India And China Review Situation Along LAC, Early Resumption Of Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra On Cards

India and China on Tuesday comprehensively reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas and early resumption of cross-border cooperation – including on trans-border rivers and Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra – during the 33rd meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) held in Beijing.

The Indian delegation was led by Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary (East Asia) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) while Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Chinese delegation. The meeting, the MEA said, was held in a “positive” and “constructive” atmosphere.

“Peace and tranquility on the border are critical for the smooth development of overall bilateral relations. The two sides explored various measures and proposals to give effect to the decisions taken during the 23rd meeting of the Special Representatives on the India-China boundary question in Beijing in December 2024 and to advance effective border management,” read a MEA statement issued after the meeting.

“The two sides agreed to maintain and strengthen relevant diplomatic and military mechanisms towards this end. They also exchanged views on early resumption of cross-border cooperation and exchanges, including on trans-border rivers and Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra,” it added. During the meeting, both countries agreed to work together to make substantial preparation for the next meeting of the Special Representatives (SR), which will be held in India later this year.

The Indian delegation leader also paid a courtesy call on China’s Assistant Foreign Minister Hong Lei. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had visited Beijing on January 26-27 for a meeting of the Foreign Secretary-Vice Foreign Minister mechanism between both countries, following which both countries announced their decision to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025.

The meeting was held to review the state of India-China bilateral relations, as agreed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during their meeting in Kazan, last October. During their discussions, Foreign Secretary Misri and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong agreed to take certain people-centric steps to stabilise and rebuild ties.

Both sides also agreed, in principle, to resume direct air services between the two countries with the relevant technical authorities on the two sides to negotiate an updated framework for the purpose at an early date.

Dravidian Model School: History-Sheeter Dances For Film Songs At Govt School In Tirupattur

The school education department, which swiftly sprung into action against spiritual/motivational speaker Mahavishnu—having him arrested after he delivered a speech on rebirth, karma, and philosophy at a government school—has now remained conspicuously silent following the emergence of a viral video showing a known history-sheeter performing ‘cinema songs’ at another government school event.

The event took place at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Kilkanrayanapalli, under Thuthipattu Panchayat near Ambur in Tirupattur district. The school’s annual day celebration was held on the night of 22 March, featuring various cultural performances, including dance and singing competitions for students.

Thuthipattu’s DMK Panchayat President Suvita Ganesh attended the function as the chief guest and distributed prizes to the students. Additionally, her husband, Ganesh, was also present at the event. He took to the stage and performed a film song, entertaining the audience. However, controversy arose over how an individual with a history of theft and multiple past arrests with pending cases in states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka was allowed to participate in the annual function of a government middle school, raising concerns about the invitation of someone with a criminal background to a school event.

Locals In Sivaganga Detain Missionary Preachers Indulging In Proselytization, Police Release Without Action

A surprising incident unfolded in Ilanthangudi village near Sivaganga when three individuals engaged in religious preaching were detained by local youths and handed over to the police, only to be released without any action taken against them.

These individuals were distributing booklets with messages such as “Merry Christmas. May your sorrow turn to joy,” at a time when schoolchildren were already on summer break. Concerned by their activities, a group of youths apprehended them and reported them to the authorities.

However, a police officer let the three individuals go without issuing any warning, leading to a heated exchange between the youths and the officer. Despite their objections, the policeman dismissed their concerns and allowed the individuals to leave, leaving the youths stunned by the lack of action.

She also hit out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for extending benefits of welfare schemes to ineligible individuals, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.

SFI Goons Attack Police At Dharmambal Polytechnic College For Women In Chennai

A protest by the left-wing student organization, Students’ Federation of India (SFI), at Dharmambal Government Polytechnic for Women in Taramani turned chaotic when students clashed with the police. Viral footage from the incident shows SFI protestors grabbing police officers by their collars and shirts.

The demonstration was sparked by allegations that a female student had been gang-raped by seven individuals. Reports suggest that after learning of the incident, the college administration issued a transfer certificate to the student and sent her away instead of supporting her. In response, SFI organized a protest, demanding justice for the victim.

During the protest, tensions escalated as students attempted to lay siege to the principal’s office. A scuffle broke out between the students and the police, leading to physical altercations from both sides.

