“When Did It Happen?”: DMK Min Ma Subramanian's Response To Brutal Murder Of Bihari Family Sparks Outrage

DMK Health Minister Ma Subramanian has come under sharp criticism following his response to questions from reporters about the brutal murder of a Bihari migrant worker, his wife and their child in Chennai’s Taramani area.

When journalists raised the issue during a press interaction in Chennai, the Minister’s first response was not to condemn the crime but to ask a counter-question.

“When did it happen?” Ma Subramanian asked.

Reporters then explained that the murders had been identified the previous day, adding that the bodies of the husband and the child had already been recovered.

“The wife’s body is in the Perungudi garbage yard. They say the wife’s body is there and the police are searching even today morning,” a reporter said.

The Minister responded by asking if the incident had taken place in Taramani and was told that it had. Journalists also pointed out that police officials had confirmed that an investigation was underway.

Minister Deflects to AIADMK Era

When asked about criticism by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who had said that Tamil Nadu had become a State where no one was safe, the DMK Minister shifted focus to the previous regime.

“You yourselves will clearly feel how there was good security when Edappadi Palaniswami was there. It was during the time when Edappadi Palaniswami was Chief Minister that a hundred such incidents were happening every single day,” Ma Subramanian said.

He went on to claim that merely listing crimes reported during the AIADMK’s tenure would require volumes of documentation.

“If I list only the incidents that appeared in your own media and newspapers during those four years, we would have to put out a hundred-page book for each day,” he said, before adding, “Leave that aside, what he is saying…”

The Minister asserted that law and order in the State was largely under control at present.

“Today, by and large, law and order is secure. As far as these issues that arise out of personal enmities are concerned, the police are taking major action and are punishing the culprits, as our RTG has said,” he claimed.

Nandanam Sexual Assault Incident Raised, Minister Says He “Did Not See It”

Reporters then flagged another serious incident, pointing out that even on the same morning, a 22-year-old woman had allegedly been subjected to sexual abuse at the Nandanam Government College campus.

Asked how the government viewed such incidents occurring in quick succession, the Minister responded: “To be honest, I did not see it; after seeing it (news), then asked me what happened.”
