EVR who demanded separate Dravida Naadu and called Aug 15 as Black Day considered as ‘freedom fighter’ by Doordarshan

In a blatant distortion of history, the name of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his admirers) has been found in the list of freedom fighters prepared by Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio Chennai for production of programmes for ‘Azadi Ka Amrimahotsav’ marking the the 75th year of independence.

The list comprising of 75 freedom fighters mentions ‘Periyar E.V. Ramasamy’ in the fifth place while pushing the actual freedom fighters like Vanchinathan, Tirupur Kumaran, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Subramania Siva to 15th, 16th, 18th and 20th positions respectively.

The list leaves out many of the prominent freedom fighters of the region like ‘Jai Hind’ Chempakaraman Pillai, Veeramangai Kuyili, Va.Ve.Su. Iyer, etc.

E.V. Ramasamy Naicker is a rabid anti-Hindu bigot known for his pro-British stance when the Indian Freedom Struggle was its peak. He pleaded with the British to not leave India and pledged allegiance to them asking the Madras Presidency to be ruled from London. He even went to the extent of demanding a separate Dravida Naadu and had met Mohammad Ali Jinnah regarding the same.

Another personality mentioned in the list having no connection with the freedom movement is Marshal Nesamony. Marshal Nesamony hails from the Travancore kingdom and was never in the freedom movement against the British. He was part of the movement to annex Kanyakumari district to Tamil Nadu from the Travancore State at the later stage after opposing the same initially.

The Vedic Science Research Centre, a research think-tank from Chennai has written to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to correct the glaring fallacy.

Australia to cancel test match with Afghan men’s team over Taliban banning sports for women

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan and the new theocratic Islamic regime declared that the Islamic Emirate will not allow women to play sport, it is most likely that the first Test match between the men’s teams of Australia and Afghanistan will be called off.

Taliban government’s cultural commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq, told Australian broadcaster SBS News that cricket was not permitted for women under Islamic law and, “Islam and the Islamic Emirate do not allow women to play cricket or play the kind of sports where they get exposed. “In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow women to be seen like this. It is the media era, and there will be photos and videos, and then people watch it.”

He then added that the Islamic regime will not change its stance on the women’s game even if that means the cancellation of the Hobart Test: “Even for this, if we face challenges and problems, we have fought for our religion so that Islam is to be followed. We will not cross Islamic values even if it carries opposite reactions. We will not leave our Islamic rules.”

Immidietlay a statement released on Thursday (September 9), by Cricket Australia confirmed it would be unable to proceed with the planned Test at Hobart from November 27 and the statement read, “Driving the growth of women’s cricket globally is incredibly important to Cricket Australia,” the statement said. “Our vision for cricket is that it is a sport for all and we support the game unequivocally for women at every level. If recent media reports that women’s cricket will not be supported in Afghanistan are substantiated, Cricket Australia would have no alternative but to not host Afghanistan for the proposed Test Match due to be played in Hobart,”.

Australia’s Federal Sports Minister Senator Richard Colbeck urged the International Cricket Council to take a stand against the Taliban and during an interview with ABC Radio on Thursday, Senator Colbeck said, “The Taliban’s attitudes towards women and their individual rights should not be accepted by the international sporting community,”.

“Excluding women from the sport at any level is unacceptable. We urge international sport authorities, including the International Cricket Council, to take a stand against this appalling ruling. At the end of the day, International Cricket is controlled by the ICC and it’s not just about this Test match. The ICC is going to have to make a decision about Afghanistan’s membership.”

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed concern over the Taliban regime’s ban on women in sports that could foreshadow further events after the completion of the T20 World Cup.

Also, to hold full-member ICC status, nations must field both men’s and women’s teams and in lew of the Taliban banning women’s cricket, the Afghanistan men’s team’s involvement in the T20 tournament in the UAE and Oman is now under question.

“The ICC is committed to the long-term growth of women’s cricket and despite the cultural and religious challenges in Afghanistan, steady progress has been made in this area since Afghanistan’s admission as a Full Member in 2017,” the ICC statement said.