Allegations And Investigation

It is alleged that the student had developed a relationship with a man named Rajesh through Instagram. Rajesh reportedly coerced her into handing over her jewelry and later took her to an undisclosed location, where she was sexually assaulted. On the night of 20 March, the student left her hostel and returned the following day.

Reports claim that Rajesh and his associate, Jayakumar, assaulted the victim while under the influence of alcohol. The incident has been reported to the authorities, and the Taramani police have launched an investigation. However, instead of taking action against the alleged perpetrators, it is reported that the college administration expelled the victim and two others accompanied the victim in the case.

Uncertainty remains about whether the student was indeed gang-raped or if other circumstances led to her dismissal. The police have yet to issue a clear statement on the matter.

SFI strongly condemned the college’s decision, accusing the administration of victim-blaming rather than ensuring justice. The student group demanded accountability and fair treatment for the affected student, criticizing the authorities for their alleged inaction. The protest, however, escalated into a violent confrontation with the police, further intensifying the controversy surrounding the case.

Escalating Murders & Revenge Killings: Law And Order Goes For A Toss In Dravidian Model Tamil Nadu

Crime in Tamil Nadu has been escalating daily, with history-sheeters, rowdies, and land-grabbing gangs brazenly committing murders, making such violence disturbingly commonplace. This surge in crime comes even as the DMK government claims a decline in criminal activities compared to the previous year.

What was once limited to hardened criminals has now expanded to include college students and even minors, who have been arrested for their involvement in gang-related murders. This alarming trend has instilled fear among residents and given rise to concerns from opposition parties. However, instead of taking decisive action to curb these violent incidents, the government and police appear more focused on silencing dissenting voices. Many have accused law enforcement of prioritizing the arrests of activists and opposition leaders critical of the ruling party rather than tackling the growing criminal menace.

Is Tamil Nadu facing a law and order crisis? Recent gruesome murders across multiple districts—many carried out in broad daylight suggest that the state has not just approached a crisis but has already crossed that threshold. If stringent action is not taken immediately, the situation may spiral beyond control. Below are some of the shocking incidents that have taken place in recent days.

Murder Of Retired SI Zakir Hussain Bijli

A retired police officer Zakir Hussain who previously served in the security wing of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was brutally murdered in Tirunelveli. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Zakir Hussain Bijli (58), a resident of Totti Balatheru in Tirunelveli, was a Muttawalli (caretaker of Waqf property) of the Murdeen Jahan Taikka descendants. Zakir Hussain, a retired assistant inspector, had served in the Tamil Nadu police for 25 years before opting for voluntary retirement. Notably, he was part of former CM Karunanidhi’s security team and later worked under current CM M.K. Stalin when the latter was Chennai’s Mayor and Minister for Rural Development & Local Administration.

On the morning of 18 March 2025, while returning home after offering prayers at the Samiya Thaika mosque during Ramzan fasting, Zakir was attacked near the Town Kajah Beedi office. Unknown assailants, armed with sickles, fatally struck him on the head before fleeing the scene. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Police officials arrived shortly after being informed and have since been reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators. Two individuals have surrendered in connection with the crime, while further investigations continue. Zakir Hussain is survived by his wife Ajines Nisha, son Isir Rahman (working in Malaysia), and daughter Mosiza Piyas.

Motive Behind Murder

Authorities suspect that a long-standing land dispute over a Waqf land may have played a role in the killing. Reports indicate that Zakir had ongoing tensions with a local youth, Toufiq, who had converted to Islam and was allegedly involved in a dispute over a 30-cent waqf property. Zakir had previously been arrested under the Protection of Civil Rights (PCR) Act and Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act concerning this matter but was out on bail. The disagreement escalated as Zakir had been actively gathering details related to the property. Both Zakir and Toufiq had previously lodged complaints against each other over the land issue.

The dispute is said to have stemmed from a plot of land adjacent to Zakir’s property, which was owned by Toufiq’s wife. Zakir allegedly occupied the land, asserting that it was Waqf property, whereas Toufiq’s family maintained that it had been privately gifted to her by her mother. The conflict intensified over time and is believed to have culminated in Zakir’s murder.

The police confirmed that Zakir had built a shed on the disputed land, leading to legal cases between both parties. Officials also revealed that a case was registered against Zakir in January 2025. The murder is being treated as a result of the prolonged civil dispute over the property.

