Israeli Army Kills Hamas Commander In West Bank

The Israeli army has killed a senior Qassam Brigades commander and another Palestinian during a large-scale military operation in the eastern neighbourhood of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

According to Palestinian security sources and eyewitnesses, the Israeli forces, backed by large reinforcements, surrounded several residential buildings in the eastern neighbourhood of Jenin, which led to violent clashes that resulted in the killing of Aysar al-Saadi and another young man, Xinhua news agency reported.

The incident came as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) expanded its ongoing counterterrorism raid, dubbed “Operation Iron Wall,” in the northern West Bank to additional neighbourhoods of Jenin. In a first, troops were using “Eitan” armoured personnel carriers in Jenin amid the operation, which are more heavy duty than the APCs normally deployed in the West Bank.

On Tuesday morning, as part of the expanded operation, Border Police officers along with IDF troops attempted to arrest the commander of Hamas’s terror network in Jenin, Aysar al-Saadi, following information on his whereabouts provided by the Shin Bet. Following an exchange of fire, Saadi and another gunman were killed, and three wanted Palestinians were detained, according to the IDF, police, and Shin Bet.

Hamas mourned the death of Saadi, accusing Israel of resorting to “assassinations after failing to confront the resistance on the ground”. In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed the killing of Saadi, alleging that he was responsible for planning attacks against Israeli targets. The Israeli troops found an assault rifle, handgun, and several other weapons during scans of the building where Saadi was holed up.

Another gunman was killed in a separate exchange of fire in the same area, the IDF added. On Tuesday, a Palestinian man who approached Israeli forces at a checkpoint near the West Bank settlement outpost of Homesh while brandishing a knife was shot dead by troops, according to a military source. The statement also claimed that the second Palestinian killed “posed a threat” to Israeli forces in the area.

The army emphasised that military operations would continue in Jenin to pursue what it described as “terrorist elements”. Jenin governor Kamal Abu al-Rub said that two Palestinians were killed, “and many young men were arrested,” while the Palestinian Health Ministry identified one of the dead as Aysar al-Saadi, saying the 21-year-old’s body was taken away by troops after he was shot.

The head of the Jenin government hospital, Wisam Baker, told media that a man identified as Jihad Alawneh was declared dead on arrival at the facility early on Tuesday.

Baker said that Alawneh, 25, had bled out after being shot in the thigh. Governor Abu al-Rub said the raid had caused “devastation and massive destruction” in Jenin’s eastern neighbourhood, “which has not experienced an Israeli assault like this before.”

He said that the main electricity line was cut off, dozens of families were forced to leave, and army bulldozers had left behind a trail of damage. More than 40,100 Palestinians have left their homes since the launch of Operation Iron Wall, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) figures from mid-February.

The IDF has said troops have killed more than 75 Palestinian terror operatives and detained some 450 amid the major ongoing counter-terrorism operation. The military has also acknowledged mistakenly killing several civilians during the operation, including a toddler and a pregnant woman. Troops have also seized nearly 200 weapons.

PM Modi’s Love For Animals Goes Back A Long Way

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s affection for animals is well-known, and his love for them is not something new. Even before assuming office as Prime Minister, he had a deep bond with animals. Recently, Modi Archive ‘X handle’ shared old photos of PM Modi with animals, captioning them, “He loves animals, and they love him right back!”

The pictures show him sitting with a tiger, feeding an animal, and even holding a small animal in his lap, highlighting how his love for animals has been a long-standing passion.

This affection has been rejuvenated through his visit to Vantara in Gujarat on Sunday. During his time at Jamnagar’s Vantara, PM Modi spent some time with various wildlife, playing with Asiatic lion cubs, white lion cubs, clouded leopard cubs, and caracal cubs, among others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vantara animal rescue and rehabilitation centre in Jamnagar.

He remarked, “Inaugurated Vantara, a unique wildlife conservation, rescue, and rehabilitation initiative, which provides a safe haven for animals while promoting ecological sustainability and wildlife welfare. I commend Anant Ambani and his entire team for this very compassionate effort.” The visit included memorable moments as PM Modi fed lion cubs and admired an okapi. Vantara houses over 2,000 species and more than 1.5 lakh rescued, endangered, and threatened animals. Throughout the visit, PM Modi displayed affection for several animals, including feeding lemurs and engaging with seals.

