Pandian attempted to present a petition and a packet of ganja to Stalin, seemingly as a form of protest against his visit to Kodaikanal. However, Pandian was promptly detained by the police and taken to the Avaniyapuram police station for further questioning.

In his petition, Pandian purportedly expressed concern about widespread drug use in the state, including the availability of internationally prohibited drugs. He highlighted the negative impact of drug addiction on youth, including students, children, and daily wage laborers, and urged Chief Minister Stalin to take action to combat drug use and trafficking in Tamil Nadu.

Another concern that stakeholders in the tourism industry expressed was that the Chief Minister’s visit to Kodaikanal during peak tourist season could potentially slow down tourism. Robin, president of the Tourist Guides Association in Kodaikanal, noted that the hill station attracts tourists seeking relief from the summer heat in the plains, especially when outdoor spaces are crowded. He mentioned that some tourists rushed to leave hotels on 28 April 2024, anticipating new restrictions due to the CM’s visit.

It is reported that routes leading to Kodaikanal through the plains will be closed from 8 AM to 1 PM. With a significant influx of tourists from Kerala following the conclusion of the general election, there is increased congestion in the area. Suggestions have been made to open alternative routes, including one from Munnar, Kerala, to alleviate traffic congestion.

The netizens also began circulating former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s critique of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, “Stomach hurts; Intestines burn; Is Kodanadu Necessary?”

This criticism, originally aimed at ridiculing Jayalalithaa, drawing attention to rising prices of pulses when Karunanidhi served as opposition leader, is now being repurposed by netizens to mock current Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Four Temple Archakas In Mettupalayam Arrested For Taking Home Donations Offered By Devotees On Plates

On 25 April 25 2024, authorities apprehended four priests affiliated with the Vanabadrakaliamman Temple in Mettupalayam on allegations of “misappropriation of devotee donations.” Alongside them, the temple trustee, implicated in the matter, is reportedly on the run.

The individuals in question were identified by Mettupalayam Police as R Ragupathi (36) from Sulur, S Thandapani (47) from Mettupalayam, S Vishnukumar (33) from Gobichettipalayam, and L Saravanan (54) from Mettupalayam. One of the arrested priests Raghupathi is the son-in-law of the hereditary trustee of the temple Vasantham Sampath.

Law enforcement officials cited CCTV footage as evidence, capturing the four priests taking home donations left by worshippers on offering plates.

US Kailasamurthy, assistant commissioner of the HR&CE department and temple’s executive officer, emphasized that temple priests are obligated to deposit all donations, including those received on offering plates, into the hundi, as mandated by government directives and supported by rulings from the Madras High Court.

To monitor adherence to these regulations, the temple administration installed CCTV cameras. However, Kailasamurthy noted that the accused priests neglected this practice, leading to his petition to the Mettupalayam judicial magistrate court several months prior.

Following the court’s directive on March 14, 2024, the Mettupalayam police initiated legal proceedings against the implicated individuals, including the trustee, Vasantham Sampath. Consequently, on the evening of April 25, the police arrested the four priests, who were remanded in judicial custody the following day.

“You Accept ‘Double-Watch’ Wearer As Intelligent But Not Me?” Dalit Christian Activist Shalin Maria Lawrence Takes Dig At DMK Min PTR

Shalin Maria Lawrence, the vocal Dalit Christian writer and anti-caste activist, in her recent speech called out the so-called progressive leaders of Tamil Nadu for demeaning music legend Ilaiyaraaja for his stand.

Beginning her address with an invocation of an Ilaiyaraaja song, she said, This land has many progressive leaders who humiliate the living legend of our generation, Ilaiyaraaja, she remarked.

Recalling a speech by Congress leader EVKS Elangovan at an event organized by Dravida Kazhagam in Erode, Shalin Maria Lawrence highlighted a poignant moment when Elangovan, in an indirect reference to Ilaiyaraaja, stated, There are certain elements in Tamil Nadu today claiming themselves to be ‘king of music’. Everybody knows who the king of music is. Not everyone who plays the tabla can become a music composer.”

