New feature to save battery life from Google Chrome

Google Chrome will be introducing a new feature that will save up to two hours of battery life when multiple tabs are open at once.

According to Mashable, the company plans to limit battery consumption by limiting JavaScript timer wake ups in background tabs. This new experimental feature is to be rolled out with Chrome 86 and can be accessed through chrome://flags.

The JavaScript timers are used by the pages at intervals to track various actions on a web page. The timer interval is studied to save battery life. However, when pages are in the background these timers do not matter.

According to tests carried by Google (results-oriented by TheWindowsClub), doing so extends battery by almost two hours when 36 background pages are open and active tab is blank. But as having active tab blank does not accurately reflect a normal usage scenario, Google also tested by running YouTube on the active tab and disabling screen dimming (energy-saving mode).

With the same situation of 36 pages open in the background, the battery life was extended by about half an hour or 13%. While this might not make much difference in laptops with good battery life, it will surely help in the laptops which are poor in battery life.

The Mad King: Amidst global angst, Xi Jinping resorts to these stunts to amass more power at home

Chinese President Xi Jinping stares at the biggest crisis in his career both at home and outside. Public angst across the globe has been rising against China for unleashing the Wuhan virus. Apart from this, it has gone on to unleash a reign of terror in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Xinjiang.

In between this the Chinese army shot itself in the foot at the Galwan valley. China did not even officially acknowledge the soldiers lost on its side making the lives of those soldiers worthless. In the process, China lost a not just the thriving Indian market but also its trust. It has lost the goodwill of the Indians gained from the Chennai Connect and Wuhan Spirit.

On the other hand, it has been facing backlash from countries across the globe over its new national security law that has made Hong Kong a boiling pot.

All this has resulted in public opinion both within and outside China, turn against the mad king Xi Jinping. In light of this Xi Jinping has resorted to the usual tactics of the Communist playbook.

Jinping has taken two big measures to make sure that there is no dissent to his decisions within his own country.  He has created a special task force that keeps a check on domestic political activity that “handles disputes and unrest stemming from the coronavirus pandemic”. He has claimed that this measure was taken to “maintain social stability”.

A professor who spoke against Xi Jinping was arrested and his present whereabouts remains unknown.

Along with this, he is also trying to acquire absolute control over the country’s People’s Liberation Army. He is already the chief of the Central Military Commission (CMC), which makes all the defence related decisions. He has now placed the reserve military force under a Communist Party and CMC. Earlier, it was reported that all senior officials will be subjected to an “economic responsibility audit”, a performance-related evaluation process through which officers can be dismissed.

This means that in China all roads lead to the mad king Xi Jinping.

India, US to work towards free, open, and peaceful Indo-Pacific Region

India and the US have strengthened their commitment to work towards “ensuring a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific”. They also agreed on the need to deepen cooperation at the United Nations, especially on the matter of India’s membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Foreign Minister Harsh Vardhan Shringla and the US under Secretary of the State of Political Affairs David Hale discussed yesterday on the various regional and global issues of common interest during the virtual foreign office consultations between the two countries. They reviewed the entire range of engagements under the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, including political, economic, commercial, regional, and international cooperation.

They agreed to further strengthen the bilateral health partnership, including on pharmaceuticals and vaccine development considering the COVID-19 pandemic. Both have agreed to be in contact and move forward on the bilateral agenda through a range of mechanisms like the 22 ministerial that India will host later this year.

Mr. Shringla and Mr. Hales also discussed about the ways to further enhance mutually beneficial trade and people-to-people ties, including through visa facilitation for students and professionals. This comes in the light of President Donald Trump announcing to roll back student visas of F1 and M1 categories. This issue of students with F-1 visas attending only online classes was also discussed. The US side took a note said they will keep the best interests of students in mind and mitigate the impact. The detailed implementation guidelines are yet to be finalized.

Trump calls Harvard University’s decision “ridiculous”

United States President Donald Trump lashed out at Harvard University for shifting courses online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

During a White House roundtable discussion, he called for schools and universities to reopen for the next semester.

He said Harvard University’s decision was ridiculous. “I think it’s an easy way out. And I think they ought to be ashamed of themselves,” he said.

He has made a confident decision to reopen activities even when the coronavirus continues to alarmingly infect people in the United States of America.

