DMK’s propaganda video shows P-o-K and Aksai Hind as part of Pak and China

The DMK youth wing helmed by ‘actor’ Udhayanidhi Stalin has been releasing propaganda videos for quite some time in the run up to the Assembly elections. On November 11, they released a propaganda video targeting the late AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa and Vedanta Sterlite in which it claimed that the AIADMK government brought in Sterlite Copper Smelter in Thoothukudi and made the place dreadful for its residents.

The more than 10 minute long video that seems like a scene out of a Tamil commercial film, was released in view of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s visit to Thoothukudi who had come to inspect developmental and COVID-19 prevention work.

In the video, a map of India was shown in which Gilgit-Baltistan (currently occupied by Pakistan) and Aksai Hind (occupied by China) was shown as part of Pakistani and Chinese territory respectively.

This had come under severe criticism with netizens lashing out at the party for time and again exposing its anti-Indian and pro-Pakistan agenda. It is being said that even party insiders are discussing about Udhayanidhi Stalin’s ignorance.

Netizens also made a reference to how Udhayanidhi Stalin’s grandfather M. Karunanidhi gave away Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka when he was Chief Minister to secure his chair.

The BJP Tamil Nadu came down heavily on the DMK and Udhayanidhi Stalin asking whether if they have signed any secret pact with Pakistanis to peddle anti-Indian agenda.

Military Intel and UP Police bust Army recruitment scam, ISI hand suspected

India to increase its defence budget

The Indian Army’s Military Intelligence (MI) in conjunction with the Uttar Pradesh Police has busted a racket detrimental to India’s national security. The army’s intelligence arm and the UP Police have found that a racket that allegedly assisted several youths who gave fake documents in the last two years to get jobs in the army, the Times of India, reported.

The investigation led to an ex-serviceman, two police officials, and five others getting arrested. But what is alarming for the investigating team is the possible involvement of Pakistan’s rogue spy agency, the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). It is suspected that certain other anti-national elements might have managed to induct their men into the army through this sinister racket.

The racket was active in four districts of UP and 21 people have landed jobs in the army through this method. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been roped in by the state police for the re-verification process of all candidates who made it into the armed forces through this scam from January 2019.

Rajesh Pandey, DIG OF Bareilly range said, “I have ordered re-verification of all the successful candidates in Bareilly, Pilibhit, Budaun and Shahjahanpur. We have also asked the IB and other security agencies to join the investigation. I am monitoring the case and coordinating with all the agencies,”.

The five accused: Suresh Som, Hukum Singh, Paramveer Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and police constable Manveer Singh were arrested from a rented apartment in Banda area, Shahjahanpur.

“Suresh Som was a havildar in 26 Rajput Regiment and retired in February 2010. Our Bareilly unit is thoroughly investigating the case with police. A separate internal investigation is also going on. The possibility of the involvement of anti-national groups like ISI cannot be ruled out as Som had leaked inside information to recruit the candidates on fake document,” stated an MI officer from Bareilly.

The investigation agencies are examining the antecedents of the concerned 21 candidates currently. More individuals could be discovered as the investigation proceeds.

One of the arrested police officer, Manveer Singh according to S Anand, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Shahjahanpur, said he exploited his position and approved the fake documents of the candidates. “It is a very big scam. Data of 21 candidates, shortlisted in the army through fake documents and showing them as residents of Bareilly division, has been found so far,” the SSP said in a press conference.

Anand added, “We have seized 23 fake stamps of government offices and village heads. Several forged mark-sheets and other fake documents were also recovered from the accused. We are trying to find out the total number of candidates who were recruited through fraudulent means. This is a matter related to national security and no one will be spared.”

The SSP further declared, “One of the accused constables, Manveer, had accepted a bribe of Rs 52,000 from the accused for the verification of a candidate. The accused were getting huge amounts of money for the recruitment. The involvement of ISI or some other anti-national forces behind this racket cannot be denied.”

Communist China accuses democratic US to end human rights violation and discrimination

China, which has been elected member of the U.N. Human Rights Council, has just finished reviewing the U.S. human rights record. In a classic case of the pot calling the kettle, China using the official platform of the UN in a series of tweet said, “China wishes to recommend to the U.S.: 1. Root out systematic racism, address widespread police brutality and combat discrimination against African- and Asian-Americans….”

