TVK Model Party Functionary, Associate Arrested After DRI Seizes Over 100 Kg Of Methamphetamine In Nagapattinam

A Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary and his associate were arrested in Nagapattinam on Friday, 16 October 2026, after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 100 kg of methamphetamine from a residence in the district. The contraband was reportedly valued at hundreds of crores of rupees, as reported in Times of India.

N Boopalan, 42, an advocate from Sinthamani who was a member of the TVK district executive committee in Nagapattinam, was arrested in connection with the case. The party has since expelled him.

According to reports, the DRI had received information that Boopalan was in possession of a large quantity of banned narcotic substances. Acting on the intelligence, a DRI team from Tiruchirappalli, assisted by Nagapattinam district police, searched his residence on Friday.

Simultaneously, officials searched the residences of Boopalan’s associates in Prathaparamapuram near Kilvelur. Those searched included J Suganathan, 25, his brother J Parthiban, 29, and D Sathish, 30.

During the searches, officials recovered more than 100 kg of methamphetamine from Suganathan’s residence. He reportedly admitted to possessing the drugs in collaboration with Boopalan.

The DRI subsequently arrested Boopalan and Suganathan and seized the contraband. Parthiban and Sathish were also among those whose residences were searched.

Sources reportedly indicated that Boopalan was linked to an international network involved in smuggling high-value narcotics between India and other countries.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