With a pointed question, Shalin Maria Lawrence challenged, Will you be able to give such beats?”

She did not shy away from calling out the leftist progressive parties of Tamil Nadu for their complicity in perpetuating caste-based discrimination. These parties, who claim to champion the cause of progressivism, often stand at the forefront in humiliating Dalits, she declared.

She took a direct swipe at DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, questioning the double standards prevalent in society regarding caste and intelligence.

Addressing the gathering, Shalin Maria targeted PTR, stating, When the Paraiyar caste declares itself as a ‘knowledge society‘, why can’t you accept that? If someone from the Brahmin, Mudaliyar, or Pillaival community, or even someone who wears double watches, declares themselves as intelligent, you accept it. Then why can’t you accept it when I say I’m intelligent?”

Hosur: POCSO Slapped On Seventh-Day Adventist Church Priest, Arrested For Allegedly Sexually Harassing Teen

An incident involving the alleged sexual harassment of a Nepali girl by a priest in Hosur has stirred up commotion in the area.

May Wald, a 57-year-old pastor residing near Hosur in Krishnagiri district, serves in ‘The Seventh-day Adventist Church’ located in the Mathigiri vicinity. For the past 15 years, a Nepali family has been residing in the same locality.

A 17-year-old girl from this family, having recently completed her plus-2 education and currently preparing for the NEET exam, reportedly faced sexual harassment by Reverend May Wald.

Following the victim’s complaint to the Krishnagiri District Child Protection Committee officials, subsequent action was taken, culminating in a formal complaint lodged at the Hosur All Women Police Station. An earnest investigation ensued, confirming the veracity of the allegations against Reverend May Wald.

Consequently, the religious preacher was apprehended and detained by the women police under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

A 14-year-old girl residing in Muthukadai, Ranipet, and attending class 10 at a private school in Arcot used to frequent a nearby church during holidays. However, in December 2022, her routine took a distressing turn when she was allegedly molested by the 54-year-old priest, Raghurajkumar, during one of her visits. The ordeal left her deeply troubled, and despite threats to keep silent, she eventually confided in her parents about the incident recently, prompting them to take swift action.

They filed a complaint at the Ranipet All Women Police Station, leading to an investigation and subsequent registration of a case against Raghurajkumar under the POCSO Act for sexual harassment. Currently, authorities are in pursuit of Raghurajkumar, who has gone into hiding.

With schools closed and children on vacation, child activists and law enforcement officials are urging parents to be vigilant about their children’s interactions and relationships. They emphasize the importance of creating an environment where children feel comfortable discussing any challenges they may face, including understanding the concepts of appropriate and inappropriate physical contact, to ensure their safety and well-being.

Alleged Police Collusion: Whistleblower Exposed To Threats By Counterfeit Liquor Sellers In Cuddalore

In a concerning event in Cuddalore district, a whistleblower who alerted the police about the rampant sale of counterfeit liquor in his vicinity faced threats and was forced to flee for safety. He claimed that the police had allegedly disclosed his identity and contact details, putting his life at risk.

It’s alleged that the police betrayed Jesudas, who reported the illegal sale of liquor near Srimushnam village in Cuddalore district, by giving his information to the liquor-selling gang. The illicit liquor trade operates around the clock in Ramapuram village. Jesudas, the informant, faced threats to his life from the sellers after they obtained his phone number through the police. Terrified, Jesudas sought refuge in the forests nearby.

In his distress, he contacted the police control room “100”, accusing the Srimushnam police of collusion with the counterfeit liquor gangs. He pleaded for help, fearing for his life, and disclosed his location. Jesudas recounted his ordeal, stating that despite his efforts to report the illegal activity, the police’s actions put his life in jeopardy. He lamented his situation, expressing his desperation for assistance as he hid in fear for his safety.

