Protestor ecosystem patronized by DMK ruins investment climate for TN

Kitex Garments, the world’s second largest manufacturer of kids apparel has decided to withdraw from ₹3,500 crore investment plan Kerala due to constant inspections tantamount to harassment by the Pinarayi Vijayan Communist government and has decided to shift to other states. Six states including Tamil Nadu and Telangana invited Kitex to invest in their state. However, Kitex decided to invest in Telangana instead of Tamil Nadu, despite offering irresistible offer. The reasons behind Kitex’s decision to invest in Telangana instead of Tamil Nadu requires serious discussion about the kind of investment climate prevailing over Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government had given many concessions in order to get Kitex Garments to invest in the state. According to Sabu M. Jacob, Chairman of the world’s second largest kidswear manufacturing company, Tamil Nadu has offered the company a 40% subsidy on the total investment, half-priced land, full stamp duty waiver, 5% interest subvention for the first six years, 25% subsidy on environmental protection facility, 50% subsidy on intellectual property rights protection and 20 per cent of the employee cost for up to 10 years to be borne by the state.

The firm also offered a five-year discount on electricity, a 100 percent exemption from state GST on capital assets, ₹4,000 in employee training and ₹6,000 in training for workers from SC/ST groups, and a 50% subsidy on quality assurance certification fees. The Tamil Nadu government further stated that any additional demands from the Kitex Group would also be considered.

Now, why will a firm, given this much concession, will drop Tamil Nadu as their choice is the fundamental question that arises to any person in Tamil Nadu. There might be a slew of reasons converging to create an unfavourable investment climate in Tamil Nadu and the DMK may have been involved in each of them in the past in order to gain power in the state.

After Jayalalitha’s demise, there was political instability, with the main opposition party, the DMK, anticipating that the government might fall at any time. Unfortunately for MK Stalin, the then opposition leader, nothing like that transpired. Edappadi Palaniswami emerged as a new leader in ADMK and led the government for the entire five-year tenure.

DMK President MK Stalin gave tacit support to anti-social elements protesting the AIADMK government, while he was the opposition leader which was promoted by their media ecosystem. Under the guise of protecting the environment and farmers, they protested against every big project in Tamil Nadu. This includes protests against Vedanta’s Sterlite Copper at Thoothukudi, Neutrino project, already operational petroleum product extraction plants in Tamil Nadu, and even the construction of eight-lane highways between Chennai and Salem, thus destroying the state’s investment climate. The DMK’s sole agenda was to create unrest in the state, channel people’s rage at the ruling AIADMK through the media, and grab power in Assembly elections.

In 2018, then-chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami claimed on the floor of the Tamil Nadu assembly that the state has the highest number of protests in the country, with 47 agitations each day. Tamil Nadu had seen a negative growth in foreign direct investment for the financial year 2019-2020, according to data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and released by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). How will investors invest when every infrastructure project in the state is opposed under the guise of environmental concerns?

Furthermore, the new finance minister Palanivel Thiagarajan’s verbal rant and regurgitation about his ‘qualifications’ both offline and online has harmed investor sentiment even further.  His spat with Goa transport minister at the GST council meeting, and BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan as well as his rant against non-political people like Mohandai Pai, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and Malani Parthasarathy, seems to have scared investors. Investors would definitely be wary of someone on such abusive spree.

On top of that, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced in the Assembly on June 25 that the DMK government would withdraw all police cases filed against protesters during the previous AIADMK government, which is seen as the final nail in the coffin for those considering investing in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK may have been successful in winning the election by employing a protest tactic through its activist and media ecosystem, but they have destroyed the investment atmosphere of Tamil Nadu. Kitex is one such firm that has moved on to Telangana over Tamil Nadu, and until the DMK government’s attitude toward development projects changes, not only new companies would reject Tamil Nadu, but also existing companies will abandon the state.

CM Stalin fails to attract KITEX to TN, company invests ₹1000 Cr to set up Mega Textile Park in Telangana

After the state of Telangana sent a private plane to ferry KITEX Managing Director Sabu Jacob and a five-member team, on Friday (9 July), it has now been confirmed that the company would invest ₹1000 crore in the state.

