A warning has been issued against Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) policy propaganda secretary Arunraj by Tiruchengode Municipal Chairperson Nalini Suresh Babu, who alleged that he had been entering municipal wards and intimidating civic officials and sanitation workers.
Speaking at a municipal council meeting, the chairperson stated that if Arunraj continued such activities, a police complaint would be filed against him.
She said that elected ward councillors were already carrying out public works and addressing people’s grievances and questioned the need for a political functionary to independently enter wards and interact with officials.
Nalini alleged that Arunraj had been visiting multiple wards, questioning municipal authorities and speaking to officials despite holding no administrative authority. She further claimed that he had contacted her over the phone regarding certain civic issues and sought details, to which she directed him to obtain information formally through the municipality.
“Each ward has an elected representative who is doing the work for the people. He is entering wards with a political motive, gathering a few youngsters and raising questions like ‘this is not done, that is not done’,” she said during the meeting.
She also warned municipal officials and staff not to entertain or respond to such interventions and said that any instance of intimidation or interference should immediately be reported for legal action.
“Such a person, coming with political intent, has no right to question or speak to our officials or employees. If any harassment arises, we will address it through the police,” she said.
The chairperson added that Tiruchengode municipality had undertaken multiple civic improvements in recent years and had been upgraded in status and questioned the need for external political interference in council functions.
Echoing similar concerns, several councillors at the meeting alleged that Arunraj had been conducting inspections in wards and speaking in a threatening tone to civic staff.
Reiterating the council’s position, Nalini stated that regardless of any past position he may have held, Arunraj had no authority to question municipal officials, and that this view was being conveyed on behalf of the entire council.
