2 DMK MPs commit crime, 1 sent to judicial remand & another absconding, netizens call out TN media’s silence

In two separate incidents, two leaders of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, both of whom are Members of Parliament have been accused of committing serious crime with one of them being sent to judicial remand for murder.

Earlier yesterday (October 11), DMK MP from Cuddalore TRVS Ramesh who has been accused of murdering a 55 year old man surrendered before a court in Panruti after being on the run for several days.

The deceased named Govindaraj who was working at a cashew factory owned by DMK MP Ramesh was found dead a few weeks ago with injuries marked all over his body. He was allegedly thrashed to death by the DMK MP and his men inside the MP’s office room in the factory.

In another incident, S. Gnanathiraviam, the DMK MP from Tirunelveli along with his men carried out a homicidal attack on a BJP worker on 8th October. Bhaskaran, a BJP functionary was was having his dinner at one AVM Hotel in Kavalkinaru near Valliyur when the DMK MP barged in and started attacking him violently. They also broke the CCTV camera in the premises and took it along with them.

However, the mainstream media in Tamil Nadu in both English and Tamil have maintained stoic silence over these two incidents.

DMK-friendly digital news outlets like The News Minute which claims to be the ‘voice of the oppressed’ and torchbearers of human rights have not even published a news item on the abuse of power by Tirunelveli DMK MP.

Netizens and politicians called out the double-standards of such media outlets and lashed out at them for being lapdogs of the DMK.

While the atrocities committed by these two DMK MPs should have been the subject of primetime TV debates, many mainstream and supposedly ‘neutral’ Tamil news channels had a topic completely unrelated topic about the AIADMK.

Many pointed out that had it been a crime where even a normal cadre of the AIADMK or BJP was involved, these media outlets would have pounced on the matter.

No truce achieved in border disengagement at Ladakh

During the 13th round of Corps Commander level talks with China in Moldo-Chushul on Sunday (10 October), the Indian Army said in a statement no forward movement was made on the issue of disengagement at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh.

After the talks, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China accused India of making “unreasonable and unrealistic demands,” and according to the Communist Parties People’s Daily the spokesperson of China’s Western Theatre Command said, “India still insisted on the unreasonable and unrealistic demands, which made the negotiations more difficult,”.

“China hopes the Indian side will not misjudge the situation, cherish the hard-won situation in the China-India border areas, show sincerity and take actions, and work with China to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the border areas,” the spokesperson added.

However, before the talks on Sunday, there were reports that the two sides were close to a deal on disengagement of troops in the Hot Springs area or Patrolling Point 15, which lies around 30 km north of Gogra. But this is not new because before talks China always talks of disengagement but after the meeting, it blames the lack of progress on India.

The Indian statement reads that the Chinese side did not come up with any “forward looking proposals” on the issue of disengagement and was “not agreeable” to India’s “constructive suggestions”

“The meeting thus did not result in resolution of the remaining areas,” the statement issued by the Indian Army read with regards to the resolution of issues at the remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh.

However, both India and China have agreed to maintain communications and also to maintain stability, and the statement further reads, “It is our expectation that the Chinese side will take into account the overall perspective of bilateral relations and will work towards early resolution of the remaining issues while fully abiding by bilateral agreements and protocols.”.

China has been building shelters and other infrastructure to sustain its deployments at breakneck speed at a time when the ‘LoCisation’ of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) looks increasingly inevitable.

Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane said, “if they continue to stay there through the second winter, it definitely means that we will be in a kind of LC (Line of Control) situation (referring to the Indian and Pakistani deployments on the LoC), though not an active LC as is there on the western front,”.

On China’s continuous development of infrastructure to maintain its deployments along the LAC, General Naravane said at the Indian Today conclave said, “Yes, it is a matter of concern that the large-scale build-up has occurred and continues to be in place, and to sustain that kind of a build-up, there has been an equal amount of infrastructure development on the Chinese side,”.

