‘Disaster Model’: TN BJP President K Annamalai Slams DMK Govt Over Repeated Instances Of Rotten Eggs In Midday Meal Scheme, Christens Geetha Jeevan As “Rotten Eggs Minister”

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai has criticized the ruling DMK government, labeling it a ‘Disaster Model’ for its failure to provide quality eggs to students in government schools under the ‘Midday Meal’ program. This criticism comes in the wake of repeated complaints from parents, who reported that schools were serving rotten eggs, leading to public outrage as videos of the incident went viral and sparked commotion.

In response, Annamalai condemned the DMK and its ministers, urging them not to ignore the issue and to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future. He shared his concerns via his official X account, stating, “Once again, the Disaster model DMK government has served rotten eggs to school children in the midday meal. In a school in the Melpuram area of Kanyakumari district, rotten eggs have been served to students. This happens at least once a month in schools in Tamil Nadu. Where does the money provided by the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. @narendramodi, for the nutrition of children, go? We have seen many reports that eggs that should be provided in schools are being sold in shops with government stamps, but children are being given substandard eggs. The rotten egg minister responsible for all this does not seem to have taken any action yet.”

“Rotten Egg Minister Mrs. Geetha Jeevan should realize that, they are playing with the lives of children by giving them substandard eggs for food. Parents will teach the DMK government a lesson if they fail to take steps to prevent such incidents from happening again.” He added

The incident took place at the Government Primary School in Kuzhithurai, near Melpuram, in Kanyakumari district, where parents complained that the eggs provided under the Chief Minister’s Morning Breakfast Scheme had not been properly monitored or checked for quality by the workers. The eggs were reportedly of substandard quality, with some even emitting foul smells and appearing rotten.

In a similar situation, the eggs stored in the Nutritious Kitchen area also turned rotten, further fueling anger and concern among parents. This has sparked a stir, with parents demanding the removal of the government officials responsible for overseeing such negligent practices.

Last week, in Taludali village near Tindivanam in the Viluppuram district, approximately 490 rotten eggs meant for distribution to students under the midday meal scheme  were buried following an inspection by the Block Development Officer (BDO).

The issue of spoiled eggs being prepared for school students came to light when parents discovered that rotten, foul-smelling eggs were being used in the school meals. Concerned for their children’s health, the parents confronted the cooking staff at the government higher secondary and primary schools in Taludali village, leading to a heated argument.

Upon learning about the incident, Block Development Officer (BDO) Silambu Selvan intervened and visited the schools to inspect the situation. During his inspection, he confirmed that a large portion of the eggs stored in the kitchen was unfit for consumption. Addressing the parents’ concerns, the BDO assured them that immediate action would be taken to resolve the issue. He further pledged that such lapses would not occur in the future, leading to a compromise.

To ensure the safety of the students, Silambu Selvan ordered the immediate disposal of the spoiled eggs. Using a JCB, the eggs were buried in a pit within the school premises. Additionally, the 490 eggs designated for distribution were returned to the BDO office for further action. This incident has sparked widespread concern, emphasizing the urgent need for stricter oversight and quality control in midday meal programs to ensure the health and safety of students.
