A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Chennai has issued a summons to Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddique in connection with a 2018 case involving counterfeit Indian currency.

Siddique, who is currently stationed in Sri Lanka as the Counsellor (Visa) at the Pakistan High Commission, has been named as one of the key accused in the case. The NIA had earlier filed a chargesheet against him and two others, accusing them of orchestrating the distribution of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).

The charges against Siddique fall under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) read with 121A (conspiracy to wage war against the country) and 489B (use of counterfeit currency) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Authorities have labeled Siddique as an absconder, and an arrest warrant remains active against him. The NIA court has now ordered him to appear before it by 15 October 2025.
