Vizhuppuram: Child Brutally Murdered, Step-Mother Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

A woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Vizhuppuram Mahila Court for brutally murdering a girl child.

Shamiluddin, a 30-year-old individual, comes from Chitherikkarai Selva town located in the Vizhuppuram district. He has a three-year-old child, whose mother sadly passed away during childbirth. Since then, Shamiluddin has been taking care of the child with the assistance of his mother, Shakila. In 2019, Shamiluddin made the decision to enter into a second marriage. With the approval of his family, he married a 22-year-old woman named Apsana.

As a consequence, Shamiluddin and Apsana have chosen to reside separately, leaving their three-year-old child in the care of Shamiluddin’s mother, Shakeela. However, a disagreement arose between Shamiluddin and Shakeela regarding the responsibility of looking after the child. Consequently, Shamiluddin decided to take the child with him and entrusted the care of their child to his second wife, Apsana.

The child faced frequent health issues, leading doctors to recommend daily insulin injections for the child. Unfortunately, Apsana, unaware of this medical requirement, reportedly mistreated the child. Tragically, the child passed away while Shamiluddin was away in the countryside in 2021, leaving the family in a devastating situation.

Upon his return to the village, Shamiluddin confronted Apsana regarding the death of their child. Apsana provided an inconsistent explanation, raising suspicions in Shamiluddin’s mind. In response, Shamiluddin lodged a formal complaint with the Villupuram Town Police. As a result, Apsana was apprehended by the police, who subsequently carried out a covert investigation into the matter.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, Shamiluddin confronted Apsana about the death of their 3-year-old child. Apsana, during the subsequent interrogation, admitted to the gruesome act of killing the child by forcefully striking them against a wall. Apsana’s confession led to her arrest and subsequent appearance in the Mahila Court of Vizhuppuram. The presiding judge, after carefully considering the case, sentenced her to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 for the heinous crime of murdering the child. This shocking incident, where a child was fatally assaulted without any regard for their innocence, has deeply disturbed the local community.
