A young child has died in Tiruchirappalli district, allegedly due to the absence of medical staff at a government health facility, triggering concern among local residents over access to basic healthcare.
The incident occurred near Thuraiyur, at the Kannanoor Government Primary Health Centre. According to reports, a four-and-a-half-year-old boy was brought to the facility for treatment, but no doctor was on duty at the time. The delay in receiving medical attention is believed to have resulted in the child’s death.
Residents of Kannanoor and surrounding areas stated that the Primary Health Centre serves nearly 18 villages yet often functions without adequate staffing. They alleged that both doctors and nurses are frequently unavailable, especially during emergencies, forcing patients to travel long distances for treatment.
Locals have raised concerns over recurring difficulties in accessing timely medical care and have called for immediate steps to ensure round-the-clock availability of qualified medical personnel at the centre.