KITEX was Kerala’s largest private employer but due to the constant harassment by the State’s communist government it has cancelled the MoU it signed with the state government and is now investing its money in Telangana.

The company team that flew to Telangna made announced its investment after meeting state Industries and Commerce Minister KT Rama Rao. It would invest ₹1000 crore to set up its factories at the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in the Warangal district.

“Delighted to announce the entry of KITEX group, world’s 2nd largest manufacturer of kids apparel into Telangana with an initial investment of Rs 1,000 crore. They’ve chosen KMTP, Warangal for their factories. My gratitude to Mr. Sabu M. Jacob, MD of KITEX group on a quick decision,” minister KT Rama Rao tweeted.

“In principle, the Kitex Group has agreed upon a Phase- I investment of 1,000 crores within a span of two years in the textile industry for the project ‘Textile Apparel’ in the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal,” Kitex MD Jacob said.

“This investment will generate an employment of 4,000 jobs in the state of Telangana,” he added.

Kitex Garments is the world’s second-largest manufacturer of kids apparel made news when it announced that it is scrapping plans to open an apparel park in Kochi and other areas in Kerala due to constant harassment by officials of the CPM-led government.

“Almost every day, officials of the government department descend on the premises of the company and make inquiries as if we committed a big fraud. I am fed up with continuous harassment. The government treats us like bourgeoises, exploitative capitalists and land encroachers. Enough is enough,” Kitex chairman Sabu M Jacob said.

“If the situation continues like this, the State will turn into a graveyard of industries. While neighbouring states roll out red carpets for industries, we are hounding them out. No doubt, the existing climate will drive entrepreneurs to suicide,” he said, adding that the latest to inspect his premises were officials from the pollution control board.

“Whoever invests in Kerala will lose peace of mind and will be driven to suicide,” Sabu Jacob added.

Earlier, there were talks of the company investing in Tamil Nadu. Discussions were reportedly held with the Minister for Industries and Principal Secretary (Industries) of Tamil Nadu government and the government is said to have offered many incentives like 40% subsidy on investment, land at half the market rate, exemption on stamp duty, five% interest rebate for six years, tax concessions, etc.

However, the company seems to have not shown interest in Tamil Nadu. Many Tamil netizens and Opposition political parties at a dig at Chief Minister Stalin pointing his inability to attract a potential investor.

BJP Tamil Nadu spokesperson SG Suryah said that for all the big talk, CM Stalin couldn’t manage to bring Kitex to Tamil Nadu with which the neighbouring state shares close affinity and called it an absolute shame.

Responding to Suryah’s tweet, one user on Twitter pointed out that the Kitex Group must have seen Tamil Nadu Finance Minister’s must have got frightened to invest in the state after seeing his recent speeches..

Another user said taking a jibe at DMK Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji said that if squirrels can manage to cut power, it won’t take a minute to tear away the textiles.

BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan quotes ‘Kongu Nadu’ from ancient texts, hints her support for Kongu Nadu

On June 10, BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, on her Facebook page, quoted the presence of Kongu Nadu in ancient Tamil texts and hinted at her support for the Kongu state.

Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP MLA from Coimbatore South constituency, said that the boundaries of Kongu Nadu were defined in the ancient Sangam Literature of Tamil poet Iraiyanar.

She added that several Kongu literatures have defined the boundaries of Kongu Nadu, which include 24 regions:  Anda Nadu, Araiyan Nadu, Aarai Nadu, Aanaimalai Nadu, Rasipura Nadu, Oruvanga Nadu, Kangeyam Nadu, Kanchi Kovil Nadu, Kaavadikan Nadu, Kilangu Nadu, Kurumbu Nadu, Thattaiyan Nadu, Thalaiyan Nadu, Poontharai Nadu, Thiruvavinan Nadu, Thenkarai Nadu, Nallurukkan Nadu, Poovaniya Nadu, Pongalur Nadu, Manal Nadu, Vadakarai Nadu, Vaarakkan Nadu, Vaazhavanthi Nadu, and Vengkaala Nadu.

