‘Dalit Christian’ Quint Columnist Blames ‘Brahmin Neighbour’ For Losing Internet

Shalin Maria Lawrence, a self-proclaimed writer and an alleged activist who also comes across as a DMK supporter has once again stoked controversy.

In a tweet, Shalin Maria Lawrence alleged that her wifi connection stopped working becasuse her ‘Brahmin neighbour’ messed with the cables which was passing through the latter’s house. She said that since the ‘Brahmin neighbour’ did not want the WiFi connection running through her house she tampered with the cables because of which her internet stopped working.

She then claimed that her ‘Brahmin neighbour ‘called the service provider and had her box relocated.

She then alleged that the service provider heeded the neighbor’s advice and disabled her WiFi, leaving her without Internet for more than a week.

Lawrence further went on to claim that her neighbor’s actions are a “clear violation” of the “SC/ST” protection laws, but she cannot file a case under the Act since she is a Christian Dalit who is not covered by it.

Netizens began questioning her motives of bringing in the caste identity and her desire to invoke the SC/ST law in what appears to be a common neighbourhood quarrel. Her intentions to create a Brahmin-Dalit divide invited the ire of netizens, prompting her to withdraw the tweet.

https://twitter.com/cogitoiam/status/1576887770781745152

Unable to answer the questions, she played the victim card once again, claiming that she cannot tolerate casteist abuse and bullying by “Brahmins and RSS supporting Shudras”, and hence deleted the tweet.

She also took to hurling abuses at those who disagreed with her calling them as ‘mayiru’ (cuss word in Tamil meaning hair) and ‘mayiru pudingi’ (a derogatory cuss word that means ‘hair plucker’).

This is not the first time the alleged activist has grabbed limelight.

Earlier in February 2022, she posted in her Facebook page that religious conversion of Hindus in Tamil Nadu is essential for arresting the growth of BJP in the state.

In her post, Shalin Maria Lawrence said “There are two ways to arrest the growth of BJP in Tamil Nadu. One is religious conversion. The other is to steadfastly take the thoughts of Iyothithasar and Ambedkar.”

She also added that the ‘BJP will use the atheism as a weapon’ to its advantage.

Shalin further added that bringing about changes in the culture and restoring (read distorting) history is the need of the hour to counter communal politics.

After several netizens called out the problematic post, she edited the post removing the suggestion about ‘religious conversion’ and later deleted the post itself.

Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Corridor To Be Completed By December 2024

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the Chennai Port to Maduravoyal corridor in Tamil Nadu has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹5800 crore.

The Minister said the proposed elevated stretch of 20.5 km will be developed in 4 sections and will start inside the Chennai Port and end after the Maduravoyal interchange.

Minister Gadkari also said the project will be completed by December 2024 & it will serve as a dedicated freight corridor for Chennai bound port traffic & increase the handling capacity of Chennai Port by 48% and subsequently reduce the waiting time at the port by 6 hours.

The project was officially launched in 2008 by the then Tamil Nadu government under Chief Minister Karunanidhi.

However, the project became a victim of political vendetta with the AIADMK government coming to power in 2011.

The project saw several delays and cost escalations with unfinished pillars obstructing vehicle traffic.

This Is The Condition Of The Temple Having Inscription About Aditha Karikalan’s Murder

While a section of the Tamil people have been going gaga over the latest Ponniyin Selvan film, the Udayarkudi temple, which contains actual inscriptions on Aditya Karikalan’s murder, is in terrible shape.

Anantheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Udaiyargudi, a part of Kattumannarkoil Town in Kattumannarkoil Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. This temple was constructed by Parantaka Chola I. As Lord Shiva was worshipped by Ananthan, one of the Eight Nagas (snakes), this temple was named Anantheeswarar Temple.

The temple houses the inscriptions detailing punishments given to the conspirators involved in the mysterious assassination of Aditya Karikala Chola at Kadambur palace. This inscription dated to Rajaraja Chola I regime mentions the name of the murderers of Aditya Karikala Chola and the punishment given. The punishment was applicable not only to the persons involved but also to his close relatives.

Also, it is believed that marriage of Rajaraja’s grandmother Chembian Madevi’s marriage was held in this temple.

The temple is currently under the control of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department.

A video taken of the temple recently shows the dismal condition of the temple having such a rich heritage.