“The ICC has been monitoring the changing situation in Afghanistan and is concerned to note recent media reports that women will no longer be allowed to play cricket.”

When Afghanistan was granted men’s Test status in 2017 the ICC had also made it very clear that it is important to field a women’s team provided they committed to growing the game for women and girls.

UP Govt to voluntarily retire police officers found incompetent, indisciplined and corrupt

These orders were issued by the Additional Director General (ADG), Establishment, Sanjay Singhal and as per the order, all police departmental heads and district police chiefs should complete the process of screening police personnel from the rank of constable to inspector based on their ‘performance’ or ‘non-performance’.

The state government made it very clear that this policy was initiated two years ago to weed out incompetent, indisciplined, and corrupt police personnel.

ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “This screening should not be considered that the employees will be given retirement forcibly, but it has been done as per their utility in the service,”.

Mehbooba Mufti and Farooq Abdhula make pro-Taliban remarks

After the Taliban took over Afghanistan the ousted leaders of Jammu and Kashmir have now started to ratchet things in the valley and leading from the front is former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who said if the Taliban follow ‘real’ Islamic Sharia in Afghanistan where rights for women, children and elderly people are specified, they can become an example for the world.

“Taliban are emerging as a reality. They must not rule Afghanistan like they did in their first term,” she said.

Mehbooba Mufti who is the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said the previous regime of the Taliban from 1996 to 2001 was against humanity and human rights, but this time if the Taliban follow real Sharia rule in Afghanistan as mentioned in the Holy Quran which, specifies rights for women, children and the elderly and govern as per the model of Madina given by the prophet things will be lot different.

“If they (Taliban) adopt that model, then only the countries of the world will do business with them. But if God forbid they follow the methods used by them in the nineties, it will be very difficult for Afghanistan and the rest of the world,” she said.

The other top leader of J&K National Conference leader Farooq Abdhula has said, “Afghanistan is a separate country. Now those who have come to power need to run the government. I hope that they will do justice to everyone and run a good government in which they will respect human rights and run the government in accordance with Islamic laws. I would like to add that they should try to maintain friendly relationships with all nations.”

Meanwhile, photos have emerged of the Taliban beating journalists that are now making the rounds in social media and there are also videos of Taliban jihadists beating women. Also, the Taliban have switched off the internet in areas where protests are being held by women fearing it will be seen by the world.

All male members of IUML dissolve women’s wing of Muslim Students Federation over sexual harassment issue

After the women cadre of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a Congress party’s ally in Kerala refused to withdraw their sexual harassment complaint filed with the Kerala Women’s Commission against some of the male MSF leaders, the all-male leadership on Wednesday, September 8, disbanded the state committee of Haritha- the women’s wing of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF), over ‘gross indiscipline.

The women members had accused male MSF leaders, who allegedly used derogatory remarks against them but the Muslim League state general secretary PMA Salam announced that a decision was reached during the party’s high power committee meeting in Malappuram, which concluded that the Haritha leaders’ “gross indiscipline” had prompted the party leadership to dissolve Haritha’s current committee.

However, the women members of Haritha have decided not to take this lying down and have threatened to move the court after the parent organisation Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), dissolved the state committee for refusing to take back its complaint against their male counterparts.

The complaint was filed by all the ten members of the state committee of Haritha-MSF who had filed a complaint with the State Women’s Commission against a couple of their male counterparts for allegedly using derogatory remarks and abusive language during a Haritha-MSF state committee meeting held in Kozhikode on June 22.

According to the Haritha leaders, MSF leaders referred to them as “infertile feminists” and PK Navas allegedly responded by saying that “even prostitutes” have opinions, and so the Haritha wing leaders may express their views.

After that Haritha had approached the commission but it did not receive any support from the League leadership. But later when the Muslim League did intervene, MSF state president PK Navas, who had allegedly said even prostitutes have opinion expressed remorse but maintained he did not say anything with the wrong intention.

Afterwards, the League ordered the Haritha to withdraw its complaint to the women’s commission or suffer the consequences.

