BJP issues three-line whip to MPs of both houses to be present on the floor on August 10 and 11

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (August 9) issued a three-line whip to its party Members of Parliament in Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha to be present in the House tomorrow Tuesday (August 10).

“All BJP members in Rajya Sabha are hereby informed that some very important business will be taken up for discussion and passing in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, August 10 and Wednesday, August 11. All members of BJP in Rajya Sabha are therefore requested to be positively present in the House throughout all both days and support the Government,” the BJP said in a notice.

This explicit instruction has sent the opposition into a frenzy as the month of August in the last two years has proven to be the time when the Modi government took some very important decisions.

Right now the opposition has been disturbing the proceedings in the parliament from day one with regards to the Pegasus issue and accusing the government of not allowing any discussions in these troubled times of pandemics.

Kerala Communist govt sponsors free Covid vaccination for Holy Family Church while lakhs wait in queue

In another case of blatant appeasement, the Kerala government had sponsored a free vaccination drive at Holy Family Church in Shakthikulangara (Kollam district) when lakhs of people are waiting for their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines in the state.

There is even an allegation that Kerala Health Minister Veena George was at the forefront for taking the initiative to organise this vaccination drive exclusively for the Christian community.

Reports had also previously emerged of massive foul play in the vaccination drive as preferential treatment was given to a particular community as many common people were unable to book their vaccine slots at the COWIN portal.

One of the alleged accusations is that only CPM activists and their families getting the Covid shots which is not beyond the realm of possibilities.

As per the reports, around 500 people had registered via church received their vaccines at the parish hall as there were messages circulating in the WhatsApp groups related to the Church about free vaccine drive.

It is quite common for religious and charity organisations to organise vaccination drives but it is done after tie-up with private hospitals and these are paid vaccines, but in the Communist state of Kerala, it was the government that sponsored vaccines which were later distributed at a Church parish hall.

Madras HC orders TN govt to maintain status-quo in Archagar recruitment process

The Madras High Court has ordered that the status quo be maintained in a case involving the recruitment of “Archakas” in temples. The issue involves the All India Adi Saiva Sivacharyargal Seva Sangam in T Nagar, which filed a petition asking the court to quash advertisements issued on July 6 this year inviting applications for the posts of Archakas, Odhuvars, and Paricharakar in the State.

It was recommended that Archakas be appointed by those who have completed certificate courses. The petitioner also stated that the State government has been vengeful toward members of the petitioner Sangam and other similar organizations on numerous occasions, demonstrating their malafide purpose.

The petitioner added,” The order is a direct violation of the Sangam members’ and others’ rights. The authorities have failed to recognize that Section 55 of the HRCE Act’s intent cannot be diluted. They have failed to see that the power to appoint Archakas cannot be delegated or assigned to people who are unfamiliar with the Agamas or how temples work.”

Justice Anita Sumanth granted an interim stay on August 5 and said, “The last date for receipt of applications is August 7. Status-quo be maintained thereafter, until further orders.”

The judge subsequently adjourned the case till August 25 and directed the authorities concerned to distribute the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious Institutions Employees (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2020 to the other parties.

‘DMK Govt not able to keep election promises, white paper just an eyewash’: PT chief Dr. Krishnasamy

Head of the Puthiya Tamilagam party Dr. K. Krishnasamy came down heavy on the DMK government which released a ‘white paper’ on the economic condition of the state, stating that the exercise is just an attempt to absolve themselves from the promises they gave during the elections.

He said that the ‘white paper’ is an empty statement looking for reasons as to why the DMK has failed to keep its election promises.

“The white before release before the Tamil Nadu government’s budget was expected to be a crackling firework in the sky but ended up as a flowerpot” he said.

Dr Krishnasamy added that Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan by saying that there can be no zero budget without taxation, he has implied that the coming Tamil Nadu budget will see hike in taxation that will affect the common man.

“The white paper is an attempt by the DMK to blame the AIADMK-BJP governments for its own incompetence.”, Dr. Krishnasamy said.

Kerala: Communist govt books 100 Hindus for flouting COVID norms days after relaxing restrictions for Bakrid

The Communist government in Kerala headed by Pinarayi Vijayan has booked around a hundred devotees including the priest of the Varaikkal Devi temple for making offerings during the ‘Karkitaka Vavu Bali’ festival at the Varakkal Beach in Kozhikode on Sunday (August 8). The Kerala police invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act against the Hindus for performing the animal sacrifice.

Police officials were quoted saying in a report that the priest who was conducting the ritual was given clear instructions not to hold the offering at the beach, but he violated the orders.

Not just this, the Aluva ‘Sivarathri Manappuram’ along the banks of River Periyar in Ernakulam district and Thiruvallam Parasurama temple where people usually throng to perform ‘Bali tharpanam’ ritual wore a deserted look on Sunday as the Pinarayi Vijayan government has intensified the lockdown as the state administration grapples with containing the pandemic.

It is to be noted that the Communist government had given a three day relaxation for Bakrid and placed no restrictions on people congregating and giving qurbani (killing of goats). Even the Supreme Court came down heavy on the Pinarayi Vijayan Government for relaxing the lockdown at a time when the state was seeing a surge in cases. The state currently has the highest number of active cases in India.

Jharkhand Govt drops Sanskrit & Hindi but retains Urdu as language paper for state govt job exams

The state cabinet has cleared a proposal to drop Hindi and Sanskrit from the list of main language papers  for exams to Grade 3 and 4 government jobs conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSCC). Urdu, however, has been retained in the list that has 12 regional languages, including tribal dialects.

A candidate has to mandatorily clear some qualifying papers that will be set in Hindi and English. In addition to those papers, a candidate has to obtain pass marks in any of the 12 language papers. The marks obtained in any of these 12 papers will be added to the marks obtained in the main qualifying papers.

Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo says that the new policy cleared by the state cabinet is discriminatory against Hindi and Sanskrit and is a bid to appease Muslims.

The new recruitment policy also makes it mandatory for general category students to have passed class 10 and 12 from a Jharkhand school.

This new rule, says the BJP, also discriminates against general category candidates since it has been made mandatory for them to pass their board exams from a school in Jharkhand while the same rule does not apply to reserved category candidates.

Islamists in Bangladesh attack Hindu houses and temples

Islamists in Bangladesh have attacked and vandalized 58 Hindu houses and all the temples in Shiali and Gowara Villages in Khulna district.

So far, police have arrested 10 people in this case of vandalism where several Hindu temples, homes, and shops in a village in Khulna were destroyed.

Police have arrested Shariful Islam, Samrat Mollah, Manjurul Alam, Shariful Islam Sheikh, Rana Sheikh, Mominul Islam, Akram Fakhir, Shohel Sheikh, Shamim Sheikh and Jamil Biswas in a raid carried out on Saturday night and the situation in the location is currently under control. Additional police forces were deployed to maintain law and order.

On Saturday, August (7), four Hindu temples, and at least 10 idols of gods and goddesses, six shops, and two homes of the local peaceful Hindu community were vandalized in an attack by unidentified Islamists in a Khulna village.

Apparently, the attacks happened after a heated altercation between two groups of Hindu and Muslim locals on Friday night.

Krishna Gopal Sen, general secretary of Rupsha upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad, told reporters that at least 10 idols at four temples were vandalized during the attacks. “There is high tension in the area now. But the local administration is working to keep the overall situation under control.”

The altercation which later turned into a pogrom started when Hindus in the area were singing Kirtan, a form of devotional songs, during the Esha prayers according to local mosque’s Imam Maulana Nazim Uddin.

“The situation had gotten out of hand a bit after someone shoved me after I urged them to not sing in front of the mosque during prayers. However, the situation was resolved after police arrived and intervened,” he said.

US long range bombers and drones fly over Pakistani airspace to attack Taliban in Afghanistan

The largest Islamic terror group in Afghanistan, the Taliban suffered massive numbers of heavy casualties after the United States sent B-52 bombers supported by AC-130 Spectre gunships for close air support to Afghanistan in a bid to stop the Taliban insurgents who are marching towards three key cities.

The B-52s are now bombing the Taliban as they fly into Afghanistan through Pakistan airspace from an airbase in Qatar and have hit targets around Kandahar, Herat, and Lashkar Gah in Helmand province, sources told The Times.

Such measures had to be taken because the situation in situation Afghanistan was getting dire, as the Taliban seized more territory across the country after the U.S.-led forces withdraw. As per a Pentagon assessment, the Taliban now controls half of Afghanistan’s 419 district centers.

On Friday, the Taliban seized Zaranj in Nimroz, capturing its first provincial capital and it also managed to assassinate the government’s chief media officer, Dawa Khan Menapal, on the same day in Kabul.

America had to deploy its bombers and gunships because the Afghan forces simply could not stop the onslaught without the US support and now the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress which is a long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bomber, which can carry up to 32 tonnes of bombs is giving the Taliban a moment of pause.

Also, involved in the bombing operation are the armed Reaper drones and AC-130 Spectre gunships as the young Afghan air force is still reliant on US-supplied aircraft, which are now running out of spares and trained technicians after the departure of the US.

As per reports, at least seven Afghan pilots had been killed while others are reportedly exhausted after relentless missions. security analyst and retired colonel Mohammad Hassan told Arab News, “It is getting worse day by day here. The cancelation of flights to Herat and the fact that America has back started using B-52 are not good signs. It will cause more panic among people at large and shows the precariousness of the situation.”

PM Modi to chair UNSC High-Level Open Debate on “Enhancing Maritime Security: A Case For International Cooperation”

modi CERAWeek award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the High-level Open Debate on ‘Enhancing Maritime Security – A Case for International Cooperation’ on 9th August at 5.30 PM IST via video conferencing.

The meeting is expected to be attended by several Heads of State & Government of member states of the United Nations Security Council, and high level briefers from the UN System and key Regional Organizations. The Open Debate will focus on ways to effectively counter maritime crime and insecurity and strengthened coordination in the maritime domain.

The UN Security Council has discussed and passed resolutions on different aspects of maritime security and maritime crime. However, this will be the first time that maritime security will be discussed in a holistic manner as an exclusive agenda item in such a high level open debate. Given that no country alone can address the diverse aspects of maritime security, it is important to consider this subject in a holistic manner in the United Nations Security Council. A comprehensive approach to Maritime Security should protect and support legitimate maritime activities, while countering traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime domain.

The Oceans have played an important part in India’s history right from the time of the Indus Valley Civilization. Based on our civilizational ethos that sees the seas as an enabler of shared peace and prosperity, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi put forward the vision of SAGAR – an acronym for ‘Security and Growth for all in the Region’ in 2015.  This vision focuses on cooperative measures for sustainable use of the oceans, and provides a framework for a safe, secure, and stable maritime domain in the region.  In 2019, at the East Asia Summit, this initiative was further elaborated through the Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative (IPOI) with a focus on seven pillars of maritime security including Maritime Ecology; Maritime Resources; Capacity Building and Resource Sharing; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management; Science, Technology and Academic Cooperation; and Trade Connectivity and Maritime Transport.

Narendra Modi, would be the first Indian Prime Minister to preside over a UN Security Council Open Debate. The event will be broadcast live on the United Nations Security Council website and can be watched from 1730 hrs IST/0800 NYT.
