Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh missing, presumably left the country

In an embarrassing yet startling development, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has gone missing and is presumed to have fled the country.

The former Mumbai police commissioner was handling the bomb scare near the home of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani earlier this year but at the same time questions were being asked with regards to a series of extortion cases.

According to Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil who said, “Along with the Union Home Ministry, we’re also searching for his whereabouts. I’ve heard something like that but as a government officer, he can’t go abroad without government clearance. We’ve issued a Lookout Circular and if he went away, then it is not good,”.

“Whether it is a minister, officer, or Chief Minister, there are limitations and without the permission of the government of India one cannot go outside the country. No one can cross these limitations. What action can be taken will have to be discussed with the centre. Maharashtra government is looking for him and once he is found we will decide,” the Home Minister added.

On February 25 an SUV was found parked near with gelatin sticks in Carmichael Road, near the residence of Mukesh Ambani. The car belonged to one Mansukh Hiren whose body was later found in the Kalwa creek in Thane and postmortem confirmed it was a case of murder.

Already, notorious Mumbai police officer, Sachin Waze, known as an encounter specialist has been named as the prime conspirator in the case of planting the explosives and the subsequent murder of Mansukh Hiren.

Waze who was suspended from the police force for years was known to be close to Param Bir Singh and despite being just an Assistant Police Inspector he had direct access to him.

In March, the National Investigation Agency (NIA). arrested Waze but the NIA chargesheet did not name Param Bir Singh as an accused but there are now several revelations in the chargesheet that simply could not be overlooked.

After too much pressure, Singh was transferred to the Home Guard department, and later he made sensational accusations against then state home minister Anil Deshmukh of asking police officers to collect bribes from hotel and bar owners. This created a massive political uproar in the state.

Subsequently, Deshmukh had to step down from his post as the CBI registered a case against him and till date, Deshmukh has also not responded to summons by the Enforcement Directorate which is probing money-laundering allegations against him.

SC pulls up TTD over plea alleging ‘wrongful and irregular’ observance of poojas

Non-Hindu Employees Of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam To Be Transferred To State Government Pool

The Supreme Court has directed the ‘Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam’ (TTD) to respond to a plea of a devotee who had alleged in the petition that the rituals were not being done for Lord Venkateswara properly and that the ritual procedures that were being followed were ‘wrongful and irregular’.

The plea had stated that the temple authority has been performing sevas namely, i) Abhishekam Seva, 2) Thomala Seva, 3) Arjitha Brahmostavam 4) Yekanta Utsavalu (Srivari Varshika Brahmotsavams – 2020) and 5) Maha Laghu Darshan, in a wrongful and irregular procedure. The PIL had prayed for the issuance of direction to the Devasthanam to rectify the method of conducting the rituals.

The bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana was hearing an appeal of a devotee against the order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court which refused to entertain the oublic interest litigation noting that the “procedure of conducting rituals is the exclusive domain of the Devasthanam and cannot be a matter of adjudication unless it impacts secular or civil rights of others”.

Though the apex court was initially hesitant to entertain the plea, Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli, later sought a response from the counsel of the temple management.

During the brief hearing, the CJI also conversed in Telugu with petitioner Srivari Daadaa and asked him to be patient and not threaten the apex court with urgent listing of the plea.

“We are all devotees of Balaji and expect that all rituals will be conducted according to the traditions,” the CJI said.

The TTD has been given a weeks time to file a response to the petitioner’s allegations.

France to shutdown 6 Mosques for spreading hate against Jews and homosexuals

As there is a rise in Islamic radicalism all over Europe, France has taken a bold move to shut six mosques and break up several associations suspected of producing radical Islamic propaganda, Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin said on Tuesday (September 28).

Darmanin told Le Figaro newspaper that places of worship, “suspected of being radical and flagged by the intelligence services had been checked since November 2020. Of those, action to shut down six in five different departments across France had been launched,”.

The French government is also looking into the dissolution of the Islamist publishers Nawa and the Black African Defence League (LDNA) because it incites the extermination of the Jews and legitimises the stoning of homosexuals.

Although LDNA is an anti sematic and organised a protest against police violence in front of the US embassy in Paris in June last year.

Last week, the Council of State, France’s highest administrative court, approved the government’s move to dissolve the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) and Baraka City.

All such changes took place after the brutal murder of a teacher, Samuel Paty, who was targeted following an online campaign against him for having shown controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed published by the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo during a civics class.

Paty’s murder sent a shockwave across France and there was universal condemnation against this murder in the name of Islam and French President Emmanuel Macron said that in France people have the right to blaspheme.

India deploys M777 Ultra Light Howitzers at the LAC, China calls it arms race

In two new developments, firstly China has reacted very strongly after India deployed the US-origin M777 Ultra Light Howitzers on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) using Chinook heavy-lift helicopters which is force multiplier, and second, India’s Defence Ministry has approved proposals worth Rs 13,165 crore for modernisation of armed forces

After news emerged that China was developing infrastructure at breakneck speed at possible incursion points at the LAC, India has deployed offensive weapons systems to counter China. Reacting to this development Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying accused India of pursuing “forward policy” and said that China “opposes any arms race”.