The police are investigating whether the attack was linked to this dispute or had other motives. The incident has heightened tensions in the Tirunelveli Town and Pettai areas, prompting heavy police deployment.

Following his murder, a February 2025 video recorded by Zakir resurfaced, in which he claimed his life was in danger. In the video, Zakir alleged that around 20 to 30 individuals were threatening him, singling out Toufiq as the primary instigator. He accused Toufiq of using his conversion for financial gain, alleging that he had married a woman after pressuring her to divorce her first husband to acquire land. Zakir also accused two police officers—Inspector Gopalakrishnan and Sub-Inspector Senthil Kumar—of ignoring his complaints and enabling threats against him.

Following the broad daylight murder of the former SI, his son, Ijur Rahman Bijli, released a video claiming that unidentified individuals were monitoring his home and that he could be the next target. His statement sparked outrage and widespread concern.

Murder Of Former GCC Staff & DMK Union Leader Kumar

A 71-year-old retired Chennai Corporation employee and DMK-affiliated union leader, Kumar from Ayanavaram, was brutally murdered over a land dispute involving property worth several crores.

The primary suspect, Urappakkam Ravi, along with two accomplices, allegedly kidnapped Kumar, strangled him inside a moving vehicle, and later buried his body in a cashew grove in the Gingee forest area of Viluppuram district.

Kumar, who had previously served as a personal assistant to former DMK MP C. Kuppusamy, was managing a prime plot of land near Chennai’s ECR Road on behalf of a relative residing in Mumbai. The dispute arose when Ravi, a local land broker, allegedly forged documents to claim ownership. Following Kumar’s police complaint, authorities in Tambaram confirmed the rightful ownership of his relative, which reportedly enraged Ravi and prompted his violent retaliation.

On 16 March, Ravi persuaded Kumar to meet him in Tambaram under the guise of discussing the land issue. Kumar, who traveled from Ayanavaram by auto, met Ravi and his two associates near the bus stand. They forced him into a car and drove along the Chennai-Tiruchy National Highway. Near Chengalpattu, a heated argument ensued, leading to Kumar being assaulted and strangled with a rope. The suspects transported his body to Gingee, buried it in a secluded area, and returned to Urappakkam.

When Kumar failed to return home, his family filed a missing person report with Tambaram police. Investigators traced his last phone activity, revealing his final contact with Ravi. Upon interrogation, Ravi admitted to the murder and disclosed the burial site. Based on his confession, the police arrested Ravi and later apprehended his accomplices, Senthilkumar and Vijay, in Poonamallee. Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine if additional suspects were involved.

This case underscores the growing issue of land disputes, document forgery, and violent conflicts in Chennai’s rapidly developing outskirts.

Revenge Killing: Brutal Murder Of John In Salem

Yet another shocking act of violence in Salem, a known history-sheeter was brutally murdered in broad daylight on the Salem-Nasiyanur highway while traveling with his wife. The horrific attack, captured on camera, showed bystanders frozen in fear as the assailants ruthlessly hacked him to death.

The victim, 35-year-old Chanakya, also known as John, was a resident of Periyapalayam in Tiruppur. He had multiple criminal cases registered against him in several Salem police stations and was engaged in vehicle sales and loan services.

On 19 March 2025, after attending an inquiry at the Annadhanapatti police station, John was on his way home when a car started tailing him. As he neared Nasiyanur, the vehicle rammed into his car from behind, forcing him to a stop.

Four armed men emerged, dragged his wife Saranya aside, and launched a vicious assault, slashing John repeatedly with machetes. Despite Saranya’s desperate cries for help, the attackers showed no mercy, leaving John dead on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Sithodu police rushed to the location, transported John’s body to Perundurai Government Hospital for postmortem, and launched an investigation. The police soon tracked down three suspects—Sarish, Saravanan, and Bhoopalan—who were intercepted, shot, and arrested. The fourth accused, Karthik, was later apprehended.

Ironically, this incident occurred just as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed the Legislative Assembly on 20 March 2025, stating that the state had recorded 1,540 murders in 2024—the lowest annual count in the past 12 years. He credited this decline to the effective measures implemented by the police department.

