
A controversy has erupted over the alleged use of Greater Chennai Corporation contract sanitation workers to clean up after a lunch served during the inauguration of the TVK Maduravoyal MLA’s constituency office in Chennai. The workers were reportedly made to collect discarded banana leaves and clear garbage after the event, drawing criticism from several quarters.
The Maduravoyal Assembly constituency office, which had remained unopened for nearly two months, was formally inaugurated after renovation works were completed.
Maduravoyal MLA Rhevanth Charan, who was elected from the TVK, attended the inauguration. The event was presided over by TVK minister Bussy Anand. Several MLAs, including V.S. Babu, Balamurugan, Rhevanth Charan, along with TVK party functionaries and office-bearers, were present on the occasion.
A lunch was organised for party functionaries and those who attended the inauguration. According to allegations, after the meal, contract sanitation workers employed by the Greater Chennai Corporation’s 11th Zone were deployed to collect the discarded food waste and used banana leaves and clean the venue.