Vantara spans 3,000 acres and features advanced veterinary facilities with enclosures designed to replicate the animals’ natural habitats. PM Modi also visited the wildlife hospital at Vantara, which is equipped with MRI, CT scans, and ICUs. During his visit, the Prime Minister witnessed an Asiatic lion undergoing an MRI and also visited the Operation Theatre where a leopard was receiving lifesaving surgery after being rescued from a highway accident.

Vantara offers specialised care with various departments, including Wildlife Anesthesia, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endoscopy, Dentistry, and Internal Medicine.

Karnataka Congress MLA Says Liquor Sale In Ration Shops In Rural Area Is Rampant

Congress MLA Mahantesh Koujalagi said on Tuesday that the sale of liquor in ration shops in rural areas has become a serious menace. He questioned the Congress-led government on the actions taken to curb this issue.

Following a heated debate, Speaker U.T. Khader urged the government to reduce the pressure of sales targets imposed on liquor license holders in the state. MLA Mahantesh raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday during Zero Hour. He stated, “In rural areas, the illegal sale of liquor is rampant. As a result, students in these areas are becoming alcoholics. Whenever we visit villages, mothers plead with us to stop the sale of liquor at ration shops and other small establishments.”

“The number of accidents has also increased, leading to a rise in fatalities among young people. The government must put an end to the illegal sale of liquor in small village shops. The existing laws are strong enough to address the issue, and the menace can be curbed,” he demanded.

JD(S) MLA and floor leader C.B. Suresh Babu added that liquor license holders are given sales targets, which pushes them to use all possible means to sell alcohol.

“They send liquor bottles on bikes to villages and even deliver them to agricultural fields for laborers,” he alleged. Former Home Minister and BJP MLA Araga Jnanendra remarked that the government should legalise liquor sales in all ration shops to generate revenue.

Speaker U.T. Khader intervened, urging him to provide constructive suggestions instead of complicating the issue. Araga Jnanendra further stated, “Liquor bottles are illegally supplied to shops near SC-ST colonies in my constituency. In those colonies, men aged between 35 and 40 are rarely found alive due to alcohol addiction.”

Senior Congress MLA S.N. Narayanaswamy from Bangarpet in Kolar district angrily responded, questioning why Araga Jnanendra was singling out SC-ST communities. “Are there no liquor addicts in other communities? Don’t others consume alcohol? Will you take a pledge against drinking?” he asked.

Speaker U.T. Khader suggested that the Excise Minister collect information from all MLAs about locations where liquor is sold illegally and take strict action, emphasising the seriousness of the issue. Minister for Excise R.B. Thimmapura responded that over 3,000 cases have been filed in the Belagavi division alone.

The department is conducting village-level meetings and has issued a circular directing officers to take strict action. Additionally, a coordination committee comprising the Excise Deputy Commissioner and other officials is working to curb illegal sales. Awareness programs are also being conducted in schools and villages, he stated.

At this point, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar intervened, pointing out that the House was discussing the Governor’s address. He challenged the former Home Minister to reveal how many illegal liquor shops were shut down during his tenure before further discussing the issue. Speaker Khader concluded by advising the Excise Minister to review and reduce sales targets to prevent undesirable consequences.

Top Railway Official Faces Action For New Delhi Railway Station Stampede

Heads seem to have started rolling over the stampede at New Delhi Railway station last month with the government shifting out the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Delhi, an official said on Tuesday.

The February 15 incident triggered by a surge in crowd waiting to board trains to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh on platforms 14 and 15 had claimed 18 lives.

The Railways announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for the seriously injured passengers and Rs 1 lakh for those who suffered minor injuries in the stampede. Earlier, the Railway Ministry constituted a two-member committee to probe the deadly stampede.

The probe committee comprising Narsingh Deo, PCCM/Northern Railway, and Pankaj Gangwar, PCSC Northern Railway, ordered the securing of video footage of platforms 14 and 15 of the station where the incident took place. The probe panel also inspected the tragedy site and collected statements of witnesses to corroborate it with the CCTV footage.

Sources said the probe panel was also mandated to investigate the possibility of the incident being triggered by rumours which forced waiting passengers to switch between the two platforms, resulting in the crushing of people on a staircase on platform 14.