Jesudas provided audio evidence detailing his plight. He narrated how he had been running from danger since morning and expressed disbelief at the police’s betrayal. Jesudas shared the chilling threats he received from the liquor sellers, who were actively seeking him out for retribution. Jesudas said, “I’ve made three calls from the morning, sir. I’ve made a complaint asking to connect the (police) station that someone is selling liquor illegally. Instead what did was, they gave my number to liquor sellers and informed them that I had made the complaint. Now they are confronting me about it, the police called us from Srimushnam station and gave us your number. Did you call and tell them? I will hack you to death.  They are searching for me now, I am now hiding in a grove sitting with fear.” He subsequently conveyed all his current whereabouts to the emergency operator, while expressing doubt about sharing this information with the same police station. He lamented that they were the primary cause of his need to hide.

In the same district, a journalist had recorded video evidence of illegal alcohol sales and reported to the police. He was brutally assaulted by the illegal liquor-selling gang. In Kadoor village of Cuddalore district, an incident on Mahavir Jayanti saw the illegal sale of alcohol, prompting journalist Velan to record footage of the illicit activity. However, he found himself embroiled in a dispute with the illegal liquor sales gang. Despite notifying the police, Velan was later attacked by the gang while riding a two-wheeler near Kazhudur. He sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Veppur Government Hospital. The community is critical of the police’s inaction in preventing illegal liquor sales and is demanding both an end to such activities and the arrest of those responsible for attacking the journalist.

Complaint Filed Against Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore Archdiocese For Influencing Voters On Religious Lines

A formal complaint has been filed against Mr. George Antonysamy, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, alleging an attempt to sway voters using religious sentiments during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The complaint in particular raises concerns about an editorial published by Antonysamy in ‘The New Leader’ magazine affiliated with the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, Tamil Nadu, operating under the umbrella of a public charitable trust, ‘The New Leader Foundation’, with Archbishop Antonysamy serving as its president.

The recent edition of The New Leader magazine, published by the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, featuring a cover story titled “Elections 24, Modi’s endgame,” that raises serious concerns.

The editorial in question, titled “General Election 2024: Statement from Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council,” purportedly aimed to influence voter opinion by invoking religious sentiments and fear-mongering tactics.

In the guest editorial George Antonysamy openly criticized India, its elected central government, and its citizens.

In the editorial, he writes under the subheading – “Challenges we face as ‘Minorities’“, he writes, “There is an attempt to construct India as a mono-cultural nation denying the diversity of our country.” He further continues, “.. today’s Union Government is destroying this diversity and imposing the ideology of one religion, one language, and one culture on us. And along with fascist ideologies of a single party, single leadership, non-opposition India, it is overturning the very democratic philosophy of India.”

He further continues to peddle disharmony by stating, “Christians and Muslims are branded as anti-nationals and their fundamental rights such as the right to worship, places of worship, and religious celebrations are under attack. Our freedom of religion is being curtailed in the name of Anti Conversion Bill under the false accusation that Christians are proselytizing.” He also adds, “The government has tried to impose communal law on us in the name of common civil code.”

His guest editorial further talks about Stan Swamy, how media has come “under the clutches of ruling union government“, how opposition members are thrown out, how southern states are “neglected” in tax distribution, how state rights are being attacked without “even giving compensation we are entitled to during natural calamities” and that the EC, investigative bodies, courts are under “control of the government“.

In the end, he gives a call to action that all Christians must vote to “protect this land in a way that ensures religious faith and human rights of all people.” He also asks the readers to “reject sectarian parties” and calls to the people to “vote together with the majority of the people such as non-religious, democratic forces, marginalised people, backward, downtrodden, tribal people and workers

In total, this editorial looks like it has been written by a DMK member especially because of the repeated use of the words “Union government” and parroting the same claims made by DMK ministers in Tamil Nadu.

“We will analyze the signs of the times based on gospel values and support the parties that protect freedom, equality, fraternity, democracy, social justice and the welfare of minorities in this election”, the editorial said.

