In what seems to be an blatant abuse of power, Chengalpattu Collector Rahul Nadh IAS allegedly harassed the southern representative of the National Council for Transgender Persons, Gopi Shankar Madurai by initiating action against him and other fellow members of his community while they had gathered at a place to discuss the problems faced by the trans community.

Gopi Shankar Madurai had come to Mahabalipuram to attend to the grievances of gender non-conforming and transgender people and had arranged dinner for them at a property belonging to the fishermen community on the night of July 31, 2021.a. Around 20 people belonging to diverse SOGIESC and trans communities who are homeless and jobless were present.

They were reportedly verbally abused and physically harassed by the Mahabalipuram police inspector and RI who later sealed the place of the fishermen community.

In an audio recording accessed by The Commune, the Mahabalipuram RI can be heard informing District Collector Rahu Nadh that 40 people have gathered at the place drinking alcohol and that Gopi Shankar Madurai had ‘spoken too much’ to the police inspector. Rahul Nadh tells the inspector to come to a place away from them. He can be heard telling the RI to ‘take photos and videos properly’ and let the others go with a fine after they finish eating. He also asks him to seal the place and slap an FIR against Gopi Shankar Madurai.

The RI reportedly sealed the place later and initiated action against Gopi Shankar Madurai.

Speaking to The Commune, one of the transpersons who wished to remain unidentified had told that both the Collector and the police were acted in a prejudiced manner insensitive towards the trans community members.

ISIS Jihadi bride returns to UK, govt gives her 5 lakh pound house and free medical support

As people of the United Kingdom face an uncertain future, a British jihadi bride named Samia Hussein who had travelled to Syria on her own volition and lost an arm in an airstrike is now living in a £500,000 (over 5 crore) council house and has been fitted with an expensive prosthetic limb allegedly funded by the National Health Service (NHS), reports The Mail.

Hussein was injured during an air attack in the Syrian city of Raqqa, which was under the control of the Islamic State. She had joined ISIS as a 22-year-old in 2015 and returned to Britain in February 2020 and as of now, she has not been charged with any offence but remained under investigation.

Hussein was born in the UK and later enrolled for a degree course in journalism at the United States International University in Nairobi in 2014. After IS declared its caliphate stretching between Syria and Iraq she started getting inspired by its propaganda videos with university friends and, according to her own account, was being groomed online by terror chiefs.

Hussein left Kenya and entered Syria via Turkey which is the route chosen by many European Muslims in early 2015. When she arrived in the ISIS-controlled area, she said she first stayed in a ‘madhafa’, or guesthouse, for Jihadi brides in the town of Manbij, which was nicknamed “Little London” because of the large numbers of British jihadis living there.

The IS were forced women to stay in a madhafa until they married a Jihadist and Hussein was wed to a fighter called Abu Suleiman and the couple lived in Manbij for six months before moving to Raqqa. It was during her stay in Raqqa she lost her arm which had to be amputated and she also lost a breast and suffered severe leg injuries due to the airstrike.

Hussein was captured during the battle of Baghouz and in early 2019 and was detained at the al-Hol prison camp. There in an interview, Hussian said she was vulnerable and was trying to find a purpose in life that led her to give up a career of being a journalist and now four years of her life went down the drain because she thought she was coming for a better cause.

Even though Samia Hussein is now filled with regret probably due to the injuries she has suffered, it must be noted that she joined the Islamic State when it took thousands of Yazidi women as sex slaves and her denials must be taken with a pinch of salt when she said, “‘I didn’t do anything. I played no part in it, OK,”.

But the above statement contradicts her because during the same interview when asked about the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, which left 22 people dead – mainly children, she called them “victims of war”. Hussein came to the UK 18 months ago and was arrested under anti-terrorism laws but was released shortly despite spending five years with IS.

She is now living in a new-build council house with members of her family in West London, where such properties cost between £500,000 and £600,000 which is beyond the reach of an average for a law-abiding citizen of this country. At present Hussian has no electronic tag on her which means she is not being monitored by the police.