The incident came at a time when several railway stations in north and east India were grappling to manage crowds headed to Maha Kumbh Mela.

The stampede followed a sharp increase in the number of passengers attempting to catch the weekend evening trains to the holy city, resulting in overcrowding and chaos. DCP Railway K.P.S. Malhotra explained the cause of the incident, stating that the main reason for the stampede was a surge in passengers during the delays of two trains.

Earlier, the Railways claimed that special trains were being run to manage the sudden rush at New Delhi Railway Station. Four special trains were run to evacuate the unprecedented sudden rush. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressed grief over the death of people in the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station.

He said, “I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My prayers are with all those who have lost their loved ones. The entire team is working to assist all those who have been affected by this tragic incident.”

Annamalai Slams DMK Govt For Preventing Annadhanam During Ayya Vaikundar Incarnation Festival

In yet another instance of blatant disregard for Hindu devotees’ rights, the police in Tirunelveli stopped the distribution of food at Ayya Vaikundapathy Temple in Palayamkottai today. This shocking action directly violates a court order that had mandated the distribution of food to devotees. However, the authorities, acting in an authoritarian and anarchic manner, chose to defy the legal directive, leaving the devotees outraged.

In response to this high-handedness, hundreds of devotees gathered in protest, blocking the road leading to the temple. Their demand was simple—let the court order be implemented, and let them receive what is rightfully theirs. Protesters who opposed this action were however arrested.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has strongly criticized the DMK government for its actions against the devotees of Ayya Vaikundar during the incarnation festival celebrations in Palayamkottai. The police reportedly entered the premises, halted the Annadhanam (food offering), and confiscated the utensils, citing a lack of permission.

In response, Annamalai took to his official X account, stating, “It is highly condemnable that the DMK government has imposed various restrictions on the incarnation festival of Ayya Vaikundar, a celebration joyfully observed by Ayya Vaikundar’s devotees worldwide. The police entered the Ayya Vaikundapathi in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli district, prevented the devotees from offering food, and seized their cooking utensils. As a result, the devotees of Ayya Vaikundar have been deeply hurt. In the spiritual land of Tamil Nadu, the DMK government has been in the habit of continuously disturbing the activities of devotees. Chief Minister Stalin seems to believe that by promoting pseudo-secularism, he can destroy the spiritual beliefs of Tamil Nadu with such reckless actions.  We strongly condemn this anarchic behavior of the DMK government. On the incarnation day of Ayya Vaikundar, we urge the Chief Minister to apologize for hurting the feelings of the devotees and take action against the police officers involved in this illegal act, as well as those responsible for it.”

TN BJP Chief Annamalai Slams Kanimozhi’s DMK Rhetoric, Demands Straightforward Answers

The war of words over the National Education Policy (NEP) escalated when DMK Deputy General Secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi, using the typical victim card tactics employed by the DMK, urged Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai to ensure that the Centre released education funds if he truly cared about students. This shifted the focus away from the original issue. Annamalai had earlier raised concerns about the DMK’s opposition to the third language policy, especially regarding Hindi, highlighting how it neglects only government school students who are excluded from the policy, while private run matriculation and CBSE school students are given the option to choose. Over the past two days, DMK MP Kanimozhi entered the fray, attempting to buttress the party’s stance, but ignoring the core issue. This time, Annamalai slammed the her political hypocrisy and urged her to get to the point and answer the question directly.

Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai, through his official X account, took to task DMK MP Kanimozhi, saying, “Anbu Akka Tmt @KanimozhiDMK, if the GOI-published data is critical of the TN Govt, you would call it biased. If the data is appreciative, you will publish it on the front page of Murasoli & Dhinakaran – typical of Review Gating (Receptive only to positive reviews & filters out negative feedback). The Pseudo truth environment that the DMK wishes to construct will be dismantled even if the GoTN commissions a survey to understand the quality of education imparted. We are confident that the results would point out the deteriorating education standards in TN today under your brother’s regime. Ennum ezhuthum, illam thedi kalvi & morning breakfast scheme were proposed in NEP2020/ Samagra Siksha. As a member of Parliament, you should have known that many of the NEP recommendations were rolled out for implementation in other states even before they were introduced in TN (without the effort of having to invent a new name for pasting stickers). For DMK, politics takes precedence over the future of our children. Did @BJP4TamilNadu compel the DMK Govt to send a letter to the Central Govt committing that PM Shri would be implemented starting this academic year? We are sure you know that PM Shri has subsumed many aspects of Samagra Siksha, even if you & the part-time school education minister of TN say otherwise in front of the media. Your brother and nephew have been avoiding answering this question. Would you at least care to answer? “Why is the opportunity to learn a third language denied to our government school students when it is provided to students studying in private CBSE/ Matriculation schools, including private schools that your family and your ministers run?”