Vanathi Srinivasan further said that ancient Sangam literature Pathitrupatru and Puranaanooru gave a comprehensive portrayal of the Kongu Nadu and that Kongu Nadu had a different tax structure from the rest of Tamil Nadu during the Nayakkar period. She also referenced the classic Tamil poem ‘Moodurai,’ which claimed that if Kongu thrives, so will Tamil Nadu as a whole.

All these developments are being seen as a direct response to the DMK which has been calling the Government of India as ‘Ondriya Arasu’. Many on social media belonging to the Kongu region have largely supported the BJP government’s move.

Earlier, Dr. L Murugan, in the profiles of Ministers released through the official handles of the BJP and other government portals like MyGov, mentioned that he hails from Kongu Nadu.

According to reports, the Modi Government and the top brass of the BJP which has been watching these developments closely, are dissatisfied with this provocative behavior of the DMK government and have decided to retaliate.

Kongu Naadu to be carved out of TN and made Union Territory?

Ever since the DMK came to power, it has been referring to the Central Government as ‘Union Government’ intentionally which the critics of the party allege that the term carries separatist undertones under the garb of ‘federalism’.

Apart from this, several other moves of the DMK government like its Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan’s blaming of the GST Council and its process during the meetings and forming of a committee ‘to study the impact of NEET’, appointment of a 5 member Economic Advisory Council with members who have share an agenda against the Modi-led Government Central are being seen as deliberate provocations.

To top it all, a DMK ally MLA (E.R. Eswaran of the Kongu Desiya Makkal Katchi) had disrespected the Jai Hind slogan in the floor of the Assembly by saying that the DMK has made Tamil Nadu proud by removing ‘Jai Hind’ slogan from the Governor’s address. Chief Minister MK Stalin made no comments on this and other senior leaders of the DMK sought to justify their ally MLA’s remarks. DMK Minister K. Ponmudy in a recent interview to a private television channel had even asked ‘What is wrong in not saying Jai Hind?’ and that CM Stalin has decided to do away with the slogan.

According to reports, the Modi Government and the top brass of the BJP which has been watching these developments closely is said to be dissatisfied with this provocative behavior of the DMK government and has decided to retaliate.

Dr. L. Murugan, a native of the Kongu region, who was serving as the BJP Tamil Nadu President was made Union Minister in the newly formed Cabinet.

The profiles of Ministers released through the official handles of the BJP and other government portals like MyGov showed Dr. L. Murugan identifying himself as hailing from Kongu Naadu.

Following this, former IPS officer K. Annamalai, who hails from Karur (also part of the Kongu region) was elevated as the head of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.

It is to be noted that in this region, the BJP has a good vote bank as evident from even the recently concluded Assembly elections. The AIADMK-BJP combine swept the region with the DMK getting routed completely. The BJP currently has 2 MLAs – Vanathi Srinivasan (Coimbatore South) and Dr. Saraswathi (Modakurichi) from this region.

The Kongu region comprises of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri, Nilgiris, Karur and Krishnagiri districts which are located in the western part of Tamil Nadu. This region is the wealthiest contributing the highest share of revenue to Tamil Nadu due its vibrant small, medium and large scale industries. It is also an educational hub and has a bustling talent pool.

There are 10 Lok Sabha constituencies and 61 Assembly constituencies. The Central Government is planning to declare this region of Kongu Naadu as a separate Union Territory, similar to Pondicherry, with a total of 90 Assembly constituencies by including some adjoining constituencies.

It is being said that the Modi Government is considering carving out Kongu Naadu from Tamil Nadu and declare it as a Union Territory. If reports are to be believed, the BJP is said to be mulling over who to appoint as Lieutenant Governor.

All these developments are being seen as a direct response to the DMK which has been calling the Government of India as ‘Ondriya Arasu’. Many on social media belonging to the Kongu region has largely been supportive of the BJP government’s move.

It remains to be seen if the BJP will capitalize on a demand for Kongu Naadu to establish its dominance in the state before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

‘Jai Hind, Long Live Bharat, Let TN prosper’: BJP TN head Annamalai blows the conch

Former IPS officer K. Annamalai, who had earned the monicker ‘Singham’ owing to his daring career in police was appointed as the Tamil Nadu BJP President after the post fell vacant following the elevation of Dr. L. Murugan as Union Minister.