The prosthetic arm fitted on her costs around £3,000 and it is estimated thousands of pounds more was spent on consultants’ fees and physio aftercare, shortly after she arrived back in Britain. The state-of-the-art expensive artificial limb that she received comes at a time when the NHS was suffering some of the worst backlogs in its history because of the Covid-19 pandemic and budget constraints.

Tory MP Tom Hunt said, “If you went to Syria to join IS, which was and is an avowed enemy of this country, then you have abdicated your British citizenship. You should not be allowed to come back, let alone be put in a council house and given expensive treatments on the NHS,”.

Many in the UK now are concerned that how people like Samia Hussein even ever be allowed back into the country and according to Tory MP Andrew Bridgen who said, “I just hope this woman has been thoroughly assessed and she does not pose a threat to national security or her neighbours,”.

According to a BBC report, around 450 British jihadis have returned to the UK from Syria and an investigation by the BBC has revealed that only 14 which is less than 3 per cent have been convicted of terror offences and the Home Office estimates at least 950 British extremists went to Syria to wage jihad for ISIS.

Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder: The patriot from Kongu Nadu

Born on April 17, 1756 at Melapalayam, near Erode in Tamil Nadu, his birth name was Theerthagiri Gounder.

His father was Rathnasamy Gounder and his mom Periyatha.

During that time, the Polygar Wars or Palaiyakkarar Wars were wars fought between the Polygars (Palaiyakkarars) of the former Tirunelveli Kingdom in Tamil Nadu, India and the British East India Company forces between March 1799 to May 1802 or July 1805.

Along with two of his brothers, Theerthagiri learned martial arts while growing up. He formed Kongu Tamil Youth Groups and gave them martial arts training.

When he became the chieftain, he rose up in revolt against the British East India Company in Kongu Nadu, Southern India. He was one of the main leaders and commanded a vast army made up of about 1000 Kongu youths.

He along with Tipu Sultan fought the British. He and his army were instrumental in victories at Chitheswaram, Mazahavalli and Srirangapatna. He fought many battles against the British East India Company successfully, including battle at Cauvery in 1801, at Odanilai in 1802 and battle at Arachalur in 1804.

After the death of Tipu Sultan and Veerapandi Kattabomman in 1799, he returned to Odanilai and built a fort for settlement. He continued to wage the polygar wars against the British rule.

He was betrayed by his cook, Nallappan, and the British forces captured him. He and his two brothers were hanged at Sankari Fort in Salem district on the day of Aadi Perukku on July 31, 1805. He was 49 years old.

The British then banned any and all literature on Chinnamalai. It is thanks to the tradition of oral storytelling, the Chinnalmalai story has reached us.

For those who live in the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu, Dheeran Chinnamalai embodies pride, dignity, and honour. Hence, statues and memorials commemorating Chinnamalai exist in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Erode and Odanilai.

The Tamil Nadu State government has been observing the day of Aadi Perukku as his memorial day every year.

BCCI puts nation above cricket, international players participating in ISI-sponsored KPL not to be allowed in India and participate in any form of cricket

In a swift response, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it very clear to former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that any International cricketer participating in Pakistan sponsored Kashmir Premier League will not be allowed to enter India and participate in any of form Cricket tournament.

“While one can neither confirm or deny the veracity of the statement made by a former player who has figured in a CBI investigation into match-fixing earlier, the PCB must understand that even if Gibb’s statement is assumed to be true, the BCCI would be well within their rights to take decisions with respect to the cricketing ecosystem in India. The fact that the Indian cricketing ecosystem is the most sought after for cricketing opportunities globally, should not be envied by the PCB,” a BCCI official told ANI.

“PCB is coming across as confused. Just the way the decision to not allow players of Pakistani origin to participate in the IPL cannot be construed as interfering in the internal affairs of an ICC member, the decision, if any, to allow or disallow anyone from participating in any manner with cricket within India is purely an internal matter of the BCCI,” the official added.

The BCCI made it very clear that it is well within its rights to take decisions with respect to the cricketing ecosystem in the country and Pakistan Cricket Board has every right to take up the matter with the International Cricket Council. However, it is very clear what is the true intention of the Pakistan board in behaving this way, and what is motivating their actions.

