Twenty-six new government city buses have been launched for public service in Salem, with the buses painted in yellow and red – the colours of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) flag instead of the usual blue, as reported in Hindu Tamil.
The new buses were launched on Thursday by Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Parthiban in Salem under the Salem Division of the state transport corporation. The buses have been introduced on new routes.
The colour scheme of the buses has drawn attention as the newly launched vehicles have been painted in yellow and red, matching the colours used in the TVK flag.
Government buses in Tamil Nadu have previously undergone colour changes under different governments. During the earlier AIADMK regime, government buses were operated in green, while buses were painted yellow during the subsequent DMK regime.
Bus timings have also been changed over the years following changes in government. However, the colour of city buses had remained largely unchanged in recent years, with most city buses continuing to operate in blue.
Against this backdrop, the newly launched buses under the newly elected TVK government have been introduced with a different colour scheme.
The development has also drawn attention because the buses were launched in Salem, the home district of Transport Minister Parthiban, with the government city buses painted in yellow and red to match the colours of the ruling party’s flag.
Some passengers commented on the colour change, saying, “The change in the colour of the buses shows that they are in no way behind the previous rulers.”