MSF National Vice President Fathima Tahliya in a news conference in August had said that “the humiliation and emotional pain caused by the disparaging remarks prompted Haritha’s 10 state committee leaders to take action against MSF’s male office-bearers.”

IAF to receive 56 C-295 multi-role tactical transport aircraft

The Indian Air Force’s (IAF) decade-long wait for a multi-role tactical transport aircraft is finally over as the government on Wednesday (September 8) cleared the long-pending, nearly USD 3 billion deal for procuring 56 C-295MW transport aircraft. The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that cleared the procurement.

Once inducted into the IAF will replace its ageing IAF fleet of Avro 748 transport aircraft that first flew in 1961 and this will also be a big boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative as India will receive 16 aircraft in a flyaway condition from Spain within 48 months of the signing of the contract and the remaining 48 aircraft will be manufactured in India by the TATA Consortium within 10 years of signing the contract.

All 56 aircraft will be installed with the indigenous Electronic Warfare Suite and the project will give a boost to the burgeoning aerospace industry in India In an interview with ThePrint this February, Rémi Maillard, president of Airbus India and the company’s managing director for South Asia, said the manufacturing of the aircraft domestically “will be the trigger to develop a total aerospace ecosystem in India”.

The new transport carriers dimensions are smaller than the IAF’s fleet of C-130Js, C-17s, and IL-76s, however, the C-295s can take off and land at many airstrips and airports where the larger aircraft can’t.

“A large number of detail parts, sub-assemblies and major component assemblies of aero structure are scheduled to be manufactured in India. The programme will act as a catalyst in employment generation in the aerospace ecosystem of the country and is expected to generate 600 highly skilled jobs directly, over 3,000 indirect jobs and an additional 3,000 medium-skill employment opportunities with more than 42.5 lakh man hours of work within the aerospace and defence sector of India,” the defence ministry said.

“It will involve development of specialized infrastructure in form of hangars, buildings, aprons and taxiway. During the process of manufacturing in India, it is expected that all the suppliers of TATA Consortium who will be involved in special processes, will gain and maintain globally recognized National Aerospace and Defence Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) accreditation,” the ministry added.

“Dude…I crap bigger than you”: MIT-educated TN Fin Min PTR tells a netizen

In an appalling incident, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan stooped to a new low unbecoming of the position he holds by making disgusting remarks while engaging with a netizen online.

On September 7, Palanivel Thiagarajan had shared a news clipping on his Twitter timeline about how he took ‘immediate action’ to make electricity available to 50 families living in the JJ Nagar locality in Madurai who did not have electricity for more than 20 years.

As usual, PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan resorted to blowing his own trumpet about how he had already ‘achieve enough’ and made a career in politics following his forefathers.

Responding to the above tweet, a netizen going by the name “NRI Tamizhan” took a jibe at the Minister patting himself on the back about his ‘achievements’ pointing to Palanivel Thiagarajan’s innings at Lehmann Brothers, which collapsed during the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis.

https://twitter.com/nrithamizhan/status/1435228434796527622

Stooping to a new low, the MIT-educated Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu belonging to an illustrious family of politicians said “Dude… I crap bigger than you.” and went on to call the netizen a ‘scum’, ‘cultist’ and ‘minion’.

May be a Twitter screenshot of 1 person and text that says "Dr Thiaga Rajan (PTR) @ptrmadurai 15h Dude...I crap bigger than you 2 bets (just so can debunk the micro scale of Cultist scum like you).... 1) mentored at least 100 people who have 10x better careers than you 2) ran 100X the scale of operation than you'll ever work for in your life Up for it. minion?"

This is not the first time the DMK Minister has made such crass remarks in public. Palaniel Thiagarajan has been making headlines for matters unrelated to the portfolio ever since he became Finance Minister.

He has made a number of contentious statements against different public personalities and later issuing statements to clarify his position.