Chennai Double Murder Linked To Ganja Trade Dispute

In yet another revenge killing in Chennai, a gang led by Sukku Kaapi Suresh brutally murdered Arun Kumar (25) and Padappai Suresh (25) on the night of 16 March 2025. The killings were the culmination of an ongoing feud between Arun Kumar and Sukku Kaapi Suresh over the latter’s alleged involvement in recruiting minors to sell ganja, which had previously led to violent confrontations between them.

The conflict took a darker turn in 2022 when Arun Kumar’s partner, Shahinshah—a widow and mother of two—was found strangled to death in her Kelambakkam residence. Suspecting Sukku Kaapi Suresh’s hand in the murder, Arun Kumar had vowed revenge. However, before he could act, Sukku Kaapi Suresh preemptively orchestrated his assassination along with that of his friend.

Following the double murder, police launched an extensive investigation, leading to the arrest of Sukku Kaapi Suresh and seven others on 17 March. On 21 March, authorities apprehended two more individuals—K. Anand of Kottivakkam and M. Karthik for assisting the main accused. The ongoing probe has resulted in a total of 14 arrests so far, including four minors allegedly involved in the crime.

Brutal Murder of Vasool Raja in Kancheepuram

In a crime reminiscent of the recent Salem murder, a 30-year-old man with a criminal history was brutally killed in Kancheepuram after a gang targeted him with a country-made bomb on 11 March 2025.

Vasool Raja, a resident of Poyyakulam, had an extensive criminal history with over 20 cases related to robbery, theft, and attempted murder across multiple police jurisdictions. Recently out on bail, he had been working as a travel agent.

Around 1 p.m., while waiting outside a ration shop near Thirukkali Medu Shiva Temple, he was ambushed by unidentified attackers. A country-made bomb struck his chest and exploded on impact, killing him instantly.

Following the incident, Kancheepuram Taluk police transported his body to the Government Kancheepuram Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities launched a full-scale investigation, assigning a special police team led by two Assistant Deputy Superintendents to track down the perpetrators.

Analyzing CCTV footage from the crime scene, investigators identified key suspects. By Friday, a special police team arrested five college students—Raman, Siva, Dhilip Kumar, Surya, and Suresh—near Thirumalpur railway station.

Further operations led to the arrests of Zaheer Hussain and Sulthan at Iyappettai bus stop, followed by Mohana Sundaram, Manimaran, and Saran Kumar on 22 March. Police reported that four of the accused sustained fractures while attempting to evade capture. Officials are still searching for two more suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Zaheer Hussain orchestrated Vasool Raja’s murder as an act of revenge for the 2018 killing of his uncle, Niwas Khan, in which Raja was a prime suspect. All arrested individuals were presented before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Dravidian Model Law & Order Crumbling

The escalating crime wave in Tamil Nadu paints a grim picture of law and order in the state. From politically connected murders to gang rivalries and land disputes ending in brutal killings, the rising violence has instilled fear among residents and exposed the apparent failure of law enforcement. Despite the government’s claims of reduced crime rates, the ground reality tells a different story—one where criminals operate with impunity while authorities focus more on political crackdowns than public safety. If swift and decisive action is not taken, Tamil Nadu risks further descending into lawlessness, where violence becomes the norm rather than the exception.

AIADMK’s Palaniswami To Meet Home Minister Amit Shah In Delhi

eps amit shah alliance bjp aiadmk

In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) is set to travel to Delhi on Tuesday evening to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. EPS will be accompanied by former minister and key party leader from western Tamil Nadu, S.P. Velusamy.

AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Sathyan confirmed to the media that EPS is heading to the national capital to meet Amit Shah but declined to provide further details on the purpose of the visit. The AIADMK and BJP were alliance partners during the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the BJP secured four seats under the arrangement.

However, the alliance was severed on September 21, 2023, following tensions that arose after K. Annamalai took over as the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the AIADMK and BJP contested separately, forming individual alliances. Both parties suffered major setbacks, while the DMK-led coalition swept all the seats.

The breakdown in relations was largely attributed to Annamalai’s leadership, with AIADMK leaders accusing him of undermining the spirit of the alliance. Senior AIADMK figures have publicly stated that Annamalai lacked the political maturity and respect shown by previous BJP state presidents, particularly in acknowledging AIADMK’s leadership role in the state coalition.