This sharp yet respectful rebuke came from Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai in response to DMK Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi’s remarks. Kanimozhi had criticized the ASER 2024 report, claiming that the data provided was manipulated and selectively presented. She repeated the familiar rhetoric, accusing the BJP of financially strangling states while failing to implement schemes for receiving funds.

DMK MP Kanimozhi stated, Thiru @annamalai_k, the world knows how BJP manipulates data—Dr. Parakala Prabhakar exposed it in The Crooked Timber of New India: Essays on a Republic in Crisis. BJP thrives on selectively quoting statistics, twisting numbers to fit its propaganda. Your ASER data? We know how it’s cooked up, which is why we’re conducting our own survey on the real impact of education policies. Even your 2025 Economic Survey praised Tamil Nadu for revolutionizing education through landmark schemes like Illam Thedi Kalvi, Ennum Ezhuthum, and the breakfast scheme for schoolchildren. Unlike BJP-ruled states struggling with literacy, we invest in our students’ future. You claim to care about Tamil Nadu’s students—then why has your government withheld ₹2,152 crore in Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds rightfully owed to Tamil Nadu? If you truly care, tell your union government to release these funds instead of preaching to us. You talk about fairness, yet Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) have removed German and other foreign languages while continuing to impose Hindi and Sanskrit, depriving students of global exposure while pushing BJP’s divisive ideological agenda. If you are truly advocating for a three-language policy, give us the data about how many KV schools teach Tamil? Do you even know that many KVs in Tamil Nadu don’t have Tamil teachers? Tamil Nadu will never accept BJP’s agenda of misinformation, financial strangulation, and Hindi imposition.”

The exchange of words between DMK Deputy General Secretary and Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi, and Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai, was sparked by Annamalai’s criticism of Kanimozhi’s brother, Chief Minister MK Stalin. Stalin had raised concerns about the teaching of a third language in Tamil Nadu schools, questioning why students were being denied this opportunity. He stated, “Some guardians of lopsided policies, wailing in great concern, ask, “Why are you denying Tamil Nadu students the opportunity to learn a third language?” Well, why don’t they first say which third language is being taught up north? If they had just taught two languages properly there, where’s the need for us to learn a third?”

In response, Annamalai argued that supporting the new National Education Policy, which aims to create equality in education, was not a “lopsided” stance. He added, “The education system you wish to impose only on our Govt school students forever, while allowing a different standard for private school students, is lopsided. We are surprised that you trimmed our question to suit your convenience. Our question was, “Why is the opportunity to learn a third language denied to our government school students when it is provided to students studying in private CBSE/ Matriculation schools, including private schools that your family and your ministers run?”

Annamalai also expressed surprise at Stalin’s implication that people in northern India are not proficient in English, challenging him to reflect on Tamil Nadu’s own education system. “We are also surprised that you indicate that the people in the north of India are not conversant in English. How conversant are you, Thiru@mkstalin? Thiru @mkstalin, we humbly request you to take time to read the recent ASER Rural 2024 report on the Tamil language proficiency of our students in Class III, V, and VIII before demeaning others for one’s language proficiency as your part-time School Education Minister is living in denial and jeopardising the future of our children.”

Feeling hurt by the pointed criticism and questions by Annamalai aimed at her brother, Chief Minister MK Stalin, Kanimozhi responded to Annamalai’s post, dismissing the ASER data as false and malicious, claiming it portrayed the state in a negative light.

ED Arrests SDPI National President MK Faizy In Terror Outfit PFI-Linked Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested MK Faizy, National President of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), in connection with a money laundering case linked to the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Faizy was apprehended in Bengaluru and later transferred to the ED office in Delhi for interrogation.