Using the UN platform, China told America that it must not politicize COVID-19 virus which Donald Trump had called the China Virus and ‘Kung Fu’ Virus. This tweet could be seen as a direct message to Joe Biden who won the just concluded presidential elections. However, it must be noted Trump has still not conceded defeat.

China accused America of taking harsh measures against immigrants and taking a jibe at the Republican party said, there is increasing religious intolerance and xenophobia in parties.

It also called upon America to stop interfering politically in the affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights. What this tweet meant was there must be no interference in Hong Kong and Taiwan as China claims them to bring it under its control.

China has been making all these statements against the USA when it has put over one million Uyghurs Muslims in concentration camps and has launched a crackdown on democratic activists in Hong Kong.

At the same time, the communist regime using its economic muscle has border disputes with practically all its neighbours from the South China Sea, Sea of Japan, and India where the military of both nations is on an eyeball position at the Line of Actual Control.

It is ironic that China should talk about human rights when it uses all the powers of the state to suppress freedom of speech and expression. A while back there were protests in the inner Mongolian region because China tried to impose mandarin over the local dialect.

As there is political uncertainty and for the first time in the American democratic process, there could be trouble in the peaceful transition of power.

Overall regardless of the prevailing social and economic situation, the USA is still the most preferred passport for everyone and many Chinese try to become permanent residents and try to take the route to citizenship.

Soorarai Pottru – A phenomenal Suriya shoulders the flight

At a time when the doors of the theatres are left slightly ajar, one of the much awaited OTT release of the year is here.

Right from the opening sequence, the film keeps one on the edge of the seat. It starts off with a ferocious Maara screaming off in the Aviation Control Room mic ordering his flight pilot to land on an unused strip in Tambaram, after his flight was not allowed to land in the Chennai airport. The control room officer asks – “Who the hell are you to give instructions”, to which Maara gives a savage reply – “Andha flight oda owner da!!”. Surely, Maara is not just the owner of the flights but has also owned the film as he shoulders the character bestowed upon him.

The crux of the movie is simple – A man who decides his own destiny is destined to decide his own fate. Such a man is this Nedumaaran Rajangam (Suriya Sivakumar), who decides to make the impossible come true. A small idea yet a powerful one dawns upon him during a very unfortunate time, he decides to do whatever it takes to achieve that.

Maara’s father is a docile teacher but has been vocal in getting all the amenities to his village in a way that does not disrupt anyone. He is a man bounded by principles with a non-violent mindset. He had been vocal in obtaining electricity to his village and is now striving very hard to request an express train to stop in their village. All his petitions go in vain. Amidst this arises a rebel, a fierce, amateurish man who wages a war against an incoming express train, who would go on to change the fate of the whole country by challenging the aviation giants.

This will definitely be one of the movies that Suriya would be immensely proud of. It is a well known fact that his eyes are laser sharp and can penetrate into any object within matter of seconds. The scenes involving him being a fierce rebel Maara come like an icing on the cake. He diffuses into whatever situation he is being put in, be it a fierce young man, an Air Force officer, a rugged lover boy, a disappointed son, victorious or a destined leader, he just naturally moulds into the man the situation demands him to be. An actor who oozes with talent once again has unleashed his best in Soorarai Pottru that would make himself look at the end of the movie and say – “Well done, Maara!”.

There is no doubt that there is no role in the world that Urvashi cannot do and she as Pechi, Maara’s mother, is no exception. A mother is always someone who prays and believes deep inside for her children to succeed. Pechi is that mother who lives to see her son achieve his dreams, that mother who yearns to see her son realize that his father had not given up on him. There are a couple of unforgettable scenes involving Maara and his mother, a situation that actually becomes responsible for the transformation of Maara into a man who sets out to reach the skies is just outstanding. The sequence leading to this earlier Urvashi sequence shows how the rich have been looking down on the lower classes with distaste, even if it was someone who has served his country.

