A 67-year-old woman, who lives in Vadodara, Gujarat, is pursuing her doctorate after 50 years of wait. Usha Lodhaya, 67, from Vadodara, Gujarat, has been harbouring a 50-year-old dream of pursuing a doctorate. Now, she is pursuing her aspiration and is proving that age is no bar when you have a dream. She had dropped out of BSc to get married, and is now chasing her dream.
The focus of her thesis was tenets of peace preached by the religion, according to a report in the Times of India. “I had made up my mind to become a doctor when I was in Class 7. I got engaged when I was just 16. However, I continued my studies and pursued BSc from Jhunjhunwala College in Mumbai. But I had quit in the first year itself after I got married when I turned 20,” the report quoted Usha as saying.
She went on to say, “I forgot to study because I took care of the family after marriage. Wanting to resume my education, I graduated from the Shatrunjay Academy in Jalgaon, Maharashtra nine years ago.”
“Then, I got a master’s degree in Jainism. Four years ago, under the guidance of a Mumbai college professor, I enrolled in a research course at the Shatrunjay Academy. I started research on ‘Principles of Peace Taught by Religion’. It was difficult to get guidelines for that online. Meanwhile, my husband died. I have completed my studies in the midst of suffering and am currently pursuing a PhD. I want to teach students after my PhD. ”
