Valparai police have booked 10 people, including members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), for allegedly trespassing into the Valparai government hospital, threatening doctors and obstructing them from discharging their duties following the admission of a five-year-old boy injured in a leopard attack, as reported in The New Indian Express.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place around 5 pm on Thursday, 24 September 2026, after the child, who sustained serious injuries in a leopard attack at Upper Paralai Estate in Valparai, was brought to the government hospital for treatment.
The FIR states that around 10 people claiming to be TVK members entered the hospital premises without permission. They allegedly moved around different blocks of the hospital, including treatment areas, and recorded videos and photographs without authorisation.
According to the police, when the group was questioned about their presence, they allegedly behaved aggressively and threatened the doctors.
The complaint was lodged by the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Madhu Preetha. According to her complaint, the group created fear and mental distress among doctors who were on duty and obstructed them from carrying out their medical responsibilities.
The group allegedly claimed that they had come to the hospital on behalf of a TVK minister and that they could inspect the hospital at any time without requiring permission from the hospital authorities.
The complaint further alleged that the group threatened to beat up the doctors if they were prevented from returning to the hospital to conduct another “inspection”.
The incident was reportedly captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras and witnessed by other hospital staff and patients, according to the complaint.
India Today, meanwhile, reported that the group included the local TVK city secretary and several others, with its report describing the group as numbering nearly 20 people. According to the report, the group questioned medical staff about the treatment being provided to the five-year-old boy and allegedly created a ruckus inside the hospital while the child was receiving first aid and medical care.
Hospital authorities subsequently alerted the police, as the disruption allegedly affected their ability to provide medical care, India Today reported.
The incident occurred after the five-year-old boy was attacked by a leopard at Upper Paralai Estate and brought to the government hospital with serious injuries. The dispute involving the TVK members was reportedly centred on the treatment being provided to the child.
Based on the complaint, Valparai police registered a case against the individuals. India Today reported that the case was registered under provisions relating to protection of doctors, while The New Indian Express reported the allegations contained in the FIR, including trespassing, threats and obstruction of doctors in the discharge of their duties.
No arrests had been made in the case at the time of the reports, police said.
