The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at nine locations across Tamil Nadu, including six places in Chennai, as part of its investigation into a drug trafficking case linked to a seizure in the Andaman region in 2024.
The searches are also being conducted at locations in Madurai and Coimbatore, with NIA officials examining the premises of individuals suspected to have links with those arrested in the case.
The investigation relates to a drug seizure made in the Andaman region in 2024. Seven people have so far been arrested in connection with the case.
According to officials, the ongoing searches are focused on individuals who were allegedly in contact with the seven accused arrested in the case. The NIA is examining their possible links to a drug trafficking network operating from Myanmar.
Officials are also investigating whether those whose premises are being searched had any links with the drug trafficking syndicate allegedly operating from Myanmar and whether they had played any role in the network under investigation.