“Everybody wants it. The moms want it. The dads want it. The kids want it. It’s time to do it. We want to get our schools open, we want to get them open quickly, beautifully, in the fall,” he added.

Trump’s administration said that it would not allow foreign students to remain in the United States if their classes moved online amid the pandemic.

Many schools are looking at a combination of in-person and online classes but some such as Harvard have decided to completely go online for their courses.

40 percent of undergraduates of the Cambridge University would be allowed to return to campus but their instruction would be conducted remotely.

The United States is currently the hardest-hit country in the global pandemic with 1,608,359 active cases and 66,868 total deaths. 1,117,922 cases have recovered.

IPAC-DMK modus operandi exposed: Recruits gullible college students as ‘interns’ to identify influencers and create pro-DMK narrative, shocking details inside

The DMK has on-boarded Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) as its political consultant/strategist for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021. For this purpose, the DMK has shelled out hundreds of crores to I-PAC, a corporate firm headed by Prashant Kishor who was earlier expelled from JD (U) for anti-party activities. Commoners and many ground level DMK workers have pointed out the brazen hypocrisy as DMK, a party that is anti-Brahmin, anti-Hindu and anti-Hindi has brought the services of a Bihari Brahmin. The DMK chief MK Stalin and I-PAC head Prashant Kishor have already become the butt of jokes with memes flooding the internet.

Now, shocking evidence has emerged on the modus operandi of IPAC that recruits gullible college students in every district as interns to shore up cadres and support for the DMK.

IPAC has been constantly putting out announcements regarding recruitment for its Tamil Nadu unit. Those interested fill in the application form at IPAC’s website. Candidates’ educational and professional information are taken who are then contacted through phone by the IPAC team. Across Tamil Nadu, fresh graduates and college student are targeted and recruited as ‘interns’.

In the audio that has been exposed on social media, a female caller identifying herself as belonging to IPAC calls up a person and can be heard asking if he has a laptop and knows Tamil typing. She says that it is 2 month internship offer and ₹12,000 would be paid as stipend per month. Once recruited, they are given training through Zoom video calling software (considering the pandemic) about their tasks. These interns are supposed to call ‘potential influencers’ in their area to get their support for DMK. From the conversation in the audio, it can be understood that there are interns who also go to the field to identify and rope in influencers too.

Speaking of labour exploitation, the interns are made to call umpteen numbers with no fixed ceiling. The IPAC team member can be heard saying that a set number of influencers have to be identified and it doesn’t matter if one makes 10 calls or 50 calls. The DMK and their Communist friends, who give lectures on exploitation of labour, are right now engaging a corporate company that exploits the labour of poor college students for a meagre amount of ₹12,000.

The intern (a student of SRM college), when asked about if he would like to continue the internship by his supervisor (Gokul), can be heard saying that he finds it difficult to make calls and adds that he has to put up with misbehaviour from callers on the other end. He says that he has been asked to make a minimum of 20 calls per day and get the contact details of influencers in his area. He also says that these numbers are not provided by IPAC but he himself has to call people randomly to ask if the person knows someone who had extended help during the COVID19 lockdown so that they can be asked to give their support for DMK.

This particular intern was asked to approach people in the village areas to identify such people. He can heard saying to his supervisor that people hesitated to share details and asked about whom he was and where did he get their numbers from.

During the Zoom training, interns are told to tell people that they got numbers from their professor/friends. The supervisor tells him that it is not necessary to quote friends/professor but can also say that they got the numbers from the field team who had come for the survey. They are asked to gauge the mindset and interest of the caller in the call and proceed with them on the basis of that.

So, it becomes clear that I-PAC has two teams of interns – one that makes phone-calls to recruit influencers and other that goes into the field to gather such information.

The intern further adds that he never mentions in his calls about I-PAC or that he is engaged in pro-DMK activities.

He tells to the supervisor (Gokul) that he has been told by his team head to leave out those who are part of ADMK, BJP and Congress as well or their sympathizer but look for fence-sitters. He says that he has been trying to approach small community based parties on that basis. The supervisor can be heard intervening to say that he should not approach persons in the area who are offering help officially through their party but can approach those who are other party members but are not active in the party. The intern also says that Congress party is not involved in any such helping activities.

The intern asks if he will be getting a job within Tamil Nadu after this internship to which the supervisor Gokul can be heard saying he himself does not have a clue about what will happen after elections. Finally, the intern asks if this his number (supervisor’s number) as he says that he received a Truecaller notification that said “Thalaivar office” when he was on another call. The supervisor says that he had called from Stalin’s office before.

