
A 26-year-old man was killed after a car belonging to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Minister Jagadeshwari K. allegedly hit the two-wheeler he was riding at Kattankulathur near Chennai in the early hours of Monday, 7 September 2026.
The deceased has been identified as Iraiyanbu and was riding a Honda Duo.
The accident took place at the Kattankulathur junction when the youth was riding his motorcycle. The impact reportedly killed him on the spot.
Minister Jagadeshwari, who holds the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment portfolio and is the MLA from Rajapalayam, was travelling to Chennai to attend the Assembly session.
According to reports, the Minister was travelling in a government vehicle. Her personal car was following behind, along with an escort vehicle. It was the Minister’s personal Maruti Ertiga that allegedly collided with the two-wheeler.
The car involved in the accident is registered in Minister Jagadeshwari’s name, according to police sources.
Following the accident, personnel from the Maraimalai Nagar Traffic Investigation Wing seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
Driver Arrested
Police arrested Chinna Agni of Madurai, who was driving the Minister’s car at the time of the accident.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to rash and negligent driving on a public road and causing death by negligence.
Police are questioning the driver as part of the investigation.
The circumstances leading to the collision, including how the Minister’s personal vehicle struck the two-wheeler while following the government vehicle, are being investigated.
