In a horrifying case that has sent shockwaves through the Chennai city, a couple was arrested for distributing and selling Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) online. Disturbingly, they are also accused of forcing their own daughter into prostitution and filming explicit images of her, which were allegedly uploaded to the internet. The arrests were made by the Mylapore all-women police team.
The case came to light after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the tip, police tracked a suspect, a real estate agent from Raja Annamalai Puram, who was found in possession of several explicit videos and photographs of underage girls stored on his phone.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that the man had filmed his daughter, who was reportedly coerced into prostitution with the help of his wife. The man is alleged to have sold numerous explicit videos and photos online for financial gain.
Following this revelation, his wife was also arrested for her involvement in exploiting their daughter and distributing the obscene material. Both individuals have been charged under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and were remanded to judicial custody. The police is currently identifying other victims all of whom are mostly minors.
In a related development, police apprehended two more suspects from the Srinivasapuram and Tambaram areas for circulating CSAM, adding to the gravity of the case. The arrests have sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stricter enforcement against such heinous crimes.