It is reported that the arrest follows an ongoing investigation into financial transactions suspected of violating anti-money laundering laws. Officials stated that the move is part of a broader effort to dismantle financial networks linked to extremist activities.

Faizy, a native of Kanthapuram in Kozhikode, Kerala, was detained late Monday (3 March 2025) night at Delhi’s international airport under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). His arrest comes days after an ED raid at his Kerala residence on 28 February 2025 as part of its probe into financial crimes related to PFI.

The Union government banned the PFI and its affiliated organizations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on 28 September 2022, citing alleged involvement in radicalization and terror financing. Prior to the ban, multiple enforcement actions were carried out by the ED, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and state police forces, leading to arrests and the seizure of incriminating documents.

The ED has previously identified SDPI as the “political front” of PFI, a claim the SDPI denies. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Delhi, the SDPI describes itself as an independent political outfit. Faizy, who has been the party’s national president since 2018, is also known as an Islamic scholar and political observer.

Investigative agencies have alleged that Faizy had financial ties with a Kerala-based PFI leader, Abdul Razak BP, who reportedly transferred ₹2 lakh to him as part of fundraising activities. Authorities are now probing whether this transaction was linked to PFI’s financial operations.

The interrogation of Faizy is expected to shed further light on the extent of financial dealings involving the banned outfit and its alleged political affiliations.

19-Year-Old Islamist ISI-Trained Youth Arrested For Plotting Terror Attack On Ram Mandir In Ayodhya

A 19-year-old terror suspect, Abdul Rehman, was arrested for attempting to carry out an attack on the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Authorities revealed that Rehman had been receiving online training from Pakistan’s ISI on operating an AK-47 assault rifle. This arrest followed a detailed investigation, which uncovered Rehman’s radicalization and the guidance he received from ISI operatives.

Rehman was apprehended near Faridabad, Haryana, by a joint team of the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Haryana Special Task Force (STF), and central agencies. Investigators confirmed that he had been trained to use an AK-47, which he planned to use in the attack on the Ram Mandir.

As part of his preparation, Rehman created a wooden AK-47 model before progressing to online tutorials with ISI operatives to learn to operate the weapon. Additionally, he conducted a reconnaissance of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, specifically surveying Gate numbers 1 and 2. Afterward, he traveled to Faridabad, where an ISI handler provided him with two hand grenades.

After his arrest, the grenades were defused, and radical materials were found in his possession. Rehman, who had affiliations with the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), was involved with ISI operatives in planning the attack.

Rehman has been placed in 10-day judicial custody under the Haryana STF, and further investigations into his connections and the larger terror network are ongoing.

VCK’s Vanniarasu Claims Vijay’s Y-Security Was Due To ‘Muslim Threat’

A political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu over the Centre’s decision to grant Y-category security to actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay, following claims that the security was sought due to alleged threats from the Muslim community.

The controversy began after VCK spokesman Vanniarasu alleged that TVK requested security cover fearing threats from Muslims over the actor’s portrayal of the community in his films Kaththi and Beast. “Vijay and TVK believed the actor might face threats from Muslims and sought protection from the Home Ministry,” Vanniarasu told The Times of India. However, he admitted that he did not have a copy of the request letter but cited a reliable police source.

TVK propaganda wing joint secretary I. Thahira strongly refuted the claim, stating, “Muslims hold key positions in TVK, and our leader (Vijay) has openly opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) while supporting Muslims. Vanniarasu’s statement is insulting as it suggests Muslims have intent to harm politicians in the state.”

Backing TVK’s stance, Tamil Nadu Muslim League (TNML) founding president V.M.S. Mustafa dismissed the claims as a political ploy by DMK and its allies to damage Vijay’s standing among Muslim voters. “This is a planned campaign to portray Vijay as an enemy of the Muslims and divert their support to the DMK alliance. No letter was submitted by Vijay or TVK seeking security,” Mustafa asserted.

The controversy comes as TVK attempts to establish itself as a political force in Tamil Nadu, ahead of upcoming elections. Vijay, who recently launched his party, has positioned himself as a challenger to the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK. The granting of Y-category security, which typically includes Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) protection, has now become a focal point in the ongoing political battle in the state.
