NIA Arrests Two More Terror Suspects In Coimbatore Blast Case, 11 Arrested So Far

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday (28 December 2022) arrested two more persons involved in the Coimbatore Blast taking the number of arrested persons to 11.

The arrested terror suspects have been identified as Sheikh Hidayathullah and Sanofar Ali. Investigations have revealed that in Februrary 2022, the accused had met near Asanoor and Kadambur region located deep inside the Sathyamangalam forests where they entered into a criminal conspiracy and hatched a terror plot.

The meetings were led Umar Farook who was arrested earlier. Along with Mohammed Azharudin, Sheikh Hidayatullah and Sanofar Ali, Jamesha Mubeen who was killed in the blast had also participated in these meetings where they planned to conduct terror attacks.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai called out the laxity in the DMK Government’s approach to the case which had been trivializing the incident as a ‘gas cylinder blast’.

He pointed out that the NIA has categorically stated it to be a ISIS-linked suicide bombing incident.

An LPG cylinder burst inside a Maruti 800 car in Coimbatore at around 4.30 am on Sunday (23 October 2022), causing the vehicle to explode. The explosion was initially believed to be an accident but a thorough investigation into the incident, revealed that the cylinder explosion was a terrorist attack committed by Islamic terrorists during the Diwali festival.