“They are welcome to raise the matter at the ICC and one can understand where this is coming from but the question that they need to ask themselves is whether it is on account of government interference in their working since the PM of Pakistan is officially their Patron as per their own constitution. It is time to consider whether this issue also ought to be raised at the ICC,” said the official.

However, Gibbs criticised the Indian board for allegedly stopping him to play in the Kashmir Premier League, and in a tweet he said, “Completely unnecessary of the @BCCI to bring their political agenda with Pakistan into the equation and trying to prevent me playing in the @kpl_20. Also threatening me saying they won`t allow me entry into India for any cricket related work. Ludicrous.”

After this, the PCB also issued a statement, saying: “The PCB believes the BCCI has once again breached international norms and the spirit of the gentleman`s game by interfering in internal affairs of the ICC Members as the KPL has been approved by the PCB.”

Not impressed by this statement, the BCCI official added, “The PCB would do well to peruse the ICC`s classification of official cricket. In the eventuality that a retired player is participating as a player in a tournament, it would not quite be official cricket and any permission granted would be moot. I am not really sure how they are reading this to mean what they are intending it to mean, but then the PCB`s positioning is always bemusing. They should allow cricket to entertain rather than their decision making.”

Annamalai-1, Dayanidhi-0: DMK MP tries to belittle TN BJP head on Mekedatu issue, gets befitting reply in return

In a major embarrassment for DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai gave a befitting reply when the former tried to take jibes at him on the Mekedatu issue.

Annamalai had announced that he would be sitting on a hunger strike over the Karnataka government’s decision to proceed with constructing the Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery River.

Responding to this, the recently sworn in Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that no matter who fasts or eats, his government would build the Mekedatu dam.

In light of this, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran on Saturday (July 31) had said “In light of the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai making it clear that the Mekedatu dam would be built even if the Tamil Nadu BJP opposes, let us send the ‘warrior’ Annamalai to Karnataka as ambassador to find a solution”.

However, in an stinging reply Annamalai tweeted “Unlike Dayanidhi Maran who watches T20 matches in the middle of a pandemic, I’m always ready for our farmers”.

“Also request him to kindly loan his family’s personal jet so that my simple & humble farmer friends can reach faster. Will his uncle Thiru MK Stalin agree to this!” he further added.

The same was written in Tamil too by Annamalai in which he had said if the Dayanidhi’s Mama (uncle) Stalin would let him go to Karnataka with farmers.

Annamalai’s supporters and netizens supportive of the BJP called it a befitting reply and have appreciated the Tamil Nadu BJP chief for his sharp come back.

With Annamalai referring to Stalin as Dayanidhi’s Mama, the hashtag #மாமாஸ்டாலின் (#MamaStalin) is now trending on Twitter.

Telugu film Ippudu Kaaka Inkeppudu distorts devotional hymn Bhaja Govindam and uses it for sexually explicit scenes

Bhaja Govindam, the 8th century Hindu devotional composition in Sanskrit composed by Adi Shankara which reverberates in every Hindu household has now been used for subversion and cheap sensationalism by the Telugu film industry.

This deeply spiritual hymn sung by millions of Indians has been distorted and used against sexual scenes of a Telugu film named Ippudu Kaaka inkeppudu.

The devotional song contorted with disco beats comes as an interlude as part of the title song of the movie. It is played in the trailer of the film in which a boy and a girl indulge in sexual pursuits.

The movie written and directed by Y. Yugandhar is produced under the banner of Sri Chakraas Entertainments with Gopalakrishna Reddy as the producer.

About Bhaja Govindam

Composed by Adi Shankaracharya, who is known as the reviver of Hinduism, Bhaja Govindam also has its meaning in Jnana Marga (Jnana Yoga) or the “Path of Knowledge” to attain Mukti, and Bhakti Marga (Bhakti Yoga) to attain the same goal.