Aparna Balamurali as Sundari/Bommi was terrific with her attitude throughout the movie. With someone like Suriya opposite her, it may have been okay to just be there on screen for her to shine, but even then, she probably pulls off one of the best performances of her career. A woman who has been rejected by 20 grooms for being ambitious is matched up against a man who has been rejected by 24 banks for being ambitious. This may be a story of a man who chased his dreams, but there is a very silent story of a woman who chased her dreams as well but never sacrificed them for the sake of family. In fact, her business takes off well ahead than Maara’s which becomes a strong support to sustain the family at times of need.

There definitely needs to be a mention of Kaali Venkat, who played Maara’s friend from the village. He may be seen only in very small roles, but there is so much substance in his characters that most of the times, they come out as someone who has been living as that character for years now.

It seems to us that whatever Sudha Kongara touches turns into gold, but there is so much of planning that goes into her movies. Irudhi Sutru took her six years to materialize and we knew what it turned out to be for her and the movie industry. Soorarai Pottru makes things more concrete, tells us that she is here to stay even if her movies take sometime to come out. Terrific writing and screenplay to make the movie interesting even if it was a biopic. GV Prakash is terrific with his background score. Probably, the best thing about the score and the songs was that it feels raw and earthy.

Even though, the movie remains quite engaging throughout, it lacked certain coherence in the beginning. Just like how a buzzing bee keeps moving until it finds a juicy flower to sit on, the screenplay kept jumping here and there, rather quickly, for things to get a grip on. The non-linear screenplay worked in a few places, didn’t work in a few, but the problem here was the unwanted cuts before sequences coming to an end, sometimes looking a little chopped. The flashback scenes looked a little forced from where it jumped off. Once the story kicks in with Maara getting into the act, things settle down.

A special mention has to be made on the end credits sequence which shows the happiness and cute fear of each and every person travelling on an airplane for the first time. Obviously, this movie was taken before the COVID took over the world. It gives us all a respite to watch a full-fledged movie after all these “limited edition” ones.

“All the world’s a stage. And all the men and women merely players.” But what if we decide to go above the one who is conducting the play and become someone who dictates the play?

Soorarai Pottru – all brave should be hailed.

From now, no more foreign funds for NGOs backing political activities

In a blow to organisations that used to receive funds that supported farmers or student organisations participating in party politics, the government that had earlier introduced a more stringent regulation for foreign-funded NGOs and associations with recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010.

Now the government has turned its attention and has revised the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Rules, 2011 to make them stricter. This means NGOs cannot receive funds that supports students and farmer unions.

Under the new guidelines, all entities seeking registration or prior permission under FCRA should be in existence for 3 years having spent a minimum ₹15 lakh on its core activities for the benefit of society.

Importantly, the new rules add a sub-rule to Rule 3, stating that organisations specified under clauses (v) and (vi) of sub-rule 1 — which cover organisation of farmers, workers, students, caste and community-based organisations not directly aligned to parties but which advance political interests of such groups, as well as outfits that habitually engage in political action like bandhs, hartal, rasta roko — shall be considered of political nature if they participate in party politics.

More importantly, from now on entities of political nature are barred from receiving foreign contributions and all fees and contributions will be submitted electronically.

Under the new rule application fee for grant of registration under FCRA has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 from and for grant of prior permission to Rs 10,000 from Rs 5,000.

The Central government, in exceptional cases or in cases where a person is controlled by the Central Government or a state government may waive the conditions requiring entities applying for registration/prior permission under FCRA to be in existence for three years and having spent Rs 15 lakh on its core activities aimed at benefit of the society for past three years. If an entity wants inclusion of its existing capital investment in assets like land, building, other permanent structures, vehicles, equipment in the computation of its spending during last three years, then the chief functionary shall give an undertaking that the assets shall be vested henceforth with the person till the validity of the certificate and they shall be utilised only for the activities covered under the Act and the rules made thereunder and shall not be diverted for any other purpose.

A person seeking prior permission for receipt of a specific amount from a specific donor for carrying out specific activities or projects, under the new rules, must submit a specific commitment letter from the donor indicating the amount of foreign contribution and the purpose for which it is proposed to be given. For the Indian recipient and foreign donor organisations having common members, prior permission shall be granted to the person provided the chief functionary of the recipient NGO is not a part of the donor organisation and 75% of the office-bearers or members of the governing body of the NGO are not members or employees of the foreign donor organisation. In case of foreign donor organisation being a single individual that individual shall not be the chief functionary or office bearer of the recipient person; and in case of a single foreign donor, 75% of the office bearers or members of the governing body of the recipient person shall not be the family members or close relatives of the donor.