Tensions peaked when Annamalai, in a media interview before the split, made a controversial remark referring to the late AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s conviction in a corruption case.

The AIADMK leaders viewed the statement as a grave insult and subsequently passed a strongly worded resolution condemning Annamalai, citing his inexperience and lack of political acumen.

With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections just over a year away, political observers are closely watching the moves. Both parties now face the challenge of overcoming past differences to pose a united front against the ruling DMK.

Japan Raises Concern Over Longest Chinese Intrusion Near Senkaku Islands

Japan has raised serious concerns over the recent, and one of the longest, intrusion by the Chinese Coast Guard ships in the Tokyo-controlled, Beijing-claimed islets in the East China Sea. Marking the longest intrusion in the territorial waters of Japan, Chinese Coast Guard ships left on Monday night after sailing for 92 hours and 8 minutes near the disputed Senkaku islands.

The amount of activity by Chinese vessels near the Senkaku Islands is “clearly escalating,” Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said on Monday. His remarks came as the Chinese Coast Guard ships continued to operate within Japan’s territorial seas near the uninhabited islands since the early hours of Friday, reports the leading Japanese news agency, Kyodo News.

Iwaya also told a Diet committee session that during his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday in Tokyo, he conveyed the concerns of Japan about the presence of the Chinese ships. Meanwhile, an opposition Japanese lawmaker questioned Iwaya relating to this at the parliamentary session. The opposition leader said that the Chinese ships’ intrusion taking place during the bilateral foreign ministerial talks of both the nations was “extremely inappropriate.”

In response, Iwaya said that the meeting took place in “a conciliatory and friendly atmosphere,” but it is “truly regrettable” that the intrusion happened. “So we will deal with this issue in a resolute and calm manner,” Iwaya added. The dispute over the Senkaku Islands between Japan, China, and Taiwan is several decades old. The group of tiny, uninhabited islets and rocks in the East China Sea is administered by Japan.

It is referred to as the Senkaku Islands in Japan, the Diaoyu Islands in China, and the Diaoyutai Islands in Taiwan. Senkaku has strategic significance as it is close to important shipping lanes, offers rich fishing grounds and has the potential of oil reserves. It has also become a proxy battlefield in the growing Sino-US tussle for influence in the Indo-Pacific. Japan remains a key ally of the US. Japan has consistently maintained that there has never been any agreement with China to “shelve” issues regarding the Senkaku Islands.

“The assertion that such an agreement exists directly contradicts China’s actions to change the status quo through force or coercion. In 1992, China enacted the Law on the Territorial Sea and the Contiguous Zone, explicitly delineating its claim over the islands as part of Chinese territory. Since 2008, China has been sending government ships to the waters off the Senkaku Islands, and has repeatedly made incursions into Japanese territorial waters,” maintains the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

CM Rekha Gupta Presents ₹1 Lakh Crore Budget For Delhi, Says ‘Largest Ever’

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the first budget of the newly elected BJP government in the capital on Tuesday. Terming the Budget 2025-26 as historic, the Chief Minister announced Rs 1 lakh crore Budget, which is the largest budget in the history of the national capital.

Presenting the Budget in the Assembly, CM Rekha Gupta said, “This is a historic day as this is not just any Budget. The people of Delhi and the country are waiting to see how the government, which was elected by the public with a historic mandate, will present its first Budget.”

“This Budget is not just a presentation of government expenses but a Budget to bring turnaround in city’s fortunes and align it on the path of Viksit Delhi. This Budget is focused on making Delhi, a Sangam of glorious history and bright future,” she added.

CM Rekha Gupta said that the Budget is based on the principles of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ resolution.

Taking aim at the previous AAP-led Delhi government, the Chief minister said, “It is unfortunate that in the last 10 years, Delhi kept sliding back in every aspect of development,” citing the examples of unrepaired roads, drainage system, pollution etc. “The previous government acted like a termite for the economy of Delhi,” she added, stating that Delhi Jal Board, DTC and many other government institutions were running into losses. CM Rekha termed the situation as a challenge for the new government.

Earlier in morning, Chief Minister Gupta said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP is presenting the Delhi Budget after 27 years. “Just as Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile, we are returning after 27 years,” she added.