C Rajagopalachari was an Indian statesman, writer, lawyer, and the last Governor-General of India perhaps gave the most insightful modern commentary when he said, “”When intelligence (jnana) matures and lodges securely in the heart, it becomes wisdom (vignyana). When that wisdom (vignyana) is integrated with life and issues out in action, it becomes devotion (bhakti). Knowledge (jnana) which has become mature is spoken of as devotion (bhakti). If it does not get transformed into devotion (bhakti), such knowledge (jnana) is useless tinsel,”.

Bhaja Govindam is meant for spiritual development and liberation from the cycle of birth and death and a call for the renunciation of our egotistical differences and surrender to God makes for salvation and it is now being used to subvert our culture.

Hindu family forced to remove saffron flag, compound wall bulldozed by police inspector in Tamil Nadu

Tensions were high in the Tenkasi district’s Kadayam area after Tamil Nadu police threatened to file bogus charges against a Hindu resident who refused to remove saffron flags from his home.

A video of a police inspector arguing with Chelladurai, a resident of the Kadayam area in Tenkasi district in Tamil Nadu, for hoisting a Hindu saffron flag atop his home, has gone viral on social media platforms.

A police officer, identified as Inspector Reghurajan, can be seen approaching Chelladurai’s home in the footage. The police officer picks up an argument with Chelladurai’s family and orders him to take down the saffron flag that has been placed outside his home. After he removes the Hindu Munnai flag, a bulldozer arrives at the location and razes his residence’s compound wall.

https://twitter.com/MrSinha_/status/1420985723923046400?s=20

The alleged incident took place at Pulavanoor village, which is located near Kadayam. After a church filed a complaint against the family, police officer Reghurajan arrived on the scene to take action against Chelladurai and his family. Several people, including women and children, sat on the road to protest the registration of bogus complaints against members of Hindu groups while police began to remove the outer wall of Chelladurai’s residence.

“You are silent on atrocities committed by other religions, but you want us to remove the encroachment; we are willing; but first, ask the Christians to remove the illegal encroachment,” the irate family members of the Chelladurai approached the police after the demolition. “Don’t we have the freedom to fly the flag of the political party of our choice?”

“Do not speak rules,” the Inspector advised them in return. If you do, I’ll file a fake case against you. So get rid of the encroachment as well as the flag.”

The conflict between Chelladurai and a Christian group, according to Kutralanthan, a Hindu Munnani leader and campaigner, began six months ago. The Hindu villagers of Pulavanoor village have protested the unlawful church’s construction on government land. They had even filed a police report, requesting that the church be prosecuted for illegal encroachment.

The police, however, did not take any action against the church because of the Church’s strong influence on the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, according to the Hindu activist.

He described the incident in detail, saying that car driver Chelladurai had recently built a house with a compound wall. Later, a church was constructed in that area. The church’s main entrance was just next to Chelladurai’s compound wall. The land belonged to Chelladurai, according to the revenue department records. As a result, Chelladurai constructed a structure out of hollow stones and covered it with a roof.

Another church was built near the left side of his house a few months later. The churchgoers objected to his house’s wall, claiming that it was obstructing the church gate, and demanded that he demolish the buildings immediately. Anticipating the church’s ulterior motives, Chelladurai began a signature campaign saying the church was erected on government land and a body of water.

Chelladurai and other residents filed a complaint against the church, urging them to demolish the unlawful church built on government land. The police, on the other hand, took no action against the church.

A mob broke into his house a month after the incident, destroying his auto parked outside before demolishing the compound. Glass window panes and other items were also shattered by the mob. Following the attacks on his family, Chelladurai filed a second complaint against the Church pastor and 15 other members, alleging that they vandalized his car, house, and compound wall, as well as threatening him with terrible repercussions.

After a storm of protests, the local police finally filed a report and began an investigation. So far, eight people have been detained and are out on bail in this case.”

The residents said that police officers demolished the compound wall without the village administrative officer present. They further said that after arresting Chelladurai, the police pulled down the remaining wall. Chelladurai was arrested for obstructing the officials’ work, according to the village police who arrived later.

Officials from the police department claim Chelladurai was arrested for disrupting their work. The few church officials who were involved in the incident have been released by the police.