Such actions further underscore the urgent need for decisive action to protect India’s legacy and uphold its integrity.

Several organizations fall under the purview of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore and it becomes pertinent, given the character of the Archdiocese, that these organisations too, be thoroughly investigated for potential violations of FEMA, PMLA, and FCRA regulations. These organisations under the Archdiocese include the Estate of Sir John De Monte, the Archdiocese of Madras Mylapore Society, Madras Social Service Society, Chennai Mylai Educational Society, Jdax (John Demonte Academy of Excellence), The Cuomo Foundation Trust of India, and Caritas India.

Despite the ban on FCRA donations to churches and NGOs which clandestinely operate and use the funds allegedly for conversions, the Archdiocese appears to be engaging in blatant practices aimed at influencing elections and undermining the democratic process.

There have been calls for immediate and decisive action to investigate the Archdiocese’s alleged activities and requests to hold those guilty accountable for violating the law.

In light of the legal activism organization Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) has raised the matter with the Election Commission of India saying “The said article was published with the ultimate intention of influencing the voters to vote on religious lines. Misusing their position of eminence within the Church, the Bishop’s Council has made a blatant attempt to polarize voters on religious lines. Serious action needs to be taken against the Bishop’s Council and the Archdiocese of Mylapore Madras.

LRPF also alleged that the Bishop’s Council and Archdiocese of Mylapor-Madras are receiving huge amounts of funds arising out of vast endowments made in the past for various benefactors to further the Christian faith. They apparently control several FCRA-registered organizations receiving foreign funds from abroad.

Instead of utilizing the funds for the purpose intended by the donors, the entities are using the same to spew venom against the central government, judiciary, parliament and media. This amounts to blatant misuse of the FCRA funds.“, the LRPF complaint alleged.

How Elite Non-Brahmins Of Justice Party Meted Out Injustice To The Oppressed Communities

The concept of the entire Dravidian ecosystem is built upon a tangled web of deceit, gradually evolving into a philosophy aimed at acquiring and maintaining power. Dravidian proponents meticulously craft an image of purity, yet under scrutiny, even the smallest shadows of falsehood emerge. As these lies are scrutinized closely, they unravel, leaving nothing behind.

On 27 April 2024, MK Stalin, the current DMK chief and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, commemorated the birthday of Justice Party’s chief, Pitti Theagaraya Chetty, praising him with a narrative woven intricately with falsehoods. Through his official platform, he lauded Chetty as a warrior who championed the cause of non-Brahmins and advocated for the Dravidian race. He hailed him as a key figure in Chennai’s educational and medical progress, attributing it to his supposedly unblemished political career. Stalin also credited Chetty as the innovator behind the morning breakfast program. Yet, beneath these accolades lies a facade, as Chetty’s life and work are painted with embellished tales, ultimately distorting reality.

Chief Minister MK Stalin’s post stated, “Warrior who proclaimed the Non-Brahmin Manifesto and raised the right voice of the Dravidian race! People’s volunteer who became a pillar of Chennai’s education and medical development due to his unsophisticated political life! Pioneer of the morning breakfast program! On the birthday of the venerable one who refused the post sought – our white-dressed chancellor Theagaraya, I salute his life and work!”

The entire Dravidian network perpetuates the falsehood that Pitti Theagaraya Chetty was the mastermind behind the morning breakfast program.

However, this assertion is blatantly false, as it was Colonel Henry Olcott, the co-founder of the Theosophical Society, who pioneered the free mid-day meal initiative in Adyar during the late 1890s and early 1900s, within the four schools under his administration. Subsequently, apart from Alcott Memorial School, the government assumed control of the other schools. Pitti Theagaraya then capitalized on this foundation to implement his own program. From the outset, the Justice Party harbored opposition toward Theosophical Society.

