TANGEDCO Posts Video Of Electricity Worker Performing Dangerous Task Without Safety Measures, Faces Backlash From Netizens

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has faced severe criticism for recently posting a video where an electricity worker is seen walking on an electric wire over a pond to trim branches that could cause a short circuit during high winds. The video, which TANGEDCO shared, raised concerns about the employee’s safety, as it appeared the corporation was promoting risky behaviour without regard for the worker’s life. This has drawn sharp criticism for setting a dangerous and irresponsible example.

On 14 December 2024, TANGEDCO via its official X account stated, “The height of dedication to duty! The power outage that occurred in the Mukudal Express electrification station, which supplies river water to the electrification stations due to the floods that occurred in the Mukudal area of ​​Kallidaikurichi Kottam, Tirunelveli on 12.12.24 & 13.12.24, has been repaired.” The video quickly went viral, with many netizens criticizing their social media department.

Netizen Backlash

Netizens slammed the department, with one stating, “In this modern era, you are playing with someone’s life without using a crane…?You should not be proud of this, you should be ashamed…. What is the difference between this and risking someone’s life to clean a sewers..????”

Another netizen questioned the department, asking, “When will you address this?” and included a video in their post showing an electrician who tragically drowned in a flood while on duty.

Another netizen tagged the NHRC, urging them to take action against the officials, stating, “@India_NHRC please note and take necessary action against the officers who put the worker’s life in grave danger without any safety harness.”

Another netizen slammed the department stating, “There is no commitment. The Human Rights Commission should issue an order and fine the relevant authorities for making him do such dangerous work.”