News 18 Tamil Nadu Peddles Half-Truth: Falsely Claims ‘Zero’ Tamil Teachers In Kendriya Vidyalayas Despite Official Data Confirming 24

In yet another bid to buttress the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, the news channel News 18 Tamil Nadu has been caught spreading misleading information to align with the DMK’s narrative that the central government is targeting the state. In its latest claim, the channel falsely reported that there are “zero Tamil teachers in Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) schools in Tamil Nadu,” despite official parliamentary records confirming that 24 Tamil teachers are currently employed in these schools.

On 24 March 2025, News 18 Tamil Nadu published a post claiming, “Number of Tamil teachers in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Tamil Nadu – 0. DMK Parliamentary Chairperson, Kanimozhi posted on X.” The post included a news card highlighting that, “The answer given by the central government to the question of the number of permanent teachers appointed to teach Tamil in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Tamil Nadu is “0”; but it says that there are 86 teachers to teach Hindi and 65 teachers to teach Sanskrit. BJP government, has the Constitution defined Hindi or Sanskrit as the national language or is that the nationalism that the BJP wants to build? Which mother tongue are you protecting or teaching through Kendriya Vidyalaya schools? The DMK has been opposing this imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit in the guise of a three-language policy for a long time.”

During a Lok Sabha session on 24 March 2025, DMK Deputy General Secretary and Thoothukkudi MP Kanimozhi raised questions regarding the implementation of the three-language formula in schools across India. She sought details on:

(a) The languages taught under the policy in different states, along with state-wise data.
(b) The number of students enrolled in these languages.
(c) The number of students studying non-Hindi Indian languages in Hindi-speaking states.
(d) The current number of Tamil, Hindi, and Sanskrit teachers in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Tamil Nadu.
(e) Whether KVs have any plans to teach students in their mother tongues.
(f) If such plans exist, their details; if not, the reasons for their absence.

In response Minister of State for Education, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, addressed these concerns, stating:

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 upholds the three-language formula, ensuring no language is imposed on any state. The choice of languages remains with the states, regions, and students, provided at least two of the three are Indian languages. Students can switch one or more languages in Grade 6 or 7, as long as they attain basic proficiency in three languages by the end of secondary school. The National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) has been developed to guide the implementation of NEP 2020’s language policies. A state-wise report on schools offering one, two, or three languages, along with student enrollment numbers, has been annexed.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Language Policies in Tamil Nadu

Kendriya Vidyalayas operate under a uniform education policy and officially sanction Hindi, English, and Sanskrit as language subjects. However, students in Classes VI to VIII can opt for other languages under Article 112 of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Education Code, provided at least 15 students enroll. In such cases, part-time contractual teachers can be hired. Currently, 24 Tamil teachers are engaged on a part-time contractual basis in Kendriya Vidyalayas across Tamil Nadu. Additionally, Tamil is taught in 21 Kendriya Vidyalayas through the Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA), an initiative by the Tamil Nadu government. At present, there are 86 Hindi teachers and 65 Sanskrit teachers in KVs across Tamil Nadu.

Despite official data confirming that 24 Tamil teachers are engaged on a part-time contractual basis in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across Tamil Nadu, and that Tamil is taught in 21 KVs through the Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA), News 18 Tamil Nadu conveniently omitted these details. Instead, the channel, which has been accused of favoring the ruling DMK government, falsely reported that “0” Tamil teachers were employed in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Excerpt from Parliamentary answer reads, “Kendriya Vidyalayas are “specified category” schools as defined in Right to Education (RTE) Act and have been established with a mandate to have a uniform scheme of education. Therefore, the sanctioned posts of language teachers are that of Hindi, English and Sanskrit. However, there is an enabling provision for teaching of other languages for the willing students between classes VI to VIII vide Art 112 of the Education Code for Kendriya Vidyalaya. As per this provision, a teacher can be engaged on part time contractual basis if 15 or more students opt for it. The teachers engaged in Kendriya Vidyalayas on part time contractual basis for teaching of Tamil as opted by the students is 24. Additionally, learning of Tamil language in 21 KVs is being undertaken through Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA), an autonomous organization under Tamil Nadu State for the students interested in learning of the language. There are 86 Hindi and 65 Sanskrit faculty working in the state of Tamil Nadu at present.”