The Justice Party didn’t ascend to power solely on widespread support, but rather with some degree of favouritism. In 1920, Baron Willingdon extended an invitation to the Justice Party to establish the government, ostensibly under the guise of English authority’s encouragement. However, it became apparent that of the 65 candidates, only 15 were affiliated with the Justice Party. This raised concerns that Willingdon’s decision to form the government was a misinterpretation of the election results, possibly influenced by pressure from non-Brahmin factions within the populace.

The assumption of power didn’t mark the end of the mistreatment faced by the depressed classes; rather, it ushered in another lamentable chapter in their history under the Justice Party’s rule. TM Nair’s Spur Tank speech, followed by MC Rajah’s vote of thanks, saw significant participation from members of the depressed classes. Despite the high praise from Dravidian ideologues, who likened it to a Robin Hood scenario, the reality of the “Non-Brahmin Manifesto” was far sadistic. Instead of addressing the oppression endured by the depressed castes, the manifesto primarily focused on the grievances of non-Brahmin Zamindar landlord elites, who claimed birthright entitlement. This omission glaringly ignored the plight of the depressed castes, contrary to the manifesto’s purported intentions.

The critique of the Spur Tank speech from the perspective of the depressed classes centers on TM Nair’s emphasis on anti-Brahmin and anti-Annie Besant rhetoric, rather than addressing the concerns of the marginalized communities. While they appreciated the acknowledgment of their issues, they felt overshadowed by the discourse targeting Brahmins and Besant. Despite being organized and led by the scheduled castes, the speech minimally addressed their plight, consisting of merely seven lines if transcribed. The advent of the Justice Party marked a shift in dynamics, as dominant non-Brahmin castes within the party marginalized the depressed classes during the Pulianthope conflicts. Caste Hindus accused the Labour Commissioner of favoring the Adi-Dravidars, while Justice Party members were disgruntled over the rejection of their report, which the government deemed biased towards caste Hindus’ concerns. Pitti’s recommendation to relocate Adi-Dravidar settlements beyond the city limits and discourage their clustering together was endorsed by the government

It was surprising to see MC Rajah, a prominent Dalit leader, delivering the vote of thanks at a large Justice Party gathering at Spur Tank, where promises were made to uplift the downtrodden. However, soon after coming into power, during the Karnatic Mills strike, Justice Party leaders advocated for the removal of Adi-Dravidas from the boundaries of Madras, thereby isolating MC Rajah. The marginalized community, especially the depressed classes, distanced themselves from the party after the violent turn of events in the strike, where police intervention resulted in casualties. The Justice Party’s response further exacerbated the situation by suggesting the relocation of Adi-Dravidars outside Madras, indicating a clear abandonment of their interests. This drastic stance shocked MC Rajah, prompting him to harshly criticize the party for its unwillingness to incorporate the untouchables into its policies. He accused the Justice Party of closing ranks to only include caste Hindus, particularly in high-ranking positions within government, education, land ownership, and commerce. He denounced the party’s transformation into a mere conduit for securing government jobs for a select few non-Brahmin caste Hindus.

It might come as a surprise to realize that members of the depressed classes believed that the Justice Party was mirroring the behaviors TM Nair had condemned Brahmins for. The actions of Pitti were likened to those of Manu. This comparison prompted MC Rajah to challenge the underlying philosophy of the Justice Party and ultimately led to his departure. It is notable that Pitti Theagaraya Chetty, along with the Raja of Panagal, focused more on removing Brahmins from positions of authority in administration and politics than on implementing social reforms to address the issues faced by the depressed classes.

This can be further supported by the incident in 1934 when Mahatma Gandhi visited Courtallam and witnessed the practice of untouchability at the falls, leading him to decline bathing there. Additionally, it’s noteworthy that the Temple Entry Act was not introduced or approved during Justice’s administration.

