Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay appears to be bringing his film-industry inner circle into government, with producers and close associates from his cinema career landing key official positions and drawing salaries or benefits from the public exchequer.
The appointments have drawn attention because the individuals involved are not merely from the broader film industry. Several have had direct professional associations with Joseph Vijay, including producing his films, managing his career or working closely with his production ecosystem.
Jana Nayagan Producer Gets Delhi Posting
K. Venkata Narayana, head of KVN Productions and producer of Joseph Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, was appointed as the Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu Government in New Delhi.
The post is an important liaison position involving the state government’s engagement with the Union Government and other institutions in the national capital.
What drew attention was not merely the appointment itself but the identity of the appointee.
What made the appointment particularly striking is the identity of the appointee. Venkat Narayana is not a career civil servant or diplomat. He is the producer of Jana Nayagan, Joseph Vijay’s much-publicised final film before entering electoral politics.
His appointment therefore raised questions over why a recent commercial associate of the Chief Minister should be given a taxpayer-funded government position involving access to the Union Government and the machinery of the State.
Archana Kalpathi Gets HR&CE Committee Role
Archana Kalpathi, CEO of AGS Entertainment, is another prominent name from Joseph Vijay’s film circle to receive a government-linked appointment.
Kalpathi was appointed to the newly reconstituted seven-member committee associated with the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
The committee has a significant role in the selection and appointment of non-hereditary trustees for temples under the HR&CE framework.
Her professional association with Joseph Vijay is direct. AGS Entertainment produced Bigil and The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), two major Vijay films.
That makes the appointment another instance of someone from Vijay’s professional film network being brought into a government institution – a position that carries public responsibility and is ultimately backed by the authority and resources of the State.
Vijay’s Long-Time Manager Becomes His Private Secretary
Perhaps the most direct example is Jagadish Palanisamy, a long-time manager and close professional associate of Joseph Vijay, who was appointed as the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary. While the appointment is said to have been finalised in May 2026, it was reported only in June 2026.
Palanisamy has been associated with Vijay’s film career for years and was involved in the production of Vijay-starrers through The Route.
His production credits include Master (2021), starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Leo (2023), another Vijay-Lokesh Kanagaraj collaboration.
His move from managing Vijay’s film career to serving inside Vijay’s Chief Minister’s Office is difficult to ignore. A person who spent years working closely with Vijay in cinema is now occupying a position within the government headed by him, with the post supported by the public exchequer.
From Cinema Circle To Government Circle
Joseph Vijay’s film producers and close associates are no longer just part of his cinema circle; they are increasingly finding a place in his government.
A producer of Vijay’s final film has been appointed Tamil Nadu’s Special Representative in New Delhi. Another producer associated with Vijay’s blockbusters has been made part of a key HR&CE committee. His long-time manager and film-production associate has been appointed as his Private Secretary.
The pattern is hard to miss: those who produced Vijay’s films are now holding positions in his government.
Film production is a capital-intensive business requiring financing, permissions, clearances and extensive interaction with government institutions. When people from a Chief Minister’s own film-business circle are simultaneously given government positions, their proximity to the State can inevitably invite scrutiny over whether private commercial interests could benefit from privileged access.
The issue is therefore not simply who Joseph Vijay chooses to work with. It is why people from his immediate professional circle are being given taxpayer-funded positions in the government he now controls.
For a political leader who entered public life promising a new alternative, the apparent movement of his cinema network into government raises an uncomfortable question: Has Joseph Vijay merely changed the stage from the film industry to government, while keeping much of the same cast?