Annamalai was the party’s Vice President and had contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as candidate from Aravakurichi. He had secured more than 68000 votes.

After his appointment, Annamalai issued a statement on social media in which he blew the conch to the politics that he will be undertaking as the head of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.

In his statement, Annamalai said that he will take the party’s ideology to nook and corners and infuse a spirit of nationalism in every household.

He said that Tamil Nadu has immensely benefitted from the schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and fund allocation from the Central Government.

“As a team, & with the guidance of our senior leadership in TN, we will work together & honour the faith and trust reposed on me by the national leadership”, Annamalai said.

He ended his statement with the slogans “Jai Hind! Vaazhga Bharatam (Long Live Bharat)! Valarga Tamil Nadu (Let Tamil Nadu prosper)”

The slogans of Annamalai is being seen as a direct message to the DMK after one of its ally MLA disrespected the Jai Hind slogan in the floor of the Assembly. Tiruchengode MLA E.R. Easwaran during his speech in the Assembly said that the DMK made Tamil Nadu proud by removing the Jai Hind slogan from the Governor’s address.

Telangana sends special flight to Kerala to lift KITEX Managing Director Sabu Jacob and five top executives

After Kitex Garments pulled out from the ₹3,500- crore project from Kerala due to harassment by the Communist government, the state of Telangana has gone one step further by sending a special flight to Kerala to bring the company leadership to Hyderabad just days after receiving a formal invitation from the Tamil Nadu government to invest in the State.

The Tamil Nadu government in order to get the project in their state had arranged a meeting with the minister and assured of providing many incentives and ease of business, however, the Telangana government sent a special flight to ferry KITEX Managing Director Sabu Jacob and top executives of the company to Hyderabad on Friday (9 July).

“We have already had one round of discussions with Telangana Industry Minister K T Rama Rao. They have offered excellent facilities and support for the ₹3,500-crore project, which we have abandoned in Kerala. Telangana has invited us following our announcement to cancel the apparel project in Kerala,” KITEX Managing Director Sabu Jacob was quoted saying in a media report.

“We have no plan to make further investment in Kerala. It is already difficult for us to run the existing garment unit in Ernakulam. Then, how can we plan new investments? We have already spent Rs 200 crore for the proposed project, which would have given employment to 30,000 people, apart from developing 600 small-scale ventures in the sector,” he responded to comments by ruling CPM and opposition Congress which called him a traitor.

Ketix, the world’s second-largest kids apparel maker pulling out Kerala only proves why Kerala languishes at the bottom of the table in attracting investments and ranks 28th in the ‘ease of doing business index due to the constant harassment by officials of the CPM-led government.

Dr. Krishnasamy questions Tamil film industry’s fear over proposed changes to Cinematograph Act

Puthiya Tamilagam President Krishnasamy has questioned the Tamil film industry’s fear of the central government’s new draft Cinematograph Amendment Act when they have nothing to conceal.

In a press release on July 8, Dr. Krishnasamy said,” the recent draft amendment to Cinematograph Act does not curtail freedom of expression as claimed by celebrities in the film industry. The central government can only order re-censorship of films already certified by CBFC, considering the sovereignty and unity of this country.”

He questioned why the Tamil film industry is afraid of the new proposed amendment and claimed that films involving controversies on caste, religion, or sexual violence can only be regulated by the law of re-censorship.

He asserted that a law allowing the central government to re-censor a movie is necessary today and that filmmakers should not be afraid of re-censorship if there is no fault in their screenplay.

Watch: Video of Coimbatore youth taking drugs goes viral

After a video of a group of young people reportedly taking injectable sedative drugs went viral on social media, Coimbatore city police formed four special squads to examine the case of the city’s growing drug problem.

Locals claim that the video is that of youth living in Ukkadam, Kuniyamuthur, Selvapuram, Karumbukadai, Ponvizha Nagar, and Pudhukkadu. They also suggested that social organizations, Jamaat members, and parents should make attempts to save them from using the drug.

Around seven youths are seen in the video injecting sedative drugs at an undisclosed location in the city. Coimbatore city Commissioner Deepak M Damor said, “We have received the video and it is not clear where it was taken. All police teams in the city have been alerted to investigate the incident at their respective limits about the incident. Also, the special teams are pressed into service to locate the persons in the video footage.”

