Arson Attack At Mylapore Kapaleeswarar Temple In Chennai

In a shocking incident, a fire was intentionally set at the entrance of the renowned Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, Chennai. The incident, involving the pouring of petrol and subsequent ignition, has prompted a thorough investigation by the local police to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators responsible for the act.

The Kapaleeswarar Temple holds immense significance, drawing thousands of devotees daily. The disturbing event unfolded around 1 o’clock last night when an unidentified individual was observed lingering near the East Mada Street gate of the temple.

Utilizing CCTV footage, authorities are working to trace the suspect who, in a deliberate act, poured petrol from a can onto the ground and ignited it. The arsonist continued to pour petrol gradually, fueling the flames. Promptly informed by locals, the Mylapore police were quick to respond to the incident.

However, the suspect managed to flee the scene before the arrival of law enforcement. A case has been officially registered, and investigators are actively examining the related video footage to unravel the circumstances surrounding the arson attack at the Kapaleeswarar Temple entrance.

Police said that they were unsure if the suspect was under the influence of alcohol, ganja or was mentally unstable.

In 2021, a Muslim man tried to set fire to a temple chariot in the village of V. Kalathur near Veppanthattai in Perambalur district. Alert villagers thrashed him and prevented further damage.

In the same year, the temple idol of the Muniyappan temple was set on fire by unidentified persons in Pennagaram.