IMK chief Arjun Sampath urges TN Minority Welfare Commission to consider Hindus as minorities in Kanyakumari dist

In a petition to Tamil Nadu Minority Welfare Commission, Indu Makkal Katchi (IMK) chief Arjun Sampath has requested the commission to remove Christians from the minority commission list and include Hindus in the list.

He stated in his petition to the Tamil Nadu Minority Welfare Commission, “In Kanyakumari, Hindus have become a minority, while Christians have become the majority. The census data back up this claim. As a result, Hindus in Kanya Kumari should be classified as a minority.”

He added that Hindus in Kanya Kumari should be granted the same protection, benefits, and rights as minorities because Christians have become the majority in the district, and the district’s administration is run by the Church in the villages where Hindus are the minority.

He accused Christian pastors of mobilizing Christians to protest who attend church for prayer and of deciding who Christians should vote for in elections. He claims that church pastors are misleading locals and inciting them to rebel against democratically elected state and central governments.

IIMC survey shows western media has been biased in its coverage of India’s COVID scene

India has consistently been portrayed in a negative light in the western media. Be it the time when ISRO launched Mangalyaan to the Mars or India’s rising stature on global stage after 2014, it is because of the prejudice and the racism that is deeply rooted in the west for many years now, that their media tries to paint a bad image of the country.

With the rise and rise of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the western liberal media has been going all out with their anti-Modi stance.

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication recently conducted a survey on the nature of western media coverage of the spread of the corona virus in India and the handling of the situation.

According to this survey conducted by the IIMC,

  • 82% media persons believe that the coverage of COVID19 pandemic in India by a section of the Western Media is ‘biased’.
  • 69% media persons said India’s image took a beating by such negative coverage, while 56% said such coverage must have negatively influenced the opinion of the Indians living abroad.

  • 71% believe that neutral news is not published.
  • 52% blamed international politics and 47% blamed domestic politics in India
  • 34% said it was a conspiracy by pharma companies internationally
  • 21% said regional politics in Asia is to blame.
  • 63% of the respondents said that they did not share on social media the news of the Western media which had defamed India internationally
  • When asked how they accessed these Western publications/media, they said they used multiple platforms but indicated their preferences as Google News suggestions (59%), YouTube and Twitter (both 40%), Facebook (34%) and Instagram (27%).

IIMC is a premier Institute in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

Director General of IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said that this survey was conducted by the outreach department of the institute in June 2021.

The survey received 529 responses from Indian media persons who included journalists, media scholars and media educators.

The survey included 64% males and 36% female respondents. The respondents were mainly from print, digital and broadcast media.

The journalists who participated in the survey stated that there has been a serious lack of sensitivity and responsibility in the coverage of the COVID19 pandemic in India by the western media. They added that while the western media exercised restraint while covering COVID details in their home countries, they presented the situation in India with undue sensation.

India objects to joint press statement by Pakistan and China on J&K, says CPEC running through illegally occupied territory

India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on Thursday (July 29) strongly rejected references made to Jammu and Kashmir in a recent joint press statement by Pakistan and China and made it very clear that the union territory as well as Ladakh have been and will remain its integral and inalienable part.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi also raised strong objections to the reference made to the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in the statement, saying that the project is in Indian territory that has been illegally occupied by Pakistan.

“As in the past, India categorically rejects any reference to Jammu and Kashmir. The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the union territory of Ladakh has been and will remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” Bagchi said at a media briefing.

“We resolutely oppose any attempts by other countries to change the status quo in areas illegally occupied by Pakistan as also to Pakistan bringing up any material change in Indian territories under its illegal occupation. We call upon parties concerned to cease such actions,” he said.

The CPEC is part of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and from the start, India has been critical of the BRI as the corridor passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The Pakistan-China press statement was issued last Saturday following a meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Chengdu in Sichuan province in China as Pakistani briefed China on the “deterioration of the situation” in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite failing to raise the Kashmir issue on various international platforms, Pakistan has been making concerted efforts to internationalise the Kashmir issue after New Delhi announced in August 2019 to abrogate article 370 that took away the special powers of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state into two union territories.
