An Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker was allegedly assaulted by the wife of a COVID-19 infected person.
On December 21, Rajeevi BS had gone to the house of a coronavirus-infected individual in Kutrupdy village, Kadaba Taluk in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district. She was collecting the details of the people with whom the infected individual had come into contact, as part of her job following up on the contact-tracing of infected people. While doing so, the ASHA worker noticed several relatives visiting the house of the infected person. Shocked, she advised the infected person’s family members not to allow visitors and to maintain social distancing guidelines.
Enraged over this advice, the infected person’s wife assaulted Rajeevi with a broom.
Dakshina Kannada District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairy said that a case had been registered against the assailant in the jurisdictional police station.
