“1.79 Crore Fools Voted For TVK”, Former DMK Minister Gandhi Insults Voters For Choosing TVK

“1.79 Crore Fools Voted For TVK”, Says Former DMK Minister Gandhi

Former DMK Minister R. Gandhi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, claiming that 34% of voters in Tamil Nadu had “acted foolishly” by voting the party to power, as reported in Minnambalam.

Speaking to reporters in Kanchipuram on 5 September 2026, Gandhi also criticised the State government over its functioning, alleged that it was focused on social media reels, and questioned the recent raids linked to former DMK Minister KN Nehru.

“Now, what is the situation in Tamil Nadu? In the government that is in power now, whatever you take, it is only reels. That is what is running,” Gandhi said.

He also referred to the controversy involving JK Tyre and alleged that ministers were giving responses about a company that, according to him, did not exist in Ranipet.

“There is no such company as JK Tyre in Ranipet. But ministers are responding about such a non-existent company,” he said.

Attack On TVK Voters

Gandhi then made a controversial remark targeting those who voted for TVK.

“There are 1 crore 79 lakh fools in Tamil Nadu. This government has been formed because 34% fools voted for it,” he said.

Gandhi also criticised the Enforcement Directorate raids at the residences of former Minister K.N. Nehru and his relatives, suggesting that the action could have been intended to intimidate the DMK leader.

“Every day you are seeing what is happening in the Assembly. Is that an Assembly? K.N. Nehru opposes for some time and keeps asking questions. Perhaps they thought they could threaten K.N. Nehru, and that is why these raids may have taken place,” he said.

‘Our Thalapathy, Not Reels Thalapathy’

Gandhi also invoked former Chief Minister MK Stalin while attacking the TVK government.

“Our Thalapathy… I am talking about Thalapathy Stalin, not Reels Thalapathy,” he said.

He claimed that the previous DMK government had handled the COVID-19 pandemic effectively and accused the present administration of merely renaming existing schemes and initiatives.

“Our DMK government handled the COVID period well. This government is only changing names for everything. That is all. It has not fulfilled any of its promises,” Gandhi said.
