The Joseph Vijay TVK government has moved two senior IPS officers, A Arun and N Kannan, to compulsory wait with immediate effect, as reported in DinaMani.
According to a Police Note issued by the Home (SC) Department on 24 September 2026, A. Arun, IPS, Additional Director General of Police and Director of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Oonamancherry, Vandalur, Chennai, has been brought under compulsory wait at the office of the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, Chennai.
Rajeev Kumar, IPS, Director General of Police, Training, Chennai, will hold full additional charge of the post of Director, Tamil Nadu Police Academy, until further orders.
N. Kannan, IPS, Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, has also been brought under compulsory wait at the office of the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, Chennai.
R.V. Ramya Bharati, IPS, Inspector General of Police, West Zone, Coimbatore, will hold full additional charge of the post of Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, until further orders.
The order was issued by K. Manivasan, Additional Chief Secretary to the Tamil Nadu government.

The development comes after Tamil Nadu Congress functionary Ranjan Kumar alleged on Thursday, 24 September 2026, that he had met Kannan and submitted a complaint on 22 November 2024, in connection with the Gem Veeramani POCSO case, but that no immediate action was taken on his complaint.
At the time, Kannan was serving as Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai South.
It may be noted that Arun was serving as the Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai, at the time.