Elite Caste Privilege And Oppression In Colonial India Was A Mistake

The philosophy espoused by certain elite castes wasn’t genuine, as they benefited from redistribution facilitated by the British but failed to share these benefits with oppressed castes like Vanniyar, Thevar, and Nadars. These castes, who had displayed valor in the early freedom struggle, had their status and wealth stripped by the British and were subjected to oppressive measures such as the Criminal Tribes Acts. Despite this, during the Justice Party period, only castes like Chetty, Komati, Mudaliar, Naidu, and Nayar made significant progress and advancement, standing out among the many non-Brahmin communities of their time.

British officials were fully aware that their actions were unethical. By granting preferential treatment to the elite, who faced no barriers to education unlike the truly disadvantaged, figures like Montagu were conscious of the consequences of implementing “communal quotas.” Their focus on pampering the elite Non-Brahmins while disregarding the needs of the oppressed hindered the development of genuine political representation in India was another sad reality.

In 1968, Annadurai, the former Chief Minister and ideologue of the DMK, responded to a question from a Harijan leader in the state legislative assembly by mocking the notion that the depressed classes, despite receiving quotas for educational and employment opportunities, continued to claim backwardness. He cautioned against the idea that utilizing benefits designated for the depressed classes should perpetually justify their status. He suggested that the reluctance to acknowledge progress might be entrenched in the mindset of certain segments, hinting at the challenge within the contemporary Dravidian ecosystem to confront this reality. Whether they are willing to accept this remains a significant question.

Therefore, the privileged Non-Brahmins of the Justice Party unjustly treated all communities, particularly the oppressed, while benefiting only their own group.

Rathnam Review: Director Hari Gives Dravidian Stocks A Meltdown

Rathnam is a 2024 film directed by the commercial director Hari, who has 20 successful films to his credit. The director known for his Singham franchise with Suriya and Saamy franchise with Vikram attempted a different flick with Vishaal.

In this film, the scene shifts toward Tirupati where 3 thugs stop a tourist bus, push it toward the mountain snatch their jewellery, and cut away their body parts.

The scene now shifts to a young boy (future Vishaal) who stabs a lady out of the blue and saves Samuthirakanni from trouble.

Rathnam becomes the go-to person for Samuthirakanni who after many years becomes a very influential MLA.

There are a lot of cringeworthy scenes about bar comedy with Yogi Babu though don’t evoke laughter but guarantee smiles.

Song placement doesn’t seem to come at a good time and the director struggles moving from an emotional scene to a comedy suddenly.

Things change after the heroine enters the scene played by Priya Bhavani Shankar. Vishaal keeps following her with his henchmen and saves us from a gang of thugs. Then it’s fight scenes and songs in an alternate fashion which makes it predictable and boring.

There’s a scene where Malliha (prayed by Priya Bhavani Shankar) says that she wrote NEET and passed thrice and plans to write it the 4th time to get a government college seat.

Despite having a lot of land (which is money and is chased by the 3 men

The 3 men who in the original scene killed people in a tourist bus after many years grow up to be criminals dreaded in AP as Rayudu brothers and Co. The eldest is played by Vinod Sharma and 2 more.

After a lot of struggle and fights where Rathnam lays down his life at balance, Mallika rejects her wedding proposal and falls in love with Rathnam. Rathnam objects to this and reveals the actual reason.

The movie is bogged down by an excessive number of flashbacks. Vishaal is the saving grace and so is Yogi Babu. Karthik Subburaj’s father makes a special appearance as his son has produced it. But didn’t seem to make an impact or glue to the film.

The film very positively portrays Brahmins in a respectable light as progressive people. This could be a reason why Red Giant wouldn’t have wanted to produce as it thwarts their aspirations of dividing Hindus and casting aspersions on Brahmins.

Vishaal’s relationship with the Agraharam inmates is revealed toward the climax. What happens to the villains, and what happens to Malliha’s land is revealed in the story.

Unless it’s not bogged down with commercial elements and a solid screenplay, the film would’ve easily hit the top. The commendable aspects include no item numbers. Overall, a decent entertainer that should be watched once with family.
