SBI ATM looters caught red handed using CCTV footage, revealed to be from Haryana

In the last few days, there have been a lot of complaints of a group of looters targeting only SBI ATMs across Chennai in police stations. In particular, the police seized and checked CCTV footage of SBI and ATMs in Vadapalani, Kilpauk, Adyar, Velachery, Tharamani, Virugambakkam and Valasaravakkam following reports of looting.

Investigation revealed that 2 mysterious persons went into SBI ATMs and robbed money from the cash deposit machine. Further inquiry into this issue revealed that the two robbers, who only targeted SBI ATMs, were from Haryana. They had been staying for the past few weeks in lodges in areas like Vepery, Vadapalani and T Nagar. The police investigation revealed that there was a list of OKI machines in the ATMs and that they were the ones involved in a robbery at private times.

In light of this issue, Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal held consultations with Radhakrishnan, who is the Principal General Manager, State Bank of India, on Tuesday. Following this, the SBI management removed the facility of withdrawing money from the SBI deposit machine as per the advice of the commissioner. SBI Bank management has also directed the respective bank branch managers to directly inspect the cash and cash transactions at the ATMs.

Meanwhile, the group of policemen from Chennai who went to Haryana identified and arrested a person recorded in the CCTV footage. The men were brought to Delhi from Haryana and are being investigated by a private police team. Another person is being investigated by the private police as more people are involved in the incident. So far in Chennai, 16 SBI ATMs have been robbed.
