Rift Between PTR & Udhayanidhi Stalin? Is This The Reason For The Rumored Tensions And Missed Ceremonies?

After being appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin visited Madurai. However, it was noted that DMK Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan welcomed him at the airport, honoured him with a shawl, and did not join Udhayanidhi in his car for the next leg of the journey. It came to light that another minister from Madurai, Moorthy doubled down and made all the arrangements for the visit.

What is even more surprising is that PTR is one among those who did not participate in the oath-taking ceremony of Udhayanidhi Stalin as Deputy CM. Although he claimed that he left from Madurai for Chennai to attend this function, PTR claimed that the absence was due to a flight delay. But this is also claimed to be an outcome of dissatisfaction.

PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan is considered one of the closest people to MK Stalin. However, ever since the DMK Files audio leaks happened, there seems to be some bad blood between the two. It is noteworthy that in the subsequent cabinet reshuffle, PTR was shifted from Finance Ministry to Information Technology. This proved that there was a resentment lingering. The PTR who featured in DMK’s top minister’s list was sidelined slowly and surely.

Even in the recent reshuffle, PTR’s name did not feature. In the oath-taking ceremony on 29 September 2024 at Raj Bhavan, several alliance leaders and DMK leaders were present. However, two DMK ministers alone did not participate in the event. They were PTR and Transport Minister Sivashankar. Sivashankar had already informed CM Stalin of his absence owing to not being in India then.

Rumours are flying about PTR not attending the function ranging from not giving the desired portfolio to some other resentment.

Some news reports state that owing to his mother’s ill health and her subsequent hospitalization, he had to travel to Madurai. Additionally, owing to a flight delay, he could not make it on time for the ceremony. Since his conspicuous absence again triggered the rumour mills, he arrived in Chennai the next day and is said to have met Udhayanidhi Stalin and congratulated him. Additionally, it is claimed that he regretted not being able to attend the ceremony.

Statement Made By PTR

In an undated interview, PTR is seen saying, “If you run the party for unfit, useless successors, then some talented party will enter the scene and wash you away.”

With all the recent avoidances, it is still not clear if PTR is being sidelined or if he is intentionally avoiding the first family due to resentment.