General Naravane made it very clear that if the PLA chose to stay so will the Indian Army and will be keeping a close watch on all these developments.

‘Won’t cooperate with US, will deal with Islamic State on our own’: Taliban

25 Islamist Terrorists Who Prove Education Doesn't Prevent Radicalization jihadi terror

As the US contemplates future actions in Afghanistan, a new problem has emerged wherein the Taliban has refused to cooperate with the United States to contain extremist groups in Afghanistan including the Islamic State (IS) which claimed responsibility for some recent terror attacks.

At the same time, the Taliban has warned the US not to “destabilise” the regime during their first face-to-face talks since the US withdrawal.

The Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said, Mr Muttaqi’s comments come as the Taliban attempt to re-establish their rule in Afghanistan, 20 years after the hardline Islamists were driven out by the US-led invasion.

“We clearly told them that trying to destabilise the government in Afghanistan is good for no one,” Mr Muttaqi told the Afghan state news agency Bakhtar after talks in Qatar capital Doha.

“Good relations with Afghanistan are good for everyone. Nothing should be done to weaken the existing government in Afghanistan which can lead to problems for the people,” he said in a recorded statement translated by AFP.

This statement comes just days ahead of the meeting between the senior US and Taliban officials in Qatar’s Doha next week as officials from both sides have said issues include reining in extremist groups and the evacuation of foreign citizens and Afghans from the country will be discussed.

The Taliban which is in dire need of international aid has signaled flexibility on evacuations, reports Indian Express. However, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen has told the Associated Press that they wouldn’t be cooperating with the US to go after the IS.

Shaheen made it very clear that “We are able to tackle Daesh independently,” and will not tolerate American any over the horizon drone strikes in his country.

Several terrorist attacks in Afghanistan have taken place in the last couple of months and the most recent is the suicide bombing that killed 46 minority Shiite Muslims and wounded dozens as they prayed in a mosque which IS claimed responsibility for a recent.

China asks Haqqani Network to handover Uyghur Islamic fighters from Afghanistan

There is trouble brewing in Afghanistan between the Haqqani Network and China, as the latter has demanded that the Taliban break relations with The Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) and fulfill the promise it had made.

The Chinese spy chief asked Sirajuddin Haqqani for the extradition of prominent members of Islamic militant outfit ETIM. Also, demanding their handover was the Chinese Ambassador in Afghanistan who said, “Where have the members of the ETIM gone after leaving Afghanistan? How many of them are staying in the country? “.

However, the Taliban has maintained that they have asked the ETIM fighters to leave Afghanistan but this has not been verified by the various intelligence reports that suggest otherwise as these small number of hardcore Islamists pose a threat to China’s security in the restive Xinjiang province.

According to Chinese state media, the Global Times, “Approximately 500 fighters of the group operate in the north and north-east of Afghanistan, primarily in Raghistan and Warduj districts, Badakhshan, with financing based in Raghistan.

China is however apprehensive because it knows that the Taliban will most likely not hand over the ETIM members as they would face certain death. Also, it should be noted that the Taliban did not hand over al-Qaeda leader and 9/11 terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden to the Americans

Meanwhile, at the United Nations, China raised the issue of ETIM and said that the United States decision to remove the ETIM from its Terrorist Exclusion List in October last year was tantamount to shielding the group which the UN had designated as a terror organisation.

“We call for the unity and collaboration of the international community to prevent the ETIM and other terrorist forces from festering in Afghanistan and to prevent the country from again becoming a haven and a fountainhead of terrorist activities,” the state-affiliated media China Daily quoted Geng as saying.

China along with Pakistan was among the few countries which kept its embassy open during the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan as there is already discussion underway for the extension of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) within Afghanistan as the project is now under constant attacks by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an ally of the Taliban.

It is ironic that China is asking the Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, who himself is a designated international terrorist with a bounty of $10 million to extradite ETIM members to Beijing. “It’s hard to see a wanted man turning over someone who is wanted for similar reasons, “says an Afghan journalist.