A resident of Selvapuram, Coimbatore, said, “After the DMK government took control, they failed to allocate adequate vaccination to Kongu Nadu. They have now disregarded the region’s law and order issue. Before the DMK came to power, we had never heard of drug issues.”

UGC decolonizes history curriculum, gives impetus to the idea of Bharat and Indus Saraswati Civilisation

After a long hiatus, the history curriculum of the B.A. History course is all set to be overhauled with the UGC releasing the new Learning Outcomes based Curriculum Framework.

This is being seen as the first attempt to decolonizing Indian history and finally getting rid of the stranglehold of Marxist historians.

The new curriculum is a completely new approach to learning history from an Indic perspective and the idea of Bharat. The new syllabus gives more impetus to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. But the most significant change is the use of the term “Indus Saraswati Civilisation”, in place of Indus Valley Civilisation which is a clear attempt to finally bust the myth of the now-debunked Aryan invasion theory.

Also, the new syllabus will include “Indian perception of Dharma and Darshan” and “Science and Technology in Ancient India”. It also includes Indian Literature of Ved, Vedanga, Upanishads, Epics, Jain and Buddhist Literature, Smriti, Puranas, etc.

However, the most irksome change UGC has made for the undergraduate program is that the glorification of the Mughals as great administrators has now come to an end.

Earlier, atrocities committed by invaders were brushed under the carpet or justified in order to make history subscribe to secular credentials. However, with a separate section to discuss the ‘impact of Muslim rule in India’, it is being seen as a step towards truth and reconciliation.

More historical information on the Rajputs and how the Mewars, Marwar, Jats, Sikhs and Bundles resisted the Mughals find a place in the revamped curriculum.

Another important aspect is that the Vijayanagar Kingdom gets its due recognition with an entire section for its invaluable contribution.

Other welcome aspects include the inclusion of Indic historians like Rakhaldas Bandyopadhyay, Jadunath Sircar, R C Majumdar, and C V Vaidya which will give students a broader view of history.

After a long time, the UGC releasing a curricular framework will provide a wide perspective of this great nation’s history and is now receiving its share of appreciation and criticism.

IMK Chief Arjun Sampath slams DMK and Congress for glorifying Stan Swamy and creating conducive atmosphere for separatists

Indu Makkal Katchi Arjun Sampath slammed the DMK and Congress for glorifying Pastor Stan Swamy who was involved in activities against the country and encouraged secession.

Arjun Sampath said in his statement, which was issued on July 8, that “Stanislaus Lourduswamy, popularly known as Stan Swamy, 83, who was arrested for plotting to assassinate the Prime Minister of India and died in prison due to corona disease, has been hailed as a human rights activist and social activist. The activist who hailed him also accused the Central Government and the intelligence agencies of his death.”

While criticizing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for his condolence message for Stan Swamy’s demise,  Arjun Sampath said,” Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has issued a message of condolence for his death, making Pastor Stan look like a national martyr who went to prison fighting for the rights of the grassroots while the truth is that the National Intelligence Agency had detained him for being a Maoist and inciting violence and terrorism against the country.”

Arjun Sampath lambasted the Congress party for organizing a march from the Congress party’s headquarters in Tamil Nadu, Sathyamoorthy Bhavan, to pay tribute to Stan Swamy and urged that the government take appropriate action against the officials responsible for his death.

He added that such actions by Congress and the DMK for a person detained for plotting to assassinate India’s Prime Minister will make him appear like a martyr and a prisoner for the national interest, which is against our country and encourages secession.

He said,” The DMK government is already listening to the views of the Naxals, separatists, anti-nationalists, anti-Modi propagandists, those who are working against the central government and those who are trying to destabilize the central government. It is highly reprehensible for political parties in Tamil Nadu to register their views in support of Urban Naxalites like Stan Sami.”

He criticized the Congress party for failing to learn from the past, even after the assassination of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi, and claimed that the party is now acting as if it is supporting and promoting separatist Naxal terrorists.

He ended by asking the central and state governments to be watchful in this regard and not allow a pro-separatist and pro-terrorist atmosphere to develop in Tamil Nadu.
