DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, who is contesting from Katpadi constituency for the tenth time, filed his candidature petition on March 15. The Election Commission has ordered that election-related expenses be borne from an account in his constituency. Accordingly, Duraimurugan opened an account at the Katpadi branch of Indian Bank, in which he has a balance of ₹30,74, 622 as election expenses.
Both Duraimurugan and his wife have assets worth a total of ₹29, 61, 91, 882. There are 8 criminal cases pending against Duraimurugan. Of these, 6 cases have been registered in connection with demonstration and road blockade.
Two cases are also pending by the Anti-Corruption Police for adding more property to the income. In 2016, the value of movable property owned by Duraimurugan was ₹57, 08, 425. At present, it has increased to ₹2,30,72, 415.
It has also been revealed that they are in the business of money-lending. Duraimurugan has lent ₹86,12, 782 and his wife Shanthakumari has lent ₹1,22,10,000 to other people.