The pathetic state of preservation of the temple inscriptions was shared by Jayakumar Bharadwaj (through @krithikasivasw), founder of “Prastara,” an NGO that works for the conservation and preservation of Indian heritage, and one of the main resource persons for the Ponniyin Selvan film.

In the video that went viral in social media, it can be seen that the addition of brick and cement has entirely ruined the inscriptions under Dakshinamurthy and Durga and has already destroyed half of the other priceless inscriptions.

Denouncing HR&CE’s negligence in conserving the inscriptions at Anantheeswarar temple, which provide us with the wonderful history of Tamils, netizens and devotees sought the creation of an expert panel to renovate the damaged inscriptions.

Rajaraja Chozhan Being “Appropriated” As Hindu: Film Director Vetrimaaran Complains, Netizens Hit Back

In an event organised by the VCK party to celebrate the 60th birthday of its leader Thirumavalavan, Tamil film director Vetrimaaran stated that Rajaraja Chozan is being “appropriated as a Hindu”.

This director’s comment comes in light of the director Maniratnam’s latest film “Ponniyin Selvan – Part 1” which is based on the novel of the same name written by literary stalwart ‘Kalki’ Krishnamurthy. The film is about the golden age of Chozhas and the rise of Arulmozhivarman as Rajaraja Chozhan.

Director Vetrimaaran said during the event , “My friend has done a meticulous study on how the literature and cinema were in their hands (Brahmins), and how the Dravidian movement took over cinema from them.”

He also stated, “I believe Tamil Nadu is still a secular state, mature enough to resist the intrusion of many ‘external forces’ as a result of the Dravidian movement seizing control of Tamil cinema.”

He went on to say that cinema is an art form that can easily reach a large number of people, and that the politicisation of cinema is very important, which was lacking in the intervening period when it was in their hands (Brahmins) and was successfully accomplished when the Dravidian movement took over cinema.

He continued, “Today, we must properly handle this art. Failure to deal with this can lead to the loss of many of our identities very quickly. They (Brahmins) are constantly taking our identity, like saffronizing Valluvar and making Rajaraja Chola a Hindu king, and the list goes on.”

He further said, “Appropriation of identity happens in cinema too. We must preserve our identity.”

While praising the DMK and its allies’ political unity in opposing the RSS rally scheduled for October 2nd, he stated, “We must be politically clear if we are to fight for our identity.  The biggest example of this is the action taken against the event (RSS rally) that was supposed to happen on Gandhi Jayanthi. We should all work together like this.”

Many on social media have been lashing out Vetrimaaran stating that if Chozha was not a Hindu why did he build temples and nor Mosques or Churches.

Many other ladies can also be seen cornering the conductor asking him to give the ticket.

Following the belittling speech of DMK Minister K. Ponmudi in which he reminded women about travelling free in bus, a video of an elderly woman refusing to travel free in a bus went viral on social media.

In the video, the old lady can be seen arguing with the conductor insisting him to give her a ticket.

This video was even shared by BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai saying “A grandmother lands a tight slap to the entitled likes of Shri.Ponmudi, Min in the current @arivalayam govt!”

According to a report by ABP Nadu, the Tamil Nadu police had registered a case at the Madhukarai police station against 4 persons including the old lady named Tulasiammal.

https://twitter.com/abpnadu/status/1576084799248531456

Report by Puthiya Thalaimurai states that the case has been slapped for allegedly trying to defame the DMK government.

A report by DMK family-owned Sun News reported in a justifying tone stating that the old lady belonged AIADMK.

The report by Sun News stated that 3 members of the AIADMK (Prithviraj, Vijayanand and Madhavan) who paid the old lady have also been booked.

After the issue gained traction reports have emerged of the District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan denying that the old lady has been booked. News 7 Tamil in a report quoted the SP saying that news of a case being booked against the old lady was false.

Sivaji Ganesan: The Nationalist Antidote In Dravidian Lala Land

‘Chevalier’ ‘Sivaji’ Ganesan was one of a kind. He got the title of ‘Sivaji’ after he essayed the role of Chathrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great Maratha Indian ruler during a stage performance. For a person, who left his home to become a theatre artist, the cinematic journey was really long and illustrious. He was a man, who overcame many obstacles in his way. He would go on to achieve stupendous success in Tamil cinema. He would go on to influence Tamil politics, too.