In the new rules, after rule 9, a new rule 9A shall be inserted to regulate permission for receipt of foreign contribution in application for obtaining prior permission. If the value of foreign contribution on the date of final disposal of an application for obtaining prior permission exceeds Rs 1 crore, the Central government may permit receipt of foreign contribution in such instalments, as it may deem fit: provided that the second and subsequent instalment shall be released after submission of proof of utilisation of 75 per cent of the foreign contribution received in the previous instalment and after field inquiry of the utilisation of foreign contribution.”

TN University withdraws Arundhati Roy’s ‘Walking with the Comrades’ from syllabus

arundhati roy hindu india

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University located in Tirunelvi, Tamil Nadu has withdrawn controversial author Arundhati Roy’s book ‘Walking with the Comrades’ after objections raised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization part of the larger Sangh Parivar.

The ABVP in its letter said “MSU is an important institution where innumerable scholars and intellectuals have studied. Arundhati Roy’s book ‘Walking with the Comrades’ has been included in the syllabus for MA English (third semester), as part of Unit V (commonwealth literature). This is about the arms training given to the Maoists, who are considered as anti-nationals. It is highly regrettable that this book has been in the syllabus for the past three years. All these years Maoists thoughts and ideologies have been taught to the young students. The book instils anti-national sentiments in young fertile minds and encourages terrorism. We urge the MSU to condemn the inclusion of this book and withdraw the book immediately. The people behind this ulterior move should be asked to apologise. We will organise protests if it is not withdrawn from the curriculum.”

The Vice Chancellor K Pitchumani had formed a committee after they received complaints from ABVP organizers last week. The committee comprising of academic deans and board of studies members decided to withdraw the book as they agreed that it may be inappropriate to teach a controversial book for students.

The book was made a part of the syllabus by the university in 2017 under the Commonwealth Literature category for BA English language and literature students in the third semester.

It has now been replaced with M Krishnan’s My Native Land: Essays on Nature.

Arundhati Roy is known for being a left-wing extremism and an Islamic terror apologist peddling anti-Hindu narratives. The book, is an account of the face-off between Maoists and the Indian government.

ABVP Dakshin Tamil Nadu joint secretary Vignesh was quoted saying they were shocked to find a book that infused Maoist ideologies and terrorism upon which they had met the Vice Chancellor and requested him to withdraw the book.

Shocking: Temple tower in Thanjavur encroached by a family for 60 years, even built a house inside while HR&CE remained mute spectator

Located in the quaint village of Thopparangatti in Thanjavur district is a Vinayagar Temple said to have been built during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire. For long, it was thought that the temple did not have a gopuram (entrance tower). However, a family has been squatting under the gopuram for 60 years and has even built a house under it. While it is normal to wish for having a house with stellar architecture, this family has gone to the extent of appropriating the gopuram for themselves.

About 60 years ago, a 430 sq. ft. mandapam (hall) under the royal tower of the temple was leased by the Dharmavans who were then in charge of the administration of the temple to a temple worker named Sabapathy Pillai.

Sabapathy had built a house there and after his death his son Jayaraman and wife Shyamala have been living in this house. Now, only Shyamala lives in this place which has been completely converted into a house with doors, floors and windows without any sign of a temple gopuram.

Despite the growing opposition from the locals, Shyamala has been adamant to not vacate from the place. The locals had raised the matter with Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department. However, as is always the case, the HR&CE department had dragged its feet claiming that they cannot be called encroachers because of the lease agreement.

Finally, the HR&CE department removed the ‘occupation’ with the help of the authorities after ordering the cancellation of the contract given to Sabapathy Pillai.

The temple comes under the administrative control of the (HR&CE) Department. Along with this temple, the HR&CE controls around 88 temples including the famous Brihadeeswarar Temple.

The incident has left the Hindus in a state of anguish as to what would happen to the other movable and immovable temple properties under the control of the HR&CE department.