Very recently, he had unleashed abuses and made personal attacks on Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan who had called out the former for insulting Goa during the 43rd GSR Council meeting. Before that, he had picked fight with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev over the latter’s demand for freeing temples from state control. This had led to spat with two other public personalities namely former Infosys director Mohandas Pai and The Hindu’s Malini Parthasarathy.

“EVR said cloth prices were increasing because of SC women wearing jacket, Shame to mark his birth anniversary as Social Justice Day”: Arjun Sampath

Indu Makkal Katchi head Arjun Sampath launched a blistering attack on the DMK government over its announcement of marking September 17, the birth date of E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (known as ‘Periyar’ by his admirers) as ‘Social Justice Day’.

He said that if September 17 had to be announced as ‘Social Justice Day’, it should be done in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is the true social justice warrior who had lifted the poor and vulnerable by providing them with bank accounts, LPG, houses, tap water, etc along with ensuring 27% reservation to OBCs in medical seats.

“EVR called Tamil language as barbaric language and Tamil people as barbarians. He had said that prices of cloth were going up because Scheduled Caste women had begun wearing blouse. On the other hand, PM Modi is praising Tamil language wherever he goes and is empowering women and girl children through his schemes.”, Arjun Sampath said.

Adding further, the IMK chief said “EVR wanted to target the Brahmins only while ensuring that status quo prevailed for the castes that had ritually lower status than his own caste. He had married his own adopted daughter for his own benefit at the age of 72. How is he a social justice warrior?”

He also pointed out that EVR’s own protégés – C.N. Annadurai and Karunanidhi – themselves had heaped abuses on him.

The IMK chief said that while the DMK may celebrate the man with their bogus claims of EVR working for social justice, the BJP should mark the day of Social Justice Day in the name of PM Modi.

VCK chief Thirumavalavan insulted during protest for caste census, Mic snatched and made to leave stage

VCK MP Thirumavalavan praising Hamas

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thol. Thirumavalavan was humiliated and sent down stage during a  protest organized by the Social Justice Federation of 146 BC, 115 MBC/DNT communities demanding for caste census.

Thirumavalavan had come to take part in the protest that called on the central and state governments to conduct a caste-wise census and provide reservation to all communities.

The Chidambaram MP who had climbed the stage to speak in support of taking caste-wise census was insulted when one of the organizers snatched the mike from him and asked him to get off the stage.

The crowd below the stage chanted “Don’t allow, don’t allow, don’t allow these politicians” raising their objection to Thirumavalavan’s participation.

“We’ve decided in the general committee that only those who belong to our community should talk about our community. You are from a party. So, you know about the results of the general committee meeting. Therefore, we humbly ask Thirumavalavan to step down from the stage.”, the organizer announced from the stage as the crowd cheered.

Swallowing the humiliation, Thirumavalavan got off the stage and proceeded to his car. Later he can be seen getting angry at one of the member in the crowd while sitting in his car. He later calls alleged farmer ‘Audi’ Ayyakannu who had also accompanied Thirumavalavan in the stage to ask him who was the person who had asked him to get off stage.

India plans to acquire 350 aircraft in 20 years to strengthen Air Force

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is targeting to acquire about 350 aircraft in the next two decades, revealed Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria because India needs to develop asymmetric capabilities to strengthen the IAF’s total capacity keeping into consideration the challenges that the country faces from China.

“Looking at the northern neighbour, we have to have niche technologies which must be built in-house by our own industry for reasons of security,” the Chief of Air Staff was quoted in a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

However, the procurement of 350 aircraft in the next 20 years is still only a ‘rough projection’ and it is important to indigenously develop Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA) project which has infused confidence in the domestic aerospace industry and the Air Chief Marshal expressed that the aerospace industry has great potential to grow in the future.

Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria particularly singled out and appreciated the personnel of the Air Force Station in Chandigarh for carrying out the heavy lift and air maintenance tasks and also conducting swift air mobilisation amidst the contingency in eastern Ladakh when visited the station recently.

It is quite clear that if India does acquire approximately 350 aircraft in the next 20 years, it would mean that top defence contractors like Lockheed Martin, Boeing and other top weapons manufacturers will look at this development very closely.