This is how IPAC and DMK are recruiting gullible college students and youngsters in the name of providing internship for their mission. They are made to call random numbers to identify and rope in influencers who support the DMK’s activities. The DMK-IPAC combo is exploiting the economic vulnerabilities of these youngsters for political propaganda.

This serious issue has not been highlighted by any mainstream Tamil or national media. This daylight exploitation of young minds has to be stopped in the interest of these students and the future of Tamil Nadu.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tests positive for coronavirus

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, after having consistently belittled the effect that the pandemic has caused. He took his fourth test on Monday after developing symptoms. He has been receiving backlash all over the world for calling it the ‘little flu’, and now, for having walked out of the hospital without a mask even after testing positive.

He made the announcement in a TV interview on Tuesday, saying the fever he had been experiencing had gone down and that he felt “very well”. Mr Bolsonaro said that he had started experiencing symptoms on Sunday. He said he had had a high temperature, a cough, and had felt unwell. He told reporters that he underwent a lung X-ray on Monday after experiencing fever, muscle aches, and malaise. As of Tuesday, his fever had subsided, he said, and he attributed the improvement to hydroxychloroquine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wished him a speedy recovery. He had also tweeted in Portugese, the official language of Brazil. He had been previously thanked by Bolsonaro after he had eased restrictions for shipments of hydroxychloroquine and compared the move to Lord Hanuman and Sanjeevani booti (herb) in the epic Ramayana.

Brazil stands second in the world in terms of coronavirus cases, only next to the US. The death toll is at 66,868, while the number of cases has crossed 1.67 million.

Is COVID-19 airborne?

Nurse wearing respirator mask holding a positive blood test result for the new rapidly spreading Coronavirus, originating in Wuhan, China

The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledged evidence of the airborne spread of COVID-19 after a Geneva-based agency outlined evidence showing how floating virus particles can infect people who breathe them. The agency urged the WHO to update its guidelines.

According to WHO the virus primarily spreads through small droplets expelled from an infected person’s mouth or nose. Although they acknowledged that there is emerging evidence of COVID-19 being airborne, they say the evidence is not definitive.

Airborne transmission is different from droplet transmission as it refers to the presence of microbes within droplet nuclei that can remain in the air for long periods of time and be transmitted to others over distances greater than 1m.

They are aware of other studies that are evaluating the presence of the virus in air samples. However, most are not yet published in peer-reviewed journals. According to WHO, the detection of ribonucleic acid (RNA) in environmental samples is not indicative of a viable virus that could be transmissible.

Further studies are needed to determine whether it is possible to detect the COVID-19 virus in air samples.

Based on the available evidence, WHO continues to recommend droplet and contact precautions for those people caring for COVID-19 patients. WHO continues to recommend airborne precautions for circumstances and settings in which aerosol-generating procedures and support treatment are performed.

Here’s what CBSE removed from the syllabus

Many students across the country have not been able to go to school due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions and have taken advantage of the virtual classroom facility to resume classes. Nonetheless, it has had a significant effect on academics.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was asked by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to reduce the syllabus for classes 9 to 12 by 30%.

“Considering the importance of learning achievement, it has been decided to rationalize the syllabus up to 30 percent by retaining the core concepts,” the HRD minister wrote in a tweet. “Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, #CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class 9th to 12th,” said the HRD Minister.

As part of this move, the CBSE has decided to scrap chapters on federalism, citizenship, nationalism, and secularism from the political science curriculum of Class 11 and topics of India’s relation with its neighbors, along with sections on social movements, regional aspirations, the changing nature of India’s economic development, and the Planning Commission for Class 12.

The concept of demonetization, Goods and Services Tax, and the impact of government policy changes on business with special reference to liberalization, privatization and globalization in India will be removed for Business Studies students.

In History, students will not study chapters on understanding partition, or on peasants, zamindars, and the State.

Besides, sub-topics such as ‘Why do we need Local Governments?’ and ‘Growth of Local Government in India’ have also been scrapped. However, teachers are recommended to explain these topics for the relevance of existing topics.

“However, the reduced syllabus will not be part of the topics for Internal Assessment and year-end Board Examination,” said CBSE in an official statement.
