Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar (20), an Indian student from Karnataka studying medicine in Ukraine was shot dead in the shelling that happened in the city of Kharkiv on Tuesday (March 1).
Naveen was a fourth year medical student studying at the Kharkiv National Medical University in the eastern city of Kharkiv in Ukraine.
The news of his death was confirmed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, India.
Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones.

According to reports, Naveen was shot dead around 10.30 AM Ukrainian time. He was standing in the queue at a grocery shop when the Russian army fired at people.
Kharkiv, which is located close to the Russian border, has been witnessing intense shelling over the past few days.
Government of India is now taking efforts to retrieve his body from the war-ravaged country.
In light of this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the father of the deceased student over phone and offered his condolences.
