Mangaluru: Anti-Corruption Bureau raids Tahsildar’s office, official caught red-handed taking bribe

The sleuths of the Karnataka Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested an official at the Mangaluru Tahsildar’s Office on Tuesday January 5 for allegedly taking a bribe. The accused, identified as 43 year-old Rafeeq, was caught red-handed by the ACB officials. He has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Rafeeq was a second division assistant officer (clerk) in the Rectification of Records section at the Tahsildar’s Office. He had demanded ₹50,000 as bribe from a 72 year-old man to pass a favourable order in the Tahsildar court. The elderly citizen lodged a complaint against Rafeeq and the ACB officials laid a trap to arrest the accused. The accused was caught red-handed by the ACB officials, while accepting ₹40,000 as bribe from the complainant.