“The Indian side has long pursued the “forward policy” and illegally crossed the LAC to encroach on China’s territory, which is the root cause of tension in the China-India border situation,” Hua said.

“China opposes any arms race in the disputed border areas for the purpose of competition over control. We have always been firm in safeguarding national territorial sovereignty and security, and committed to peace and stability in the China-India border areas,” she added.

The second development is that the Indian Ministry of Defence has approved proposals including for Advanced Light Helicopters, guided munition and rocket ammunition valued at Rs 13,165 crore on Wednesday (September 29).

“The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in its meeting held under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Capital Acquisitions proposals for modernization and operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces amounting to approximately Rs 13,165 cr,” read the official ministry statement.

As China is still not keen in de-escalation at the LAC, India has deployed three regiments (18 guns make an artillery regiment) of M777 howitzers to deter Chinese design after the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army got into a fight at the Galwan Valley in 2020, in which an unspecified number of Chinese soldiers were killed.

Meanwhile, India is also developing its infrastructure near the LAC as the Border Roads Organisation is working to ensure proper road network is available for the army to move quickly to forward areas.

According to Lieutenant General T K Chawla, Director-General Artillery, “training is going on in moving guns from one sector to another with the Chinook helicopters.”

Apart from M777 howitzers, the Indian Army has deployed a large number of older 105mm field guns at the LAC with China.

“The 105mm field guns are still very much robust with very high angle of firing which is so very essential in the mountains. Bulk of the deployment in Eastern Ladakh is largely of this calibre,” Lieutenant General Chawla said. He added that the 105mm field guns would be replaced when new howitzers have been inducted in sufficient numbers.

Under the Make in India initiative, the Indian Army is inducting Dhanush guns built by the Ordnance Factory Board, and Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) which is undergoing trials and as per information released by the MoD, of the Rs 13,165 cr to be spent in modernisation, Rs 11,486 crore (87 per cent) will be from domestic sources.

For operational preparedness, the DAC has given the approval of procurement of 25 LH Mark III helicopters from HAL under Buy Indian-IDDMA at an approximate cost of Rs 3,850 and procurement of Terminally Guided Munition (TGM) and HEPF/RHE Rocket Ammunition under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category at an approximate cost of Rs 4,962 crore from domestic sources.

The Kerala police department has asked the Pinarayi Vijayan Communist-led Kerala government to ban the circulation of 14th-century Arabic text “Mashari al-Ashwaq Ila Masari al-Ushaaq”, better known as the ‘book of jihad’.

According to Kerala police, the book motivates youngsters in joining Islamic terrorist organisations and now the state has formed a three-member committee to scrutinise its content.

As per an order (GO (Rt) No. 2628/2021/Home) issued by the home (secret section) that deals with sensitive matters and intelligence inputs, on September 25, a committee has been constituted to examine whether the book contains any incriminating material which is in conflict with any law in force and to make recommendations accordingly. US Senate wants report on role of Pakistan in toppling Afghan govt and Panjshir Valley attack

us pakistan afghanistan taliban biden senate imran khan

In a development that could be detrimental to Pakistan, legislation has been introduced in the United States Senate seeking a report from the Secretary of State Antony Blinken about his assessment of Pakistan’s role in the Taliban offensive that led to the toppling of the US-backed Afghan government.

The US Senate also wants a detailed report on the support given to the Taliban offensive in Panjshir Valley, prompting Islamabad to term the move as ‘unwarranted’.

The ‘Afghanistan Counterterrorism, Oversight and Accountability Act’, introduced by 22 Republican senators on Tuesday (September 30), seeks to impose sanctions on the Taliban and any foreign governments that support the hardline Islamic group that has now imposed Sharia law in the country.

Now the Senate wants assessment form the Secretary of State about Pakistan’s role in supporting the Taliban from 2001-2020, and the logistical support extended to the Taliban against Panjshir Valley and the Afghan resistance.

In a response to media queries about the draft bill introduced by the US Senators, the Foreign Office in Islamabad said that the proposed legislative measures were ‘uncalled for and counterproductive’.

“The legislation includes references to Pakistan that are completely unwarranted. We find all such references inconsistent with the spirit of Pakistan-US cooperation on Afghanistan since 2001, including facilitation of the Afghan peace process and during the recent evacuations of American and other nationals from Afghanistan,” the statement said.

Pakistan again used the old formula wherein it said that Pakistan has consistently maintained that there was no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan and that long-term sustainable peace in Afghanistan could only be achieved through engagement and dialogue.

The Foreign Office also added that Pakistan plays a very important role in the sustained security cooperation with the United States and that be would critical in dealing with any future terrorist threat in the region.