Early Days

Sivaji Ganesan was born as V. Chinniah Mandrayar Ganeshamurthy in Soorakottai in Orathanadu in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. Although he began his career as a theatre artist, it was Tamil cinema, which made him a household name.

While he essayed many roles, it was his strong theatre background which made his cinema performances very special. His landmark movies were ‘Parasakthi’ in 1952, ‘Andha Naal’ in 1954, ‘Uthama Puthiran’ in 1958, ‘Veerapandiya Kattabomman’ in 1959, ‘Thiruvilayadal’ in 1965, ‘Thillana Mohanambal’ in 1968, ‘Deiva Magan’ in 1969 etcetera.

He often donned female roles in his theatre years. Strangely that very experience made his walking style, very special. Generations of audiences were to be enthralled by his walking style. He was a versatile actor, who essayed a variety of roles. He made his acting debut in the movie, Parasakthi, in 1952. The story is really awe inspiring in the manner that it portrays the interaction between the history of India during the world war period and its impact on the lives of common people. Sivaji became the vehicle for DMK leader Karunanidhi’s propaganda in Parasakthi.

The Actor Who Was Elemental In Instilling Nationalism Among The Tamil Masses

Sivaji’s movies extolled the virtues of honesty and bravery. For an ordinary Tamil, it is Sivaji’s majestic look whihc appears when one hears the name ‘Veerapandiya Kattaboman’.

He also brought to life Raja Raja Cholan and ‘Kappalottiya Thamizhan’ V.O. Chidambaram Pillai with effortless ease.

The memorable dialogues between the sculptor character and the character of Raja Raja Chola portrayed by Sivaji Ganesan is an excellent portrayal of the greatness of the King Raja Raja Chola, the king who worked for the welfare of his people. The movie immortalises the great cultural and historical significance of the Chola reign.

Sivaji Ganesan essayed the main role in the movie, Bharatha Vilas, which laid emphasis on national integration and brotherhood. The song ‘Indhiya Naadu’ (from ‘Bharatha Vilas) had lyrics, which laid stress on Bharatiya nationalism and fraternal ties.

Sivaji Was Born To Don The Role Of Kings

Sivaji Ganesan’s complete true to life portrayal of larger than life characters like in ‘Karnan’ and Veerapandiya Kattaboman’ are very memorable. Thus, Sivaji was able to play both mythological characters like Lord Shiva and Karna as well as historical characters like Veerapandiya Kottabomman, very well. He made his characters come alive. Ganesan had the ability to make people smile, cry, feel anger and was thus able to create, a variety of many other types of emotions, as well.

The Hindu Antidote To An Atheist Dravidian Propaganda

He essayed the main role in many religious movies. In Thiruvilayadal, Ganesan acts with great power and strength. The character of Lord Shiva has been portrayed with great elegance by Ganesan. He has also acted in other landmark flms like ‘Kandhan Karunai’. His character as ‘Veera Bahu’ in the movie is quite amazing.

His portrayal of Karnan still brings out tears whenever one hears the ‘Ullathil Nalla Ullam’ song.

The Epitome Of Acting

He was addressed as ’Nadigar Thilagam’, which means ‘The epitome of acting’. He won the great French Honour, Chevalier Award in 1995. He won the highest honour in Indian Cinema, when he was decorated with the Dada Saheb Phalke award in 1996. What a versatile actor, Sivaji was. He could get into the skin of any character – right from Lord Shiva in Thiruvilayadal to a factory worker and rich man in Pasamalar. The most important aspect of the performance of Sivaji Ganesan, the actor is his consistency in acting performance! Whether it was ‘Parasakthi’ or ‘Veerapandiya Kattabomman’ or ‘Raja Raja Cholan’ or ‘Thiruvilayadal’ or ‘Pasamalar’ or ‘Deiva Magan’, his performances were always consistent. He always amazed his audience with his repertoire. Sivaji Ganesan remains an unparallaled actor in Indian and world cinema.

An Unapolgetic Nationalist

He stayed away from joining either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu and was a true nationalist. He joined the Congress (back when it retained nationalist character) and later split to form a short-lived political party called Thamizhaga Munnetra Munnani.

Ganesan eventually regretted his decision to float his own party and merged the party with Janata Dal.

Thus, Thiru. Sivaji Ganesan portrayed patriotic and spiritual characters with perfection and passion. He was a staunch Indian nationalist, Tamilian and Hindu. He believed in one all-encompassing Bharat.
