TN BJP Leader SG Suryah Busts TN’s Alleged Fact-Checker YouTurn’s Claims On Annadurai

You Turn,a self-proclaimed Tamil fact-checking entity, has been consistently spreading false information on social media since the beginning of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Their primary objective seems to be to buttress the ruling DMK government and uphold their ideology by any means necessary. This time, they’ve boldly claimed that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister CN Annadurai and former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh never attained their top constitutional positions without the mandate of the people i.e., elections.

This assertion arises amidst the backdrop of the DMK and its sympathizers repeatedly labeling Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar as privileged individuals who entered through the backdoor via the Rajya Sabha, allegedly due to their caste. Despite advocating for a casteless society, DMK sympathizers consistently bring up caste-related issues, turning them into topics of discussion.

SG Suryah, the Tamil Nadu BJP state secretary, wasted no time refuting the claim. He provided data to counter the argument, citing examples of CN Annadurai and Manmohan Singh, who also ascended to their positions without the direct mandate of the people. Suryah clarified his stance on his official X account, stating,#DMK Founder Annadurai became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu through the MLC route. #DMK’s #2G chella Mr.Manmohan Singh served as Prime Minister of India through the Rajya Sabha route. DMK handles whining over Ministers through Rajya Sabha is a joke & Anti-Constitutional.”

Suryah’s post, may not have even affected the real DMK IT wing because it was a straight fact, however, seemed to have greatly hurtYou Turn“. They were unable to accept the factual information and instead resorted to ridiculing the notion that Annadurai and Singh attained their positions without elections, which garnered laughter from observers.

YouTurn responding to SG Suryah stated,You guys are an expert at speaking half-truths and twisting the words of everyone, in addition to the long list of misinformation that you have spread. Former CM C.N.Annadurai (Anna) had contested in elections and received people’s mandate, either in favour of him or against him. But he did face the public. Anna contested: – In 1957, Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls in Kancheepuram and won. -In 1962 TN Assembly Polls in Kancheepuram and lost. -In 1967 in Lok Sabha Elections from Chennai South constituency and won. Even Former PM Manmohan Singh contested in 1999 from South Delhi constituency and lost. Now, please tell us the elections that Jaishankar and Nirmala Sitaraman contested in which they had to canvass and appeal to the public for votes. Why is it that only some get this privilege?”

SG Suryah, in his response, emphasized the undeniable truth and derided the Dravidian fake fact-checking team,Fact Checking is a Joke. My pointed tweets are 100% correct.

• Annadurai became CM through MLC route.

• Manmohan Singh became PM through the Rajya Sabha route. What is the lie in the above two points @youturn_in ?? Referendum can be added to every single thing. STOP THIS JOKE.”

CN Annadurai

The undeniable truth is that the third legislative assembly election in Madras state (now Tamil Nadu) occurred on 21 February 1962. The Indian National Congress party, led by K. Kamaraj, emerged victorious in this election. However, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s CN Annadurai faced defeat in Kancheepuram. In the subsequent fourth legislative assembly election of Madras State, which took place in February 1967, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) coalition, led by C.N. Annadurai, triumphed over the Indian National Congress. Annadurai resigned from the Rajya Sabha and was nominated as the Chief Minister of Madras State. On 2 March 1967, he asserted his claim to form a government and was sworn in by Governor Ujjal Singh on 6 March 1967 at Rajaji Hall. Furthermore, Annadurai was later elected to the Madras Legislative Council on 22 April 1967.

The assertion made by the fake fact-checking team is debunked by the absence of a constituency named Chennai South during that period, as Chennai was established after 1996, and given that the entire state was referred to as Madras, the designation ofSouth Madrasdid not exist during that period. Due to the lack of public display of members’ lists by the Tamil Nadu government, relying solely on Wikipedia and Land and people of Indian states and union territories S. C. Bhatt for establishing the facts of 1967 presents another challenge. Therefore, SG Suryah’s assertion holds.

Manmohan Singh

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had a lengthy tenure in the Rajya Sabha, spanning from 1991 to 2024, encompassing six terms. He represented Assam for the majority of his tenure, starting with his first term from 1 October 1991 to 14 June 1995 followed by subsequent terms until 14 June 2019. During this period, he was affiliated with the Indian National Congress party. Singh’s final term, from 20 August 2019 to 3 April 2024, saw him representing Rajasthan under the banner of the Indian National Congress.
