TVK Model Party Functionary, Associate Arrested After DRI Seizes Over 100 Kg Of Methamphetamine In Nagapattinam

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has issued a summons to Rajkumar, an alleged associate of arrested Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) executive committee member and advocate Boopalan, in connection with the seizure of 135 kg of methamphetamine worth approximately ₹135 crore in Nagapattinam district, as reported in OneIndia Tamil.

Rajkumar, who reportedly resides on Yadavar Street in Prathaparama Puram, Nagapattinam district, is suspected of having links to the alleged international drug-smuggling operation. According to reports, he is currently absconding.

The latest development comes as DRI officials continue investigating the alleged network behind the seizure and the suspected smuggling of methamphetamine from Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka.

DRI Probes Alleged Sri Lanka Smuggling Route

The investigation began after DRI officials in the Tiruchirappalli region reportedly received intelligence from Ramanathapuram district about the alleged smuggling of methamphetamine from Nagapattinam to Sri Lanka.

Acting on the information, officials raided the residence of Sugan, a financier from Prathaparama Puram near Velankanni who reportedly operated a rented lodge. During the search, they allegedly seized 27 packets of methamphetamine weighing approximately 5 kg each, taking the total seizure to 135 kg. The international market value was estimated at ₹135 crore.

Following the seizure and subsequent questioning, Bupalan, Sugan, Sathish and Manikandan were arrested in connection with the case.

Investigators reportedly suspect links to an international drug-trafficking network and are examining whether others were involved in the alleged operation. The reported links and role of Rajkumar remain subject to investigation, and his arrest has not been confirmed.

The DRI is continuing its probe to identify other suspected participants and establish the full extent of the alleged smuggling network.
